Pedestrian Dynamics: Mathematical Theory and Evacuation Control
Posted by: shadabg - 01-04-2013, 12:31 PM - Forum: Traffic Engineering - Replies (1)

Pedestrian Dynamics: Mathematical Theory and Evacuation Control

Author: Pushkin Kachroo | Size: 1.6 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: CRC Press | Year: 2009 | pages: 169 | ISBN: 1439805199, 9781439805190

Homeland security, transportation, and city planning depend upon well-designed evacuation routes. You can’t wait until the day of to realize your plan won’t work. Designing successful evacuation plans requires an in-depth understanding of models and control designs for the problems of traffic flow, construction and road closures, and the intangible human factors.

Pedestrian Dynamics: Mathematical Theory and Evacuation Control clearly delineates the derivation of mathematical models for pedestrian dynamics and how to use them to design feedback controls for evacuations.

The book includes:

Mathematical models derived from basic principles
Mathematical analysis of the model
Details of past work
MATLAB® code
65 figures and 400 equations

Unlike most works on traffic flow, this book examines the development of optimal methods to effectively control and improve pedestrian traffic flow. The work of a leading expert, it examines the differential equations applied to conservation laws encountered in the study of pedestrian dynamics and evacuation control problem. The author presents new pedestrian traffic models for multi-directional flow in two dimensions. He considers a range of control models in various simulations, including relaxed models and those concerned with direction and magnitude velocity commands. He also addresses questions of time, cost, and scalability. The book clearly demonstrates what the future challenges are and provides the tools to meet them.

A-Z guide to soil/plant/microbe-based wastewater treatment

Engineers and planners eager to benefit from the cost efficiencies and convenience of land treatment of waste will find practical guidelines in this comprehensive manual. It covers soil hydraulics, vegetation selection, site selection, field investigations, preapplication treatment and storage, and transmission and distribution of wastewater.

You're introduced to:

~ Design procedures and appropriate uses for each of the three land treatment processes: soils, plants, and microbiological agents
~ Special attributes of food processing wastewater, with 6 case studies
~ The use of biosolids produced by mechanical treatment systems as crop nutrients
~ Options for preapplication treatment, including ponds and constructed wetlands
~ Much more

Improvement on the Tower Testing Methodology [ CIGRE PAPER]
Posted by: apocalipse - 01-03-2013, 01:21 PM - Forum: Archive - No Replies

Dear members,
I need this paper from CIGRE:

Improvement on the Tower Testing Methodology

Abstract:
For a long time, new tower designs have been validated by loading tests. IEC 60652, Loading Tests on Overhead LineStructures, was first published in 1979 to standardize and provide guidance for performing Tests. After some years of practical experience with that standard, WG B2.08 decided to review its application. With this objective two questionnaires were circulated. A summary of the answers and the relevant conclusions are shown in the TB

From game theory to the Gambler’s ruin this book has classical mathematics well explained. The section on permutations and multinomials is still a valuable reference after all these years! But it is the application of permutation groups to island marriage laws that make this book a mathematical classic! How close a relative can you marry without endangering the gene pool while maximizing the number of people in your tribe that you can marry… a practical problem set to a primitive culture produced mathematical solutions!

Dear members,
I need this paper:

Software aids for a tower testing station

Author:
N. Jayaram* and S. J. Mohan'

Synopsis:
A software system called as TOWTEST has been developed to help in the various aspects of tower testing operations such as stub setting, tower rigging and control channel settings. The software helps in designing a loading scheme wherein hydraulic rams are employed to apply loads, on different points of a tower, by the resultant load-application method. The software also helps in making necessary, presettmgs of the control system consisting of custom built control channels with recorders to monitor load cell, angle cell, and hydraulic ram operations. The software produces tabular statements and rigging drawings, which serve as ready reckoner during various stages of tower test operations starting right from the test tower erection

Hello,
My name is Ross and I am one of the senior members of the profession in Australia with 40+ years experience.
I am a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia and the managing director of a small to medium sized consulting engineering firm with structures as our core function.
Personally I have two passionate interests the first being modular building technology as a future direction for the building construction industry internationally and the second the role of Engineering as a profession to solve some of the worlds major issues. The one close to my heart is the provision of shelter (housing) and associated infrastructure to the worlds 2 + billion people that live in substandard cnditions.
