SOIL DYNAMICS - Arnold Verruijt

PDF format (excellent quality) - 365 pages.
Book plus 6 programs (didactic purpose)

The book mainly presents theoretical solutions of problems of elastodynamics, as applicable in soil dynamics, with emphasis on the full derivation of all solutions, using integral transform methods. These methods are presented briefly in an Appendix. The elastostatic solutions of many problems are also given, as an introduction to the elastodynamic solutions, and as a possible limiting state of the corresponding dynamic problems. For a number of problems of elastodynamics of a half space exact solutions are given, in closed form, using methods developed by Pekeris and De Hoop. Also some approximations are presented in which the horizontal displacements are disregarded, an approximation suggested by Westergaard.
This book contains the lecture notes for the course on ”Soil Dynamics”, as given at the Delft University of Technology.

The book is distributed together with some computer programs to further illustrate the solutions.

  Wind Code for Haiti
Posted by: Arigato - 04-13-2010, 09:08 AM - Forum: Archive - Replies (1)

Guys, do any of you know the Wind Code used in Haiti ?

Im aware that Haiti never implemented nor has a standard building code (reason why many buildings damaged during the earthquake), but is there a code that is used as a reference that is applicable for Haiti Wind loading/design?

I will be designing a telecom structure in that country but I am aware it is within the hurricane belt of the Caribbean.

I have heard about a 'Caribbean Uniform Building Code', but I dont know if any of you can post a copy for dl.

Thanks, A

Dear all,

Now I'm writing my thesis concerning to the box girder with two cells. It's supported by cables which are connected to the arch at above the box. I need to know how to design it manually or by AASHTO LRFD. Anybody help me, please!

midas Civil 2010 - composite bridge
Posted by: rusty - 04-12-2010, 06:20 PM - Forum: Archive Problem - Replies (7)

Hi,

I’m using midas Civil 2010.

1st problem:
I have problem with the run of the Composite plate girder design, I click Design and I get the following message: "Load combination data for composite plate girder design has not been entered." where do I have to enter the load combinations for composite girder? I created load combinations with Results>Combinations...>Concrete tab, in the table of load combinations, I made at least one of the combinations as Strength (under Active column). But I still have the same before-mentioned message.

2nd problem: I would like to analyse a steel-concrete composite bridge with double composite action, additional bottom concrete slab in the area of the intermediate supports. I created the cross section with MIDAS/SPC and exported to Midas Civil Composite-General Section Type. My question: Can I handle the time dependent behaviour of the concrete parts as in the case of typical Composite Steel-I section? I linked material to the composite parts in the SPC but I guess this required only for the calculation of the idealized (homogenized) cross section properties.
I created a beam model with only one girder, because from another accurate model (with shell finite elements) I calculated the lateral distribution function.
Here are the midas model files and the SPC composite export file:

Book Description:
This is the second edition of the valuable reference source for numerical simulations of contact mechanics suitable for many fields like civil engineering, car design, aeronautics, metal forming, or biomechanics. Boundary value problems involving contact are of great importance in industrial applications in engineering such as bearings, metal forming processes, rubber seals, drilling problems, crash analysis of cars, rolling contact between car tires and the road, cooling of electronic devices... Other applications are related to biomechanical engineering design where human joints, implants or teeth are of consideration. Due to this variety, contact problems are today combined either with large elastic or inelastic deformations including time dependent responses. Thermal coupling also might have to be considered. Even stability behaviour has to be linked to contact. The topic of computational contact is described in depth providing an up-to-date treatment of different formulations, algorithms and discretisation techniques for contact problems which are established in the geometrically linear and nonlinear range. This book provides the necessary continuum mechanics background which includes the derivation of the contact constraints. Constitutive equations stemming from tribology which are valid at the contact interface are discussed in detail. Discretization schemes for small and finite deformations are discussed in depth. Solid and beam contact is considered as well as contact of unstable systems and thermomechanical contact. The algorithmic side covers a broad range of solution methods. Additionally adaptive discretisation techniques for contact analysis are presented as a modern tool for engineering design simulations. The present text book is written for graduate, Masters and PhD students, but also for engineers in industry, who have to simulate contact problems in practical application and wish to understand the theoretical and algorithmic background of contact treatment in modern finite element systems. For this second edition, illustrative simplified examples and new discretisation schemes and adaptive procedures for coupled problems are added.

"This is a precast concrete manual excellent for structural engineers abd architects both . it is published by PCI - precast concrete institute . This is the LATEST verision

the book is explang everything for an engineer or architect the precast panels to choose and how to install them this book is having one of the best illustration and detailed drawing on precast design .

it includes both structural design and architectural design . Its a must have for a professional engineer.

i am associated with using precast panels for walls , this manual was of gr8 help to me."
