This book is about computing eigenvalues, eigenvectors, and invariant subspaces of matrices. Treatment includes generalized and structured eigenvalue problems and all vital aspects of eigenvalue computations. A unique feature is the detailed treatment of structured eigenvalue problems, providing insight on accuracy and efficiency gains to be expected from algorithms that take the structure of a matrix into account.

Editorial Reviews
From the reviews of the first edition: "This book deals with the numerical methods for general and structured eigenvalue problems. … These lecture notes provide a detailed treatment and an updated account on the various eigenvalue algorithms and related topics … . In today’s world of computing, it is certainly a valuable reference and tool for anyone using methods of numerical linear algebra." (Amin Boumenir, Zentralblatt MATH, Vol. 1079, 2006)

Architect's Pocket Book

Author: Charlotte Baden-Powell | Size: 6.60 MB | Format: PDF | Publisher: Architectural Press | Year: 23 April 2001 | pages: 305 | ISBN: 0750647647, ISBN-13: 978-0750647649

This fully revised edition of the pocket book includes everyday information which the architect/designer normally has to find from a wide variety of sources and which is not always easily to hand. The book is of use to the student as well as the experienced practitioner. There is no similar compendium currently available.

The book includes data about planning, structure, services, building elements, materials and addresses, and is intended to be used both at the drawing board and on site.
The selection of the material by the author is based on many years' experience of architectural practice in both public and private offices.
Now fully updated to take into account the new 2002 editions to the Building Regulations documents H, J, L1 and L2.

Charlotte Baden-Powell was trained at the Architectural Association in London and has practised as an architect for 38 years. She began by working for British Rail and later for Sir Denys Lasdun. Since then she has run her own practice in London and Bath, dealing with new works as well as the restoration and extension of old buildings. She has written and lectured about the design of kitchens and bathrooms and is the author of Fireplace Design and Construction.

* Saves you time by gathering together essential, useful and practical information for both the student and practising architect
* Invaluable to students whose theoretical courses do not prepare them for the practicalities of professional practice
* Keeps you up to date by including 36 pages of new information looking at a broad range of current issues from bicycle parking spaces to types of paint

  Blueprint Template Drawing
Posted by: rkce - 11-14-2011, 09:41 AM - Forum: Request - No Replies

Dear All,

Please share the Blueprint drawing template in AutoCad dwf format.

Blueprint has:

- Standard Layer's name
- Standard Line thickness
- Standard Line Type
- Standard Line's color
- Standard title block

Normally the Design Company adopt the blueprint standard for their company, when starting the new drawing they will use that.

That's why no need to create layer from scratch.

Best regards,

rkce

Architecture for Astronauts: An Activity-based Approach

Architecture for Astronauts: An Activity-based Approach

Author: Sandra Häuplik-Meusburger | Size: 14.49 MB | Format: PDF | Publisher: Springer | Year: June 27, 2011 | pages: 330 | ISBN: 3709106664, ISBN-13: 978-3709106662

The first part of this book introduces all relevant American and Russian realized extra-terrestrial habitats: The Apollo Spacecraft and Lunar Module, the Space Shuttle Orbiter, and the Space Stations; Salyut, Skylab, Mir, as well as the International Space Station. It provides an overview of the architecture and configuration, highlights specific issues concerning the interior layout and compares the spatial and time allocation of human activities. Drawings and diagrams facilitate comparison.

The main part of the book concentrates on the investigation of the relationship between the environment and its users. This method evaluates and summarizes all the selected habitats by means of the human activities in relation to the characteristics of the built environment (Sleep, Hygiene, Food, Work and Leisure). In addition to analyzing the available data, it integrates the astronauts' personal experiences into the evaluation.

The author conducted structured interviews with astronauts with a special focus on human activity. The book confronts the findings from relevant literature and analysis - based on crew transcripts, spacecraft drawings and mission images - with the personal experiences of the users: the astronauts and cosmonauts. To facilitate orientation and to ease comparison with architectural drawings and diagrams each category was assigned a specific colour. Design directions for each category conclude each chapter.

Suggestion seeking thread about the Structure and environment combination
Posted by: zonoiko - 11-14-2011, 06:14 AM - Forum: Free Discussion - No Replies

Dear All,

I have been employed in a private company as a structural steel designer for about 4 years. I do some RCC design too. But recently I got opportunity to be employed in permanent Governmental service of 'Department of Public health Engineering' which mainly deals with Water quality and Tube-well i.e environmental engineering. It seems that, My experience in structural engineering may not be very useful in this regard. But, The governmental job seems more prospective than the latest private service.

1. Is there any combination of subject of structural and environmental engineering which can be helpful to attain MS or over degree in US/Canada universities?
2. Or my proficiency in structure can be useful in this professional regard?

Need experience engineers' suggestion!
Thank you in advance.

Intelligent Road Design

Author: M. K. Jha, P. Schonfeld, J-C Jong, E. Kim | Size: 4.8 MB | Format: PDF | Publisher: WITPress | Year: 2006 | pages: 449 | ISBN: 1845640039

n the last two decades most urban roads have experienced tremendous growth in traffic leading to frequent congestion and delays. Due to shrinking right-of-way and limited highway budgets, roadway planners and designers have been constantly exploring innovative ways of road design. Moreover, in recent years, highway agencies have often found it difficult to secure adequate funds for road construction due to conflicting public opinions and political views. This book addresses the intelligent concepts of the ancient endeavor of road design. An intelligent road design model that can quickly optimize horizontal and vertical alignments will allow quick evaluations of many competing alignment alternatives that should allow quicker political and public approval. For such purposes this book extensively discusses how a road alignment optimization model can be developed and applied in real case studies. Based on over eight years of research by the authors in intelligent road design and alignment optimization, this advanced text book will be appropriate for road planners, designers, senior undergraduate students and graduate students.
