This simple Etabs model includes all the IBC2009 load combinations for ease of creating structural models without the need to repeat them everytime manually and sometimes with mistakes.

This model is reliable for C40 grade of concrete as a default concrete material and the basic load cases: self weights, partitions, finishes, equipments, ceiling, live loads, earth quake load effect and wind loads.

Indeed you will need to modify the parameters of the earth quake and wind loads to match the case of your desired building.

Discovery Channel: Extreme Engineering [Complete Season]
Posted by: Administrator - 01-30-2012, 09:42 AM - Forum: Civil Engineering Videos - Replies (5)

Extreme Engineering
Extreme Engineering is a documentary television series that airs on the Discovery Channel and the Science Channel. The program features futuristic and ongoing engineering projects. As of April 2011, the show is airing its ninth season. Danny Forster first hosted the series in season 4 and has been the host since season 6. The show was renamed Build It Bigger in the United States but retains its name when broadcast in Europe.

Origins of the show

Engineering the Impossible was a 2-hour special, created and written by Alan Lindgren and produced by Powderhouse Productions for the Discovery Channel. It focused on three incredible, yet physically possible, engineering projects: the nine mile (14 km)-long Gibraltar Bridge, the 170-story Millennium Tower and the 4000+-foot-long Freedom Ship. This program won the Beijing International Science Film Festival Silver Award, and earned Discovery's second-highest, weeknight rating for 2002. After the success of this program, Discovery commissioned Powderhouse to produce the first season of the 10-part series, Extreme Engineering, whose episodes were written by Alan Lindgren, Ed Fields and several other Powderhouse writer-producers. Like Engineering the Impossible, the first season of Extreme Engineering focused on extreme projects of the future. Season 2 (and all seasons since) featured projects already in construction around the world.
Gotthard Base Tunnel ( Season 1, Episode 6) - The TBM from Bodio arrived at MFS Faido in September 2006

WAGtv Ltd. produced 6 episodes for Discovery that were also broadcast in the United States as part of the 4th season of Extreme Engineering.

Rubber as a Construction Material for Corrosion Protection
Posted by: jamildear4u - 01-29-2012, 08:15 PM - Forum: Mechanics & Material Technology (Elasticity, Plasticity and Nonlinearity) - No Replies

Rubber as a Construction Material for Corrosion Protection

Size: 13 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: Wiley-Scrivener | Year: 2010 | pages: 297 | ISBN: 0470625945

First book on rubber used as a construction material dedicated to the chemical process industry

Despite the long history of rubber as a construction material, this book is a unique publication as it comprehensively looks at the material with respect to the anti-corrosion requirements of the multitude of industries where rubber is used, both on land and offshore. This guide documents how rubber reliably meets the threats of corrosion and contributes to the longevity of the equipment. Chapters on ebonite, natural, and synthetic rubbers, examine their relevant properties and chemical resistance.

The book details the practical aspects and handling of rubber lined equipment: thin-walled structures, vacuum vessels, ducts, large diameter tanks, agitators, and fully lined pipes (both inside and outside). Molded and fabricated products of ebonite and soft rubber as well as hand-made rubber products are shown along with vulcanization technology, testing and inspections, measurements and standards. Several case studies are included demonstrating the preferential choice of rubber as a construction material as well as practical applications and techniques of its usage in the chlor-alkali, fertilizer, mineral processing and other core chemical processing industries, which are the largest consumers of rubber as a material of construction. The volume ends with a section on aging and prediction of service life.

Rubber as a Construction Material for Corrosion Protection will be used by chemical engineers, rubber technologists, students, research workers worldwide in the rubber industry and process industries such as fertilizer, mining and ore, oil & gas, paper and pulp, steel plants, as well as people engaged in corrosion protection. The book will also be very useful to the construction industry.

Since 1966 architects and builders have specified millions of roof and floor trusses engineered by the staff of Alpine Engineered Products, Inc. These trusses, manufactured by truss plants in every state and province, are used in one of every five homes built in the U.S. and Canada today, as well as in many commercial, institutional and agricultural buildings.

Alpine maintains a leadership position in the industry through research, development, technical knowledge and customer oriented service. Our truss manufacturers are supported
by more than 30 professional engineers in the U.S. representing all 50 states and the 10 provinces in Canada, and more than one hundred other design and computer technicians.
Alpine’s truss design methodology is in accordance with national standards and is backed by extensive research and testing.

Truss manufacturers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and South Africa depend on Alpine for truss assembly equipment, metal connector plates, truss design service,
