Comprehensive coverage of durability of concrete at both material and structural levels, with design related issues
• Links two active fields in materials science and structural engineering: the durability processes of concrete materials and design methods of concrete structures
• Facilitates communication between the two communities, helping to implement life-cycle concepts into future design methods of concrete structures
• Presents state-of-the-art information on the deterioration mechanism and performance evolution of structural concrete under environmental actions and the design methods for durability of concrete structures
• Provides efficient support and practical tools for life-cycle oriented structural design which has been widely recognized as a new generation of design philosophy for engineering structures
• The author has long experience working with the topic and the materials presented have been part of the author’s current teaching course of Durability and Assessment of Engineering Structures for graduate students at Tsinghua University
• The design methods and approaches for durability of concrete structures are developed from newly finished high level research projects and have been employed as recommended provisions in design code including Chinese Code and Eurocode 2

Strut and tie Models
This publication aims to explain strut-and-tie modelling (STM) which has become available for use under Eurocode 2. The text gives guidance on the developing STMs and designing STM members. It provides worked examples for the common applications of pile caps, deep beams and corbels.

Autodesk Inc., a world leader in 3D design software for entertainment, natural resources, manufacturing, engineering, construction, and civil infrastructure, has released update for Revit 2017.1. The newly released Autodesk Revit 2017 brings more stability and uptime with improvements to over 100 functions in the program. Revit is made for BIM and, in the 2017 release, features more efficient processes to connect architectural design, MEP and structural engineering.
Autodesk announced several key new and enhanced features for its flagship Revit software designed to increase software performance and help users better model and communicate design intent. Autodesk Revit 2017 software is the latest version of its software purpose-built for BIM offering an all-in-one solution for architectural, MEP and structural engineering, and construction professionals. Enhancements in Revit 2017 will help drive more efficient processes within an extended, multi-discipline Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflow.

- Improve 3D drafting in AutoCAD LT – For all of us that do 2D drafting and design, it’s hard to beat the latest release of AutoCAD LT. But when it comes to 3D features, however, it lacks. Now we know that you can pay a lot more to get 3D versatility in some of Autodesk’s more premium products but for a lot of small businesses that already find LT to be an expensive option, we would love to see more basic 3D options available.
- Bring back the Classic Workspace view – If you are a long time user of AutoCAD LT, then you’ll be bummed that the Classic Workspace view is no longer available in the 2016 perpetual version (those on the subscription plan still can switch to it). The new workspace interface is so dramatically different that if you’re upgrading from an older version then you’ll have to commit some time to learning it over again to become efficient with the software. While Autodesk cites their decision to remove the view as a “natural evolution towards a modern and more efficient interface”, we would like to see the option return for those that want it.
- Improve digital rights management and support – Autodesk has a really poor licensing management setup and nearly no support available if you get stuck activating your new. In the 2016 release, we found a number of customers complaining that they could not activate their new licenses using their existing account Autodesk ID’s when trying to install the software using “I already have an Autodesk account” installation option. The only workaround was to remove any trial versions of the software and reinstalling it under a newly created Autodesk ID. We hope that once the 2017 version rolls in that they will improve this setup process.

The Essential Knowledge Series breaks down the key fundamentals of structural engineering into concise, accessible study texts, covering the core principles of structural design, analysis and mechanics. They're an invaluable resource for engineering students around the world.
Devised by the Institution's Education Steering Committee and available online, each text has been fully peer reviewed by experts in the field.
It would be great if anyone could upload the whole up-to-date series.
Thanks in advanced.
Includes easy-to-read and understand tables, schematics, and calculations
Presents examples with step-by-step calculations in both US and SI metric units
Provides users with an illustrated, easy-to-understand approach to equations and calculation methods
Description
Construction Engineering Calculations and Rules of Thumb begins with a brief, but rigorous, introduction to the mathematics behind the equations that is followed by self-contained chapters concerning applications for all aspects of construction engineering. Design examples with step-by-step solutions, along with a generous amount of tables, schematics, and calculations are provided to facilitate more accurate solutions through all phases of a project, from planning, through construction and completion.

This valuable reference book is unique in its coverage of examples from the geological sciences, many centred on applications to mineral exploration. The underlying principles of GIS are stressed and emphasis placed on the analysis and modelling of spatial data with applications to site selection and potential mapping. The book commences with a definition of GIS and describes a case study of mapping mineral potential. The ways in which spatial data are organized with models (raster, vector, relational) are discussed and data structures, such as quadtrees and topological structures are introduced. Data input including digitizing, geographic projections and conversions is covered together with output (visualization, representation of colour and spatial query). Spatial data transformations are dealt with thoroughly and attention is paid to map analysis and modelling as related to single maps, map pairs and multiple maps respectively. Methods of quantifying the associations between pairs of maps are emphasized. Finally, examples of landfill site selection and mineral potential mapping illustrate the application of map algebra for combining maps and tables with models, employing Boolean logic, index weighting, fuzzy logic and probability methods such as weights of evidence. There is an extensive glossary of terms, and references accompany each chapter. Contains 40 pages of colour illustrations.
