Thorkild Hvitved-Jacobsen, Jes Vollertsen, Asbjorn Haaning Nielsen, "Urban and Highway Stormwater Pollution: Concepts and Engineering"
CRC Press | 2010 | ISBN: 1439826854 | 367 pages | PDF | 5,1 MB

As the world population grows, already burgeoning cities are becoming taxed in every conceivable way. One topic that receives few headlines, but significantly impacts an area’s quality of health and economic development is the challenge to maintain sustainable urban drainage (SUD). Poor drainage can hamper transportation, add to problems of pollution, and compromise essential clean water resources. While a number of references concentrate on the hydrology, hydraulics, and transport phenomena relevant for urban drainage, we must recognize that any solution requires a more comprehensive consideration of the problem.

Urban and Highway Stormwater Pollution: Concepts and Engineering offers current and future engineers, planners, designers, and operators a comprehensive text on wet weather pollution originating from urban drainage and road runoff. Bringing together the empirical and theoretical approaches needed to mitigate the problem, this volume:

Provides a basic understanding of sources, pathways, and impacts of pollutants associated with wet weather hydrologic cycles occurring in areas with impervious or semi-impervious surfaces

Examines wet weather pollutant discharges into streams, lakes, and coastal waters, as well as soil systems

Details tools to quantify physical, chemical, and biological characteristics associated with wet weather pollution and methodologies for pollution abatement, control, and monitoring runoff

Offers general methodologies and site-specific approaches to deal with stormwater runoff, road runoff, and sewer overflows

Supplies reliable predictive tools and modeling methods

SUD is rapidly becoming a problem of crisis proportions; but while we must act quickly, any solution must be based on sound principles, accurate data, and proven methods. Written by top researchers with years of experience, this book offers those working at the front line with an accessible resource that helps ameliorate problem situations and prevent others from developing.

SIZE 78.5 Mb
scanned copy
# of pages 368
This book is considered on of the most widely used deign aids at masr (Egypt). It contains numerous charts and tables to aid in the design of RC structures due to the Egyptian concrete code of practice (ECCP). The book is useful to the other engineering who working on other standards and it has formulas 'tables,charts.......etc for helping in some recourse and tedious daily calculations for example :how to get the straining actions on circular beams , moment in cylindrical walls..........

I hope the book be benefit to the all.

  Nondestructive Testing of Deep Foundations

Nondestructive Testing of Deep Foundations

Bernard Hertlein and Allen Davis "Nondestructive Testing of Deep Foundations"
Published by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. | Publication date : October 2006 | ISBN : 0470848502 | PDF | 290 pages | English |7.9 MB

Nondestructive Testing involves the use of methods such as wave propagation, electromagnetism, electrical conductivity, and thermal conductivity to test structural integrity and thereby allow nondestructive assessment of structures and the possibility of structural failures before they occur. The book covers different techniques designed to provide information about the integrity and quality of the material that makes up a deep foundation.

Nondestructive Testing methods are used at all stages of a structure's life - from new construction quality control to residual lifetime prediction, and even during the monitoring of demolition. In addition, Nondestructive Testing is being increasingly specified in deep foundation projects, though often without a good understanding of its limitations and with the result that methods are often misused. In order to be able to specify an appropriate method, or to recognize an inappropriate specification, it is necessary for the engineer, specifier and/or contractor to understand the capabilities and limitations of each of the methods currently in use.

Nondestructive Testing of Deep Foundations:
* Describes the most commonly used deep foundation construction techniques, including typical use of material
* Provides a brief history of the development of commercially available nondestructive methods
* Summarises each method's capabilities and limitations
* Acts as a one stop reference drawing together resources only previously available in conference proceedings and journal papers

This manual will prove to be a welcome addition to the bookshelf of all practitioners in civil/structural and geotechnical engineering and architecture. It will also provide a valuable insight into this highly technical field for university researchers, lecturers and postgraduate students in civil/structural and geotechnical engineering.
