n recent decades nanotechnology has developed into a highly multidisciplinary topic, drawing from a number of fields such as physics, materials science, biomedicine, and different engineering disciplines. The success of nanoscience- and nanotechnology-related research and products is connected with the technological exploitation of size effects in structures and materials and is, therefore, related to its impact on the society of the future.

This most recent trend has been taken up here and represents the main focus of this book applied to carbon-based materials, including nanocrystalline diamond, aerogels, and carbon nanotubes. The book compiles and details cutting-edge research, and several applications are described within the field of energy, microelectronics, and biomedicine. Beyond that, a perspective is given including a diversity of industrial applications and market opportunities for C-based nanoscale materials and devices in the future.

Many of our daily-life problems can be written in the form of an optimization problem. Therefore, solution methods are needed to solve such problems. Due to the complexity of the problems, it is not always easy to find the exact solution. However, approximate solutions can be found.

The theory of the best approximation is applicable in a variety of problems arising in nonlinear functional analysis and optimization. This book highlights interesting aspects of nonlinear analysis and optimization together with many applications in the areas of physical and social sciences including engineering. It is immensely helpful for young graduates and researchers who are pursuing research in this field, as it provides abundant research resources for researchers and post-doctoral fellows. This will be a valuable addition to the library of anyone who works in the field of applied mathematics, economics and engineering.

Rainfall-Runoff Modelling In Gauged And Ungauged Catchments

Author(s)/Editor(s): Thorsten Wagener, Hoshin V Gupta, Howard S Wheater | Size: 14.8 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: Imperial College Press | Year: 2010 | pages: 332 | ISBN: 1860944663

This important monograph is based on the results of a study on the identification of conceptual lumped rainfall-runoff models for gauged and ungauged catchments. The task of model identification remains difficult despite decades of research. A detailed problem analysis and an extensive review form the basis for the development of a Matlab® modelling toolkit consisting of two components: a Rainfall-Runoff Modelling Toolbox (RRMT) and a Monte Carlo Analysis Toolbox (MCAT). These are subsequently applied to study the tasks of model identification and evaluation. A novel dynamic identifiability approach has been developed for the gauged catchment case. The theory underlying the application of rainfall-runoff models for predictions in ungauged catchments is studied, problems are highlighted and promising ways to move forward are investigated. Modelling frameworks for both gauged and ungauged cases are developed. This book presents the first extensive treatment of rainfall-runoff model identification in gauged and ungauged catchments.

From Leonardo da Vinci to Louis Kahn, the world's great designers and architects have used the observation and drawing of real objects to inform and inspire visionary constructions. This book prepares students of architecture and design to carry on a similar dialogue between their perceptions of the physical world and their understanding of the elements of design. It instills an understanding of the basic principles of drawing that are universal to all designdisciplines-mass, volume, form, contour, texture, shadow, and more-as it explores the knowledge, rational thought, and analysis that design professionals rely on to create successful drawings. This combination of technique, theory, and analysis equips the designer with a powerful set of tools, crucial to both the creative process and the successful career.

Mathematical and Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations: Applications for Engineering Sciences

Author(s)/Editor(s): Joël Chaskalovic | Size: 2.07 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: springer | Year: 2014 | pages: 358 | ISBN: 3319035622

this self-tutorial offers a concise yet thorough introduction into the mathematical analysis of approximation methods for partial differential equation. A particular emphasis is put on finite element methods. The unique approach first summarizes and outlines the finite-element mathematics in general and then in the second and major part, formulates problem examples that clearly demonstrate the techniques of functional analysis via numerous and diverse exercises. The solutions of the problems are given directly afterwards. Using this approach, the author motivates and encourages the reader to actively acquire the knowledge of finite- element methods instead of passively absorbing the material as in most standard textbooks. This English edition is based on the Finite Element Methods for Engineering Sciences by Joel Chaskalovic.

  Future of software
Posted by: LiviuM - 12-12-2016, 06:00 PM - Forum: Free Discussion - Replies (4)

Dear reader,

CSI is using windows telemetry services to harvest client data, software usage.
Trimble is using an external API (one of the best forgot its name) to do global customer fingerprint and usage data harvest.
Autodesk did it since long ago, recently switched the LT to rental only licensing model and requires monthly internet access for reactivation. The 2014 version just quits if the user doesn't agree with the "anonymous" usage report.

Most likely the trend started with gmail beta (2005) when sharing personal information like emails content in exchange for some services became cheap and cheaper each year.

Sadly the great almighty Cloud trend is pushing away stuff from our control into some benefactor hands. (office 365, microsoft servers in cloud, storage, compute)

I really wonder how soon we will start buying the expensive tracing system in our phones, to put that into our heads in exchange for some stupid wallpaper.

Regards,

There is a great deal of interest in extending nondestructive technologies beyond the location and identification of cracks and voids. Specifically there is growing interest in the application of nondestructive evaluation (NOEl to the measurement of physical and mechanical properties of materials. The measurement of materials properties is often referred to as materials characterization; thus nondestructive techniques applied to characterization become nondestructive characterization (NDCl. There are a number of meetings, proceedings and journals focused upon nondestructive technologies and the detection and identification of cracks and voids. However, the series of symposia, of which these proceedings represent the fourth, are the only meetings uniquely focused upon nondestructive characterization. Moreover, these symposia are especially concerned with stimulating communication between the materials, mechanical and manufacturing engineer and the NDE technology oriented engineer and scientist. These symposia recognize that it is the welding of these areas of expertise that is necessary for practical development and application of NDC technology to measurements of components for in service life time and sensor technology for intelligent processing of materials. These proceedings are from the fourth international symposia and are edited by c.o. Ruud, J. F. Bussiere and R.E. Green, Jr. . The dates, places, etc of the symposia held to date area as follows: Symposia on Nondestructive Methods for TITLE: Material Property Determination DATES: April 6-8, 1983 PLACE: Hershey, PA, USA CHAIRPERSONS: C.O. Ruud and R.E. Green, Jr.
