Icecream PDF Converter is a powerful tool for converting many file types to PDFs, or converting PDFs to individual images. The process starts by choosing a conversion type ("From PDF" or "To PDF"), then dragging and dropping your target files onto the program.

PDF files can be converted to various image formats: JPG, PNG, BMP, TIFF, GIF, EPS or WMF. In theory these can also be packaged as HTML, although this didn't work for us.

There's better support for creating PDFs, with the program importing some Office documents (DOC/ DOCX, XLS/XLSX, ODT, ODS), images (JPG, PNG, BMP), ebooks (EPUB, MOBI, FB2), HTML and more.

You get various options to control the conversion process. It's possible to extract page ranges from a document, for instance (10-15, 123-131), or to merge various input files into a single PDF.

Finally, you're able to choose the output folder. When converting "From PDF" this defaults to a subfolder (MyFile.PDF > MyFile\MyFile_1.JPG, MyFile\MyFile_2.JPG), but this can be set to whatever you like.

For some reason this didn't always work for us. One test PDF had its images missing from the original DOCX, and we had significant problems converting to HTML (that is, nothing happened at all).

Most of our conversions delivered excellent results, though, and if you need this kind of tool then Icecream PDF Converter is worth a try.

Bentley Systems Inc., the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure, has released the Update 1 for LumenRT CONNECT Edition, is our communication tool of choice. It lets us easily produce professional videos and interactive experiences that empower the audience and provide in-depth understanding of our projects.

With this innovative offering, infrastructure professionals need no longer become computer graphics experts to integrate life-like digital nature into their simulated infrastructure designs and create high-impact visuals for stakeholders. Bentley users engaged in the capture of existing conditions to provide context for their designs can further benefit from reality modeling “enlivened” with digital nature. The new subscription includes Bentley’s LumenRT software plus Azure-cloud access to rich content libraries containing plants, trees, people, vehicles, architectural objects, civil engineering elements, and more.

LumenRT empowers visual optioneering by providing “live,” real-time immersive interaction, animating infrastructure environments with traffic simulations, active characters, wind-swept plants, seasonal trees, rolling clouds, and rippling water. Through the “cinematic” quality of LumenRT scenes and the software’s intuitive, hands-on interface, every infrastructure professional can readily envision his or her proposed design alternatives as they would be experienced in actual operation.

LumenRT also lets infrastructure professionals quickly create photographic images, high definition videos, and real-time immersive presentations of architecture, landscape, urban, and infrastructure designs created with all versions of MicroStation, including V8i SELECTseries and CONNECT Edition. Additionally, LumenRT supports other leading CAD/BIM/GIS systems and 3D formats. LumenRT’s engaging and compelling productions enable clients and other project stakeholders to experience design work in a natural world environment.

Used in concert with Bentley’s Acute3D context capture software, the new LumenRT CONNECT Edition subscription will further provide infrastructure professionals with the benefits of reality modeling “enlivened” by digital nature environments.

H2OH!

Author(s)/Editor(s): Amy B. Chan Hilton ,Roseanna M. Neupauer | Size: 2.3 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: ASCE | Year: 2013 | pages: 145 | ISBN: 9780784412541 (paper) ;9780784477021 (PDF)

H2Oh! Classroom Demonstrations for Water Concepts provides a set of 45 classroom activities on water-focused engineering topics that are designed to enhance student learning. Each demonstration is short, so it can be performed as part of a lecture, and focused on visually presenting fundamental principles of water science and engineering. Demonstrations are grouped into five areas: fluid mechanics, hydraulics, surface water hydrology, groundwater hydrology, and water quality. Each demonstration identifies the targeted audience level, activity preparation time , duration of activity, learning objectives, materials, step-by-step instructions, and notes to assist the demonstrator. Some activities are accompanied by questions and answers. A final chapter provides additional resources for water resources education, including publications, web sites, equipment vendors and products, quick activities for fluid mechanics and hydrology, and music and videos with water themes. College-level instructors will want to integrate these activities into undergraduate courses in water engineering and geologic science. Some of the activities are also appropriate for younger students, making this a useful reference for middle and high school teachers
