Engineering Couses - Video/WEB Course

info:

Probably, this is the best link that I saw this year! (engineering courses related).
Show us how India invest in education (good quality education!) Theres more them 350 hour of engineering courses/web equivalent, someones as same level as post-graduating courses!

The main objective of NPTEL program is to enhance the quality of engineering education in the country [India] by developing curriculum based video and web courses. This is being carried out by seven IITs and IISc Bangalore as a collaborative project. In the first phase of the project, supplementary content for 129 web courses in engineering/science and humanities have been developed. Each course contains materials that can be covered in depth in 40 or more lecture hours. In addition, 110 courses have been developed in video format, with each course comprising of approximately 40 or more one-hour lectures. In the next phase other premier institutions are also likely to participate in content creation.

WORKSHOP ON TALL BUILDING DESIGN AND ANALYSIS ISSUES

info:
The purpose of the Workshop on Tall Building Seismic Design and Analysis
Issues was to solicit the opinions and collective recommendations of leading
practitioners, regulators, and researchers actively involved in design,
permitting, and construction of tall buildings. The outcome of this workshop
is a prioritized list of the most important tall building modeling and
acceptance criteria issues needing resolution, based on the discussion of the
multi-disciplinary stakeholders in attendance. This list will be used as the
basis for future work in developing recommended guidelines for tall building
design as part of the PEER Tall Buildings Initiative.

EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT DESIGN AND RISK REDUCTION

Earthquake Resistant Design and Risk Reduction

info:
Earthquake Resistant Design and Risk Reduction
By Dr. David J. Dowrick
Publisher: Wiley | 548 pages | 2009-09-15 | ISBN: 0470778156 | English | PDF | 5.6 MB

Product Description:

Earthquake Resistant Design and Risk Reduction, 2nd edition is based upon global research and development work over the last 50 years or more, and follows the author’s series of three books Earthquake Resistant Design, 1st and 2nd editions (1977 and 1987), and Earthquake Risk Reduction (2003). Many advances have been made since the 2003 edition of Earthquake Risk Reduction, and there is every sign that this rate of progress will continue apace in the years to come. Compiled from the author’s wide design and research experience in earthquake engineering and engineering seismology, this key text provides an excellent treatment of the complex multidisciplinary process of earthquake resistant design and risk reduction.

New topics include the creation of low-damage structures and the spatial distribution of ground shaking near large fault ruptures. Sections on guidance for developing countries, response of buildings to differential settlement in liquefaction, performance-based and displacement-based design and the architectural aspects of earthquake resistant design are heavily revised.

This book:

* Outlines individual national weaknesses that contribute to earthquake risk to people and property
* Calculates the seismic response of soils and structures, using the structural continuum “Subsoil – Substructure – Superstructure – Non–structure”
* Evaluates the effectiveness of given design and construction procedures for reducing casualties and financial losses
* Provides guidance on the key issue of choice of structural form
* Presents earthquake resistant design methods for the main four structural materials – steel, concrete, reinforced masonry and timber – as well as for services equipment, plant and non-structural architectural components
* Contains a chapter devoted to problems involved in improving (retrofitting) the existing built environment

This book is an invaluable reference and guiding tool to practising civil and structural engineers and architects, researchers and postgraduate students in earthquake engineering and engineering seismology, local governments and risk management officials.

Cladding of Buildings

Info:
Authors: Alan J. Brookes, Maarten Meijs
Edition: 4, illustrated
Publisher: Taylor & Francis, 2008
ISBN: 0415383870, 9780415383875

This key text addresses the topic of lightweight claddings in buildings and is a useful guide and key reference resource. Written by well-known specialists in the field, this new edition of an established text has been revised throughout to incorporate the latest environmental issues and use of new materials, particularly the new moulded materials. Two new chapters cover wood and terracotta in cladding. The main types of cladding systems are described in detail and methods of production, performance characteristics, applications and methods of assembly are explained clearly. Illustrated throughout with photographs and numerous line drawings, this is an essential overview of the subject for both the student and the practising architect.

CISC - Moment Connections for Seismic Applications

Info:
Edition: 2008
Publisher: Canadian Institute of Steel Construction
ISBN: 0888111061
Length: 46 pages
Pdf: 1.1 Mb

Clause 27 of CSA Standard S16-01 stipulates performance criteria for beam-to-column connections for Ductile (Type D) Moment-Resisting Frames and for Moderately Ductile (Type MD) Moment-Resisting Frames and requires that they be met by means of physical testing. Connections for Limited-Ductility (Type LD) Moment-Resisting Frames may either be qualified by testing or be proportioned and detailed in accordance with the specific requirements provided in Clause 27.4.

This CISC publication concentrates on the design criteria for some of the beam-to-column connections provided in FEMA 350 'Recommended Seismic Design Criteria for New Steel Moment-Frame Buildings' (FEMA 2000a). It is intended to be used in conjunction with the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC 1995 and 2005), and CSA Standard S16-01, Limit States Design of Steel Structures.
