The Architecture Reference & Specification Book: Everything Architects Need to Know Every Day

Author(s)/Editor(s): Dan Wheeler, Julia McMorrough | Size: 53 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: Rockport Publishers | Year: 2013 | pages: 272 | ISBN: 1592538487

Most architectural standards references contain thousands of pages of details—overwhelmingly more than architects need to know to know on any given day. The Architecture Reference & Specification Book contains vital information that's essential to planning and executing architectural projects of all shapes and sizes, in a format that is small enough to carry anywhere. It distills the data provided in standard architectural volumes and is an easy-to-use reference for the most indispensable—and most requested—types of architectural information.

The Conservation Movement: A History of Architectural Preservation: Antiquity to Mode

The Conservation Movement: A History of Architectural Preservation: Antiquity to Modernity

Author(s)/Editor(s): Miles Glendinning | Size: 11.2 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: Routledge | Year: 2013 | pages: 544 | ISBN: 0415499992, 0415543223

Shortlisted for the 2014 SAHGB Alice Davis Hitchcock Medallion.

In many cities across the world, particularly in Europe, old buildings form a prominent part of the built environment, and we often take it for granted that their contribution is intrinsically positive. How has that widely-shared belief come about, and is its continued general acceptance inevitable?

Certainly, ancient structures have long been treated with care and reverence in many societies, including classical Rome and Greece. But only in modern Europe and America, in the last two centuries, has this care been elaborated and energised into a forceful, dynamic ideology: a ‘Conservation Movement’, infused with a sense of historical destiny and loss, that paradoxically shared many of the characteristics of Enlightenment modernity. The close inter-relationship between conservation and modern civilisation was most dramatically heightened in periods of war or social upheaval, beginning with the French Revolution, and rising to a tragic climax in the 20th-century age of totalitarian extremism; more recently the troubled relationship of ‘heritage’ and global commercialism has become dominant.

Miles Glendinning’s new book authoritatively presents, for the first time, the entire history of this architectural Conservation Movement, and traces its dramatic fluctuations in ideas and popularity, ending by questioning whether its recent international ascendancy can last indefinitely.

The World's Greenest Buildings: Promise Versus Performance in Sustainable Design

Author(s)/Editor(s): Jerry Yudelson and Ulf Meyer | Size: 8 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: Routledge | Year: 2013 | pages: 288 | ISBN: 0415606292

The World’s Greenest Buildings tackles an audacious task. Among the thousands of green buildings out there, which are the best, and how do we know?

Authors Jerry Yudelson and Ulf Meyer examined hundreds of the highest-rated large green buildings from around the world and asked their owners to supply one simple thing: actual performance data, to demonstrate their claims to sustainable operations.

This pivotal book presents:

an overview of the rating systems and shows "best in class" building performance in North America, Europe, the Middle East, India, China, Australia and the Asia-Pacific region

practical examples of best practices for greening both new and existing buildings

a practical reference for how green buildings actually perform at the highest level, one that takes you step-by-step through many different design solutions

a wealth of exemplary case studies of successful green building projects using actual performance data from which to learn

interviews with architects, engineers, building owners and developers and industry experts, to provide added insight into the greening process

This guide uncovers some of the pitfalls that lie ahead for sustainable design, and points the way toward much faster progress in the decade ahead.

Problem Solving in Foundation Engineering using foundationPro

Author(s)/Editor(s): Mohammad Yamin | Size: 8.6 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: Springer | Year: 2016 | pages: 320 | ISBN: 3319176498

Maximizes reader understanding of the basic principles of foundation engineering: shallow foundations on homogeneous soils, single piles, single drilled shafts and mechanically stabilized earth walls (MSE)
Examines bearing capacity and settlement analyses of shallow foundations considering varying elastic moduli of soil and foundation rigidity, piles and drilled shafts
Examines internal and external stabilities of mechanically stabilized earth walls with varying horizontal spacing between reinforcing strips with depth
Summarizes the step-by-step procedure needed to solve foundation engineering problems in an easy and systematic way including all necessary equations and charts
Provides many newly developed equations to increase the accuracy of readers’ calculations and decrease unnecessary interpolations and impreciseness in obtaining design parameters from published charts
Explains the foundation Pro software, allowing the instructors to develop a wide range of design examples with solutions and students to carry out their projects and assignments and the practicing professional engineers to preform design projects

From the Back Cover
This book is at once a supplement to traditional foundation engineering textbooks and an independent problem-solving learning tool. The book is written primarily for university students majoring in civil or construction engineering taking foundation analysis and design courses to encourage them to solve design problems. Its main aim is to stimulate problem solving capability and foster self-directed learning. It also explains the use of the foundationPro software, available at no cost, and includes a set of foundation engineering applications. Taking a unique approach, Dr. Yamin summarizes the general step-by-step procedure to solve various foundation engineering problems, illustrates traditional applications of these steps with longhand solutions, and presents the foundationPro solutions. The special structure of the book allows it to be used in undergraduate and graduate foundation design and analysis courses in civil and construction engineering. The book stands as valuable resource for students, faculty, and practicing professional engineers.

  Suggestion
Posted by: hodzicemir - 09-17-2015, 10:59 AM - Forum: Archive - Replies (1)

There is a lot of good books in other languages than english. An I quess that tere is a lot of users who know more than english language. So my suggestion is to open one forum with name "foreigne books" so that anyone can upload links for books related to civil engineering other than english language.
