Practical Methods for the Analysis of Piled Raft Foundations
Posted by: mary - 12-19-2012, 07:43 AM - Forum: Archive - No Replies

Close window Practical Methods for the Analysis of Piled Raft Foundations: Computer-Aided Analysis, Design Charts, Simplified Methods

Author: Volkan KALTAKCI | Size: ? MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing | Year: September 16, 2009 | pages: 120 | ISBN: 3838314050

The use of piled raft foundations has significantly increased over the last few decades since taking into account the contribution of the raft to the overall bearing capacity enabled the engineers to design much more efficient piled foundations which perform as well as the conventionally designed ones with significantly lower number of piles. However, although many researchers have been studying on this subject, a user-friendly design procedure is still not available in the literature. This book, therefore, offers two different simple methods to estimate the settlements of the piled raft foundations. Utilizing the charts provided in this book, the settlement of a piled raft foundation can be obtained by simple hand calculations in the first method while it can be calculated by computerized analysis in the second one. This book should be especially useful for the geotechnical experts and/or engineers looking for a simplified method for the analysis of piled rafts and academicians who are interested in the subject.

BUILDING AND PLANNING FOR INDUSTRIAL STORAGE AND DISTRIBUTION

BUILDING AND PLANNING FOR INDUSTRIAL STORAGE AND DISTRIBUTION

Author: Jolyon Drury and Peter Falconer | Size: 27.2 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: Architectural Press | Year: 2003 | pages: 285 | ISBN: 0 7506 48198

The bible of the industrial storage and distribution industry and the manual of policy and practice. It provides information for those with empty buildings on their hands, those trying to find space for new and/or growing enterprises and those faced with the problem of how to manage multi-tenant, multi-use buildings. An outline of feasibility studies both from the standpoint of users looking for a building and buildings looking for a use is also included. One is matched with the other.

The whole process is explained and placed in a legal and planning framework. Allowances for technological change and expansion are outlined as well as an explanation of the significance of various patterns of ownership, tenancy and management that can be adopted. As the container has been universally acepted for use in materials handling, this book is internationally relevant.

Physical Properties of Rock: A workbook
Posted by: mary - 12-18-2012, 01:59 PM - Forum: Soil Investigation and Mechanics - Replies (1)

Physical Properties of Rock: A workbook

Author: J. H. Schön | Size: 6 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Year: 2011-08-16 | pages: 494 | ISBN: 0444537961

This book focuses on the applications of geophysics in addressing rock properties for petroleum geoscience, geotechnical, and geothermal applications. Sophisticated geophysical techniques deliver a fascinating collection of physical data-but they are essentially indirect: information on the velocity of seismic waves, electrical conductivity, nuclear spectra, etc. must be translated in terms of lithology, porosity, fracturing, fluid saturation, permeability, and geomechanical properties. Petrophysical data analysis is one of the key technologies for characterizing reservoirs and for prediction of relevant reservoir parameters using well-log and surface geophysical (seismic) data.
Individual chapters cover reservoir properties, petrophysical aspects of NMR, density, electrical, elastic, mechanical, nuclear, thermal, and magnetic rock properties. In a special chapter, selected relationships are presented as a foundation for combined interpretation.
Presenting the fundamentals of rock physics and combined interpretation techniques, the book may be used as a handbook as well as a textbook for the large community of geoscientists and reservoir engineers.
Presents all practical relevant properties of rock in one volume
Experimental and theoretical fundamentals in a systematic framework
Special focus on relationships between properties

The Evolution of Designs: Biological Analogy in Architecture and the Applied Arts
Posted by: shadabg - 12-18-2012, 09:13 AM - Forum: Architecture Books - No Replies

The Evolution of Designs: Biological Analogy in Architecture and the Applied Arts

Author: Philip Steadman | Size: 2.45 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: Routledge | Year: 2008 | pages: 320 | ISBN: 0415447534

This book tells the history of the many analogies that have been made between the evolution of organisms and the human production of artefacts, especially buildings. It examines the effects of these analogies on architectural and design theory and considers how recent biological thinking has relevance for design.

Architects and designers have looked to biology for inspiration since the early 19th century. They have sought not just to imitate the forms of plants and animals, but to find methods in design analogous to the processes of growth and evolution in nature.

This new revised edition of this classic work adds an extended Afterword covering recent developments such as the introduction of computer methods in design in the 1980s and ‘90s, which have made possible a new kind of ‘biomorphic’ architecture through ‘genetic algorithms’ and other programming techniques.

Report Writing for Architects and Project Managers
Posted by: shadabg - 12-18-2012, 08:56 AM - Forum: Project Management - No Replies

Report Writing for Architects and Project Managers

Author: David Chappell | Size: 4.2 / 3.9 MB | Format: PDF / RAR | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: Wiley-Blackwell | Year: 1996 | pages: 168 | ISBN: 0632040017

Report writing is a very neglected aspect of architectural practice, and seems to be a skill architects think they can 'pick up' along the way as they gain experience. Yet a sizeable part of an architect's work consists of preparing different kinds of reports. This book, therefore, provides samples of standard report formats to cover most of those needed in an architectural practice, and should help simply the typical architect's job.

ISO 22156:2004 Bamboo - Structural design

Author: ISO/TC 98 | Size: 3.24 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: ISO | Year: 2004 | pages: 20

ISO 22156:2004 applies to the use of bamboo structures, i.e. structures made of bamboo (round bamboo, split bamboo, glued laminated bamboo) or bamboo-based panels joined together with adhesives or mechanical fasteners.

ISO 22156:2004 is based on limit-state design, and on the performance of the structure. It is only concerned with the requirements for mechanical resistance, serviceability and durability of structures.

  Section for Mac softwares
Posted by: ykhackhack - 12-16-2012, 09:22 AM - Forum: Free Discussion - Replies (10)

Since Mac computers started to offer or made available to have two operating system on their computer. A lot of people started to switch to Mac computers.

It has been a better operating system since the beginning but it was expensive, and there were no (almost none) softwares for technical people.

Searching the internet and their application store reveals that now Mac / Apple also have solid softwares for eveything else.

I was just wondering , what if Dear Admin and Moderetaors would explore this area to start / allow a section about this new trend. In the form I have found some posts for Mac already

Same thought goes with iPad, iPhone, smart phones etc.

I myself started to use a Mac, it is impressive ( Even Windows opearates faster and better in Mac environment

We want CivilEA stay ahead always

Thanks for your time
