This core textbook brings together for the first time the technical, legal, social and philosophical issues under the umbrella of architectural technology.
Part 1 covers the influences that affect the way we build - the environmental agenda, the human factors, buildability, time and costs. Part 2 takes the reader through the life of a typical building project - from briefing, through design and assembly, to use and eventual disassembly. Part 3 tackles some of the underlying issues facing the architectural technologist - from the communication of details to technological innovation.
Architectural Technolgy bridges the knowledge gap between design and construction, enabling the architectural technologist to apply their unique skill in a creative and innovative way.
"As a textbook aimed at those studying for membership of BIAT this is clearly very thorough and has the recommendation of their Vice President Education. However, it can also justifiably earn its place on the bookshelf of anybody involved in the construction process as a reference and to aid an understanding of others he/she will be working with to develop an environment of which to be proud." Building Engineer, July 2002

Commercial trade fairs, brand experiences, themed attractions, world expositions, museum galleries, visitor centers, historic houses, landscape interpretation and art installation are all areas that can be categorized under the broad umbrella term of ‘exhibition’. Millions of people visit exhibitions of one sort or another every year and globally it is a multi-billion dollar industry. Basics Interior Design: Exhibition Design offers a better understanding of the complexity of exhibition design as a discipline, by exploring the role of the exhibition designer as a creative practitioner. It considers the blurring of borders with other design disciplines, but interior, graphic design and marketing in particular.Supported by case study examples and practical in nature, this book offers a guide on how to approach the design of the narrative.

Listen in on any conversation about architecture these days and you will almost certainly hear the buzzword of early-twenty-first century building—sustainability. But just how sustainable must a building be to earn that sought-after designation? How must architects reconsider the entire design process to achieve this important goal? Taking sustainability to the next level, the emerging practice of integrated design provides the strategies to achieve high performance, low energy, and cost-effectiveness, through careful ground-up consideration of how the program, siting, design, materials, systems, and products of a building connect, interact, and affect one another. This approach eschews specialists working in isolation in favor of solutions that are greater than the sum of their parts.
Integrated Design in Contemporary Architecture takes a comprehensive look at projects that exemplify current approaches to this exciting new field. From museums to residences, from office buildings to universities and yoga centers, this book showcases twenty-eight examples of integrated design that cut across building types, budgets, climates, and locales. Drawings, diagrams, and photographs illustrate how the many disciplines involved in the building process work together to create sustainable spaces that acknowledge architecture's critical role in our shared global community, economy, and ecosystem.

Seismic inversion aims to reconstruct a quantitative model of the Earth subsurface, by solving an inverse problem based on seismic measurements. There are at least three fundamental issues to be solved simultaneously: non-linearity, non-uniqueness, and instability. This book covers the basic theory and techniques used in seismic inversion, corresponding to these three issues, emphasising the physical interpretation of theoretical concepts and practical solutions. This book is written for master and doctoral students who need to understand the mathematical tools and the engineering aspects of the inverse problem needed to obtain geophysically meaningful solutions. Building on the basic theory of linear inverse problems, the methodologies of seismic inversion are explained in detail, including ray-impedance inversion and waveform tomography etc. The application methodologies are categorised into convolutional and wave-equation based groups. This systematic presentation simplifies the subject and enables an in-depth understanding of seismic inversion. This book also provides a practical guide to reservoir geophysicists who are attempting quantitative reservoir characterisation based on seismic data. Philosophically, the seismic inverse problem allows for a range of possible solutions, but the techniques described herein enable geophysicists to exclude models that cannot satisfy the available data. This book summarises the author’s extensive experience in both industry and academia and includes innovative techniques not previously published.
