A sharp and lively text that covers issues in depth but not to the point that they become inaccessible to beginning students, An Introduction to Architectural Theory is the first narrative history of this period, charting the veritable revolution in architectural thinking that has taken place, as well as the implications of this intellectual upheaval. The first comprehensive and critical history of architectural theory over the last fifty years
surveys the intellectual history of architecture since 1968, including criticisms of high modernism, the rise of postmodern and poststructural theory, critical regionalism and tectonics
Offers a comprehensive overview of the significant changes that architectural thinking has undergone in the past fifteen years
Includes an analysis of where architecture stands and where it will likely move in the coming years

Stormwater Effects Handbook: A Toolbox for Watershed Managers, Scientists, and Engine
Posted by: asim99 - 01-04-2013, 09:05 PM - Forum: Water & Hydraulic Engineering - No Replies

Stormwater Effects Handbook: A Toolbox for Watershed Managers, Scientists, and Engineers

Author: G. Allen Burton Jr. , Robert Pitt | Size: 141 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: CRC Press | Year: 2001 | pages: 928 | ISBN: 9780873719247

A stand-alone working document, Stormwater Effects Handbook: A Toolbox for Watershed Managers, Scientists, and Engineers assists scientists and regulators in determining when stormwater runoff causes adverse effects in receiving waters. This complicated task requires an integrated assessment approach that focuses on sampling before, during, and after storms. The Handbook supplies assessment strategies, sample testing and collection methods, and includes illustrative figures and tables.
The authors introduce an innovative design that can be tailored to address a wide range of environmental concerns, such as: ecological and human health risk assessments, water quality or biological criteria exceedences, use impairment, source identification, trend analysis, determination of best management practices, stormwater quality monitoring for NPDES Phase I and II permits and applications, and total maximum daily load assessments. They provide case studies to illustrate the effectiveness of this approach and the data that can be compiled.
Containing reviews of emerging technologies that hold promise for more effective receiving water evaluations, this book gives you detailed information on selecting methods and carrying out comprehensive evaluations. It includes guidance for the experimental design measurements, as well as standard and advanced statistical methods for data evaluations. Despite the complexity of stormwater management, successful and accurate assessments of their impact are possible by following the integrated approaches described in Stormwater Effects Handbook: A Toolbox for Watershed Managers, Scientists, and Engineers.

Lab equipement for loading and measurement
Posted by: Grunf - 01-04-2013, 07:55 PM - Forum: Free Discussion - No Replies

Dear members,

I'm looking for laboratory equipment that will be used for loading and measuring during the dynamical testing of structures and soil.

I'd appreciate much any information regarding the web sites of manufacturers/ producers of such equipment and any information about (approximate) price of e.g.:

  • bender element
  • pore pressure transducers
  • accelerometers
  • strain gauges
  • load cells
  • displacement transducers
  • other apparatuses/instruments needed to connect above-mentioned to a computer

Which manufacturer/producer of such equipment is fair in prices and provides good equipment?

I will be grateful for any help you can provide.

With regards,
Grunf

Pedestrian Dynamics: Mathematical Theory and Evacuation Control
Posted by: shadabg - 01-04-2013, 12:31 PM - Forum: Traffic Engineering - Replies (1)

Pedestrian Dynamics: Mathematical Theory and Evacuation Control

Author: Pushkin Kachroo | Size: 1.6 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: CRC Press | Year: 2009 | pages: 169 | ISBN: 1439805199, 9781439805190

Homeland security, transportation, and city planning depend upon well-designed evacuation routes. You can’t wait until the day of to realize your plan won’t work. Designing successful evacuation plans requires an in-depth understanding of models and control designs for the problems of traffic flow, construction and road closures, and the intangible human factors.

Pedestrian Dynamics: Mathematical Theory and Evacuation Control clearly delineates the derivation of mathematical models for pedestrian dynamics and how to use them to design feedback controls for evacuations.

The book includes:

Mathematical models derived from basic principles
Mathematical analysis of the model
Details of past work
MATLAB® code
65 figures and 400 equations

Unlike most works on traffic flow, this book examines the development of optimal methods to effectively control and improve pedestrian traffic flow. The work of a leading expert, it examines the differential equations applied to conservation laws encountered in the study of pedestrian dynamics and evacuation control problem. The author presents new pedestrian traffic models for multi-directional flow in two dimensions. He considers a range of control models in various simulations, including relaxed models and those concerned with direction and magnitude velocity commands. He also addresses questions of time, cost, and scalability. The book clearly demonstrates what the future challenges are and provides the tools to meet them.
