  Dividing Steel Books section
Posted by: mowafi3m - 01-26-2011, 04:32 PM - Forum: Archive - Replies (5)

Dear Admin , moderators , and all members
now the steel item is playing an influenced role in our civilization life, and our forum is the most forum I have ever seen intrested in steel branch
so, my suggestion is to divide the steel books section as the following
1. Academic books
under this title we put all related materials ( books , master degrees , codes , manuals , searching, news, .. etc - other meaning we can join papers and books together under the above title
2. example and solved proplems
under this title we put all related materials ( example , solved proplems , calculation sheets , and discussion about any actual project under design , sharing existing projects especially which constructed by members
3. fabrication
fabrication is the (horse stall) - because there is no meaning to design without knowing HOW TO FABRICATE
under this title we put all related materials ( all the welding technology , welding types and how to apply, welding machine type and how to use , famous factories arround the wrold ,
4.method of statement
under this title we put all related materials ( installation method , equipments which used in erection, site proplems , safty ..... etc )

I know in advance it will be hard work for moderators and any one related to move the posts and rearrange it , but at least let us to start and work partially with the available time
believe me (the steel ) is very important branch and deserves that
thanks in advace even my suggestion will be rejected

Coastal Engineering: Waves, Beaches, Wave-Structure Interactions

Coastal Engineering: Waves, Beaches, Wave-Structure Interactions

Elsevier Publishing Company | February 1995 | ISBN-10: 044482068X | 479 pages | PDF | 19.31 mb

The science and technology of coastal and ocean engineering are closely related to harbour and fishery engineering, because they share a common basic knowledge. However, whereas various publications of coastal engineering, harbour engineering, and ocean engineering have described just the knowledge in their own respective fields, an interrelated and systematic presentation linking them together has yet to be attempted. This book an attempt to systematically combine the fields of coastal, ocean, harbour, and fishery engineering from an engineering viewpoint backed by hydrodynamics. Understanding the interaction of waves with structures and sediment, and predicting the associated responses of interest, underlie nearly every problem in coastal and ocean engineering. This is precisely the goal of this book. Although primarily intended for use as a special textbook for graduate students and senior practising engineers, it is hoped that this book will also serve as a useful reference and assist in the further development of this field. With these objectives in mind, each chapter deals with important problems to be solved in the near future. The references included in each chapter should aid students and practising engineers in further broadening their knowledge.

CEN/TS 14972:2008 Fixed firefighting systems - Watermist systems - Design and install
Posted by: ir_71 - 01-26-2011, 05:34 AM - Forum: Codes, Manual & Handbook - Replies (1)

CEN/TS 14972:2008 Fixed firefighting systems - Watermist systems - Design and installation

Author: CEN/TC 191 | Size: 4.17 MB | Format: PDF | Publisher: CEN | Year: 2008 | pages: 74

This document specifies requirements and gives information on design, installation and testing and gives criteria for the acceptance of fixed landbased watermist systems for specific hazards and provides fire test protocols for a variety of hazard groups.
The requirements are not valid for watermist systems on ships, in aircraft, on vehicles and mobile fire appliances or for below ground systems in the mining industry. The requirements can be used as a guidance for other fixed firefighting systems, however, provided that any specific requirements for other firefighting supplies are taken into account. Aspects of watermist associated with explosion protection are beyond the scope of this document. As the fire test scenarios of this document apply to a group of similar applications, by analogy the successful performance of watermist systems also applies to that group, as defined in Annex A. Extrapolation is not covered.
The document is not intended to be used as a universal design manual of watermist, as different systems have different characteristics and hence follow different design criteria to satisfy their duty requirements. In the absence of a generalized design method, it is the intent of this document that watermist systems are full-scale fire tested and its system component evaluations are conducted by qualified testing laboratories.
The full system acceptance requires the relevant fire test report, the component test report(s) as well as manufacturer’s design, installation, operation and maintenance manual for the application.
If the gas in the system is a significant factor for extinguishment/suppression, the relevant parts of EN 12094 and EN 15004-1 are applicable. Firefighting systems in accordance with EN 12845 and water spray systems are not covered.

Structural Engineering opportunities in the Middle East
Posted by: hmwere - 01-26-2011, 04:34 AM - Forum: Free Discussion - Replies (4)

Hi fellow CiviliEAns,

I have heard a lot of amazing facts about the Middle East ( say Dubai and Abu Dhabi).
It is said that the region's rapid growth over recent years has resulted in the availability of many different types of engineering jobs in both building and infrastructure. A booming population and the construction of the world's biggest buildings ( say the burj khalifa, burj dubai, palm islands, "the world on sea" )and other amazing new developments has in turn created a demand for new and upgraded civil infrastructure to support all of the development. This in turn calls for a work force.

It seems a place to be for a structural Engineer who would love to further his skills and career in the field of building design.

Well, I have no idea. I will be completing my Masters thesis in 4 months time, and I intend to give it a shot! And how easy will the shot be? I have no idea too.

There exists a lot of information on the internet if googled, but I believe CivilEA will give me the information, if not alll, I need.

I request advice from the experienced Engineers in this region, on how easy it is getting absorbed as one of the Middle East ( Dubai/Abu Dhabi) work force, and whether it is really the place for one to be if one is up for challenges.
Are there any other trusted websites that one can visit if they intend to seek for an opportunity in this region.

Regards

Advances in Research in Karst Media

Author: Bartolomé Andreo _ Francisco Carrasco Juan José Durán _ James W. LaMoreaux | Size: 15.94 MB | Format: PDF

The present book may be considered an update of karst hydrogeology landforms and cavities, described by numerous specialists who have investigated various aspects of these topics. It is a good example of investigations on karst systems in the last few years, and at the same time it provides an illustrative synthesis of the research tasks being performed out, among others, as part of the IGCP 513 project of the UNESCO, and IAH Karst Commission. This Project has been useful as a forum for the exchange of results and experience accumulated by researchers over recent years concerning karst-related issues. The result is a more integrated vision on karst, taking into account the diversity of geological and climatic contexts in the world.
