I received the following email from 4Shared today and thought it prudent to pass onto the forum since several downloads are found on that site. While it doesn't appear that 4shared is going to disappear completely, it does appear to me that they wish for us to update our files to a new server.
Quote:Dear 4shared user,
In the coming weeks, we're going to retire 4shared accounts support in 4Sync applications. This step is important to make 4Sync even more reliable and easy to use.
After the 24th of December 2012 you won't be able to use 4Sync with your 4shared account. We're encouraging existing 4shared users to create a new 4Sync account and transfer files.

The blog itself has the following information (comments left off for clarity):
Quote:New Year is coming, and usually it means changes. Year 2012 was a busy year for us at 4Sync. Many things changed for desktop application, and for mobile 4Sync. Now we want to focus on improving user experience, and want to make things simpler. In the coming weeks we will stop the ability to log in to 4Sync applications with 4shared accounts. This step is important for us to make 4Sync even more reliable and easy solution for keeping all your files in sync.
After December 24th, 2012 you won’t be able to use 4Sync with your 4shared account, but all your files will remain at 4shared. We are encouraging all current 4shared users to create a new 4Sync account and transfer all their files to this account.
After December 24th, 2012 you can create a new 4Sync account with the same email as you use at 4shared. Alternatively 4shared Desktop application may be used to manage your files at 4shared.

Due to global competition, safety regulations, and other factors, manufacturers are increasingly pressed to create products that are safe, highly reliable, and of high quality. Engineers and quality assurance professionals need a cross-disciplinary understanding of these topics in order to ensure high standards in the design and manufacturing processes. Reliability, Quality, and Safety for Engineers is the first publication to integrate this information in a single source.
The text begins with an introduction that discusses the need for reliability, quality and safety as well as historical information, terms, and definitions. Subsequent chapters discuss relevant mathematics, evaluation models and methods, testing, management, and costing. The author treats each topic in a comprehensive manner that requires no prior knowledge of the subject in order to understand the contents.
The author includes numerous examples, problems, and solutions to test the reader's comprehension. He also lists important journals, organizations, standards, and books for further study, creating a comprehensive resource for design, system, safety and manufacturing engineers as well as reliability specialists and quality assurance professionals.
About the author (2005) :
Dr. B.S. Dhillon is a Professor of Engineering Management in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa. He attended the University of Wales where he received a BS in electrical and electronic engineering and an MS in mechanical engineering. He received a Ph.D. in industrial engineering from the University of Windsor.
He has served as a Chairman/Director of Mechanical Engineering Department/Engineering Management Program for over 10 years at the same institution. He has served as a consultant to various organizations and bodies and has many years of experience in the industrial sector. He has published over 320 articles on engineering management, reliability, safety, etc. He has been on the editorial boards of 8 international scientific journals. In addition, Dr. Dhillon has written 29 books on various aspects of engineering management, design, reliability, safety, and quality published by Wiley (1981), Van Nostrand (1982), Butterworth (1983), Marcel Dekker (1984), Pergamon (1986), etc. He has served as General Chairman of two international conferences on reliability and quality control held in Los Angeles and Paris in 1987.

"Towards a New Architecture" by Le Corbusier is THE classic book advocating for and exploring the concept of modern architecture. It has had an undeniable lasting effect on the architectural profession, serving as the manifesto for a generation of architects and unquestionably a critical piece of architectural theory. The architectural historian Reyner Banham claimed that its influence is definately "beyond that of any other architectural work published in this [20th] century to date" and this unparalleled influence has continued into the 21st century.

Design on the Edge: The Making of a High-Performance Building
Author: David W. Orr | Size: 2 MB | Format:PDF | Quality:Original preprint | Publisher: The MIT Press | Year: 2006 | pages: 296 | ISBN: 0262151170
The story of the Adam Joseph Lewis Center at Oberlin College--the first substantially green building to be built on a college campus--encompasses more than the particulars of one building. In Design on the Edge, David Orr writes about the planning and design of Oberlin's environmental studies building as part of a larger story about the art and science of ecological design and the ability of institutions of higher learning themselves to learn.
The Lewis Center, which has attracted worldwide attention as a model of ecological design, operates according to environmental principles. It is powered entirely by solar energy, features landscaping with fruit trees and vegetable gardens, and houses a Living Machine, which processes all wastewater for reuse in the building or landscape. Orr puts the Lewis Center into historical design context and describes the obstacles and successes he encountered in obtaining funds and college approval, interweaving the particulars of the center with thoughts on the larger environmental and societal issues the building process illustrates.
Equal parts analysis, personal reflection, and call to action, Design on the Edge illustrates the process of institutional change, institutional learning, and the political economy of design. It describes how the idea of the Lewis Center originated and was translated into reality with the help of such environmental visionaries as William McDonough and John Todd, and how the building has performed since its completion.
College and university administrators will spend 17 billion dollars on new buildings over the next few years. Design on the Edge is essential reading for architects, planners, and environmentalists who need to sell the innovations of ecological design to wary institutions, and for educators and students whose profession is undermined by the very buildings they work in--and for anyone who has ever tried to change an organization for the better.

The use of piled raft foundations has significantly increased over the last few decades since taking into account the contribution of the raft to the overall bearing capacity enabled the engineers to design much more efficient piled foundations which perform as well as the conventionally designed ones with significantly lower number of piles. However, although many researchers have been studying on this subject, a user-friendly design procedure is still not available in the literature. This book, therefore, offers two different simple methods to estimate the settlements of the piled raft foundations. Utilizing the charts provided in this book, the settlement of a piled raft foundation can be obtained by simple hand calculations in the first method while it can be calculated by computerized analysis in the second one. This book should be especially useful for the geotechnical experts and/or engineers looking for a simplified method for the analysis of piled rafts and academicians who are interested in the subject.

The bible of the industrial storage and distribution industry and the manual of policy and practice. It provides information for those with empty buildings on their hands, those trying to find space for new and/or growing enterprises and those faced with the problem of how to manage multi-tenant, multi-use buildings. An outline of feasibility studies both from the standpoint of users looking for a building and buildings looking for a use is also included. One is matched with the other.
The whole process is explained and placed in a legal and planning framework. Allowances for technological change and expansion are outlined as well as an explanation of the significance of various patterns of ownership, tenancy and management that can be adopted. As the container has been universally acepted for use in materials handling, this book is internationally relevant.
