This account of the theory of plates and shells is written primarily as a textbook for graduate students in mechanical and civil engineering. The unified treatment of shells of arbitrary shape is accomplished by tensor analysis. This useful tool is introduced in the first chapter, and no knowledge of advanced mathematical methods is required. The general theory developed in the first eight chapters is applied in the remaining part to thin elastic plates and shells with special emphasis on engineering methods and engineering applications. A number of detailed examples illustrate the theory.

Seismic behavior of box girder cable-stayed bridges considering large deformations
Author: Halabian, Amir M.; Keshtegar, Behrouz; Hashemolhosseini, S. Hamid | Size: 440 KB | Format:PDF | Quality:Unspecified | Publisher: NISEE e-Library | Year: 2007 | pages: 9
The main purpose of this study is to consider large deformations of the deck in response of long-span cable-stayed bridges during seismic excitations taking into account both kinds of geometric and material non-linearities. A 3D finite element model was developed. Large deformation beam elements with very low bending stiffness were used to model main supporting cables. The orthotropic deck was represented in the model with large deformation shell elements. Non-linear time history analyses using explicit approach were performed for a practical cable-stayed bridge subjected to different ground excitations considering ground motion spatial variation. In a parametric study the effects of the spatial variation in ground motions and cables’ post-tensioned forces on seismic response of the structure were examined. Results of time history analyses indicated that neglecting large deformations could lead one to overestimate the stiffness of the deck in some areas.

Vulnerability, Uncertainty, and Risk: Analysis, Modeling, and Management
Author: Bilal M. Ayyub | Size: 40.1 MB | Format:PDF | Quality:Unspecified | Publisher: American Society of Civil Engineers | Year: 2011 | pages: 1004 | ISBN: 9780784411704
Proceedings of the International Conference on Vulnerability and Risk Analysis and Management (ICVRAM 2011) and the International Symposium on Uncertainty Modeling and Analysis (ISUMA 2011), held in Hyattsville, Maryland, April 11-13, 2011. Sponsored by the Council on Disaster Risk Management of ASCE. This collection contains 120 peer-reviewed papers that build upon recent significant advances in the modeling, analysis, and management of risk, vulnerability, and uncertainty. Yet, even as advancements are made in technology, new hazards appear. These papers demonstrate the transformation of intellectual discussions into robust frameworks for handling emerging vulnerabilities and risks and providing analytical bases to prepare for national and international disasters

In this revised second edition, Elements of Plasticity continues to bridge the gap between classical theory and modern computational techniques and does so by focusing on the most important elements of theory and computation using matrix notation. Some complementary aspects of creep and viscoplasticity are considered and a number of applications from engineering practice are used to demonstrate the use of computational techniques. Practicing engineers, consultants and graduate students from civil, mechanical, automotive and aerospace engineering will find this revised edition indispensable.

The most common terminals for tankers are sea islands and piers; however, many other shipboard operations such as mooring at Single Point Moorings (SPM's), Multi-Buoy Moorings (MBM's), emergency towing, barge mooring, tug handling, anchoring, canal transit may fall into the category of mooring and thus require specialized equipment or fittings.
