Study of tunnelling through water-bearing fracture zones

Study of tunnelling through water-bearing fracture zones

This report concerns a study which was conducted for SKB. This report presents results from a baseline study concerning technical issues related to tunnelling through water-bearing fracture zones. SKB aims with this study to improve the generic knowledge of tunnelling through such zones at different depths. As a reference was the experiences of tunnelling through a water-bearing fracture zone with the access ramp to the Äspö Hard Rock Laboratory in Sweden chosen. The content of the report shall be used as a reference for specific issues in the rock engineering design of a deep repository facility.

  ISE: Appraisal of existing structures
Posted by: sheb101 - 06-23-2010, 12:45 PM - Forum: Other Materials (Wood, Brick, etc.) - Replies (6)

Appraisal of existing structures. 2nd edition

Abstract
Concerned with the structural appraisal of buildings, but it is also relevant in parts to the appraisal of other constructions such as bridges, masts, chimneys, cooling towers, cranes and gantries, docks and harbour works, underground structures, containment structures, liquid-excluding structures, pipelines and the like.

Structures being appraised exist physically as opposed to being designed, and therefore much of the uncertainty present at the design stage is absent. This greater certainty can be taken into account in the appraisal, provided sufficient information is gathered.

The report covers the reasons, principles and test methods employed when conducting an appraisal, as well as health and safety and contractual issues.

[SAP2000] how to make Moment-Curvature diagram?
Posted by: kusumoaji - 06-23-2010, 12:14 PM - Forum: Archive Problem - Replies (2)

i make a model using SAP2000, analyzed by Time History - Nonlinear case.
after that, i want to make Moment vs Curvature diagram of Beam and Column.

my question: how to make moment - curvature of beam/column?

can i use "Display> Show Plot Function " and take Moment (M33) of frame (beam/column) for Y axis, and take Joint rotation (Displ - RY) as X axis?
can we assume rotation of end joint as curvature?

Your comment is very appreciated..

  Eurocode thread and google search
Posted by: peixoto - 06-23-2010, 08:55 AM - Forum: Archive - Replies (2)

I think the thread about eurocodes that is marked as important in Codes, Manual & Handbook should be reformulated, because there are several threads that have the latest versions. I think we should compile a complete package of the final eurocodes and make a "clean" thread with that. I can help with some final versions if you need.

Im my opinion, another subject that is "dangerous" to the forum is that when we do a search in google there are several civilea threads as results. I don't know if everyone feels the same, but i think if we could correct this it would be better to the forum....

Richard Klingner, "Masonry Structural Design"
McGraw-Hill Professional | 2010 | ISBN: 007163830X | 588 pages | PDF | 10,3 MB

A Complete Guide to Masonry Materials and Structural Design

Written by the former chair of the Masonry Standards Joint Committee (MSJC), this authoritative volume covers the design of masonry structures using the 2009 International Building Code and the 2008 MSJC Code and Specification.

Masonry Structural Design emphasizes the strength design of masonry and includes allowable-stress provisions. Innovations such as autoclaved aerated concrete masonry (AAC) are also discussed. Real-world case studies featuring a low-rise building with reinforced concrete masonry and a four-story building with clay masonry illustrate the techniques presented in this comprehensive resource.

Coverage includes:

•Basic structural behavior and design of low-rise, bearing wall buildings
•Materials used in masonry construction
•Code basis for structural design of masonry buildings, including seismic design
•Introduction of MSJC treatment of structural design
•Strength design of reinforced and unreinforced masonry elements
•Allowable-stress design of reinforced and unreinforced masonry elements
•Comparison of design by the allowable-stress approach versus the strength approach
•Lateral load analysis of shear wall structure
•Design and detailing of floor and roof diaphragms

Posted by: cheyne - 06-23-2010, 01:41 AM - Forum: Introduce Yourself - No Replies

Hi guys,

I was wondering how i might better serve the forum. Im in my second year of engineering so i don't have much in the way of experience to offer. I can however take direction well. I was wondering if you might think about having an undergraduate engineer section. For that i have alot of info.

Regards Cheyne.
