Slope stability analysis and stabilization: new methods and insight
By YM Cheng
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
Number Of Pages: 241
Publication Date: 2008-07-25
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0415421721
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780415421720
A number of methods currently exist for the analysis and design of slopes. This book provides a critical review of these and offers several more appropriate approaches for overcoming numerical convergence and the location of critical failure surfaces in two-dimensional and three-dimensional cases. New concepts in three-dimensional stability analysis, finite element analysis and the extension of slope stability problems to lateral earth pressure problems are also addressed. It gives helpful practical advice and design resources in the form of recommendations for good analysis and design practice, design charts and tables for the engineer. Limitations are detailed of both limit equilibrium and the finite element method in the assessment of the stability of a slope, and guidance is provided for assessing the fundamental assumptions and limitations of stability analysis methods and computer modelling. The book provides ample examples to illustrate how this range of problems should be dealt with. The final chapter touches on design and its implementation on site. The emphasis is on the transfer of the design to its physical implementation on site in a holistic way, taking full account of the latest developments in construction technology. Engineering and construction problems tend to be pigeonholed into different classes of problem such as slope stability, bearing capacity and earth pressure behind retaining structures. This is quite unnecessary. This book offers a unified approach, which is conceptually, practically and philosophically more satisfying.

Elementary Behaviour of Composite Steel and Concrete Structural Members
info:
Elementary Behaviour of Composite Steel and Concrete Structural Members
By Deric Oehlers, Mark A. Bradford
Publisher: Butterworth-Heinemann
Number Of Pages: 280
Publication Date: 2000-02-14
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0750632690
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780750632690
This book is aimed at developing elementary analysis skills, familiarity and an intuitive feel for composite construction that is required by undergraduate and graduate students, and by structural engineers. It does not require a prior knowledge of advanced analysis and design techniques, and builds on simple concepts such as statics and the mechanics of materials. A topic is first introduced by a brief description, with numerous carefully-chosen examples forming an integral part of the main text. Working through the examples allows the reader to gain a full understanding of the subject, as a technique is illustrated by its application to designing new structures, or in the important area of assessing and upgrading existing structures.
The techniques described for the analysis of standard structures form a basis for understanding the way composite structures work, and these techniques are applied to many non-standard forms of composite construction that are not, or rarely, covered in national standards. The book is an essential purchase for all undergraduate and postgraduate students of structural/civil engineering and architecture, as well as all practising structural and civil engineers.
Covers practical applications not covered in codes, such as service ducts, splitting, upgrading existing structures and non-standard forms of composite construction
Topics are embellished by working through numerous unique and carefully-chosen examples that form an integral part of the subject material
Not orientated to specific codes, so that principles can be applied to any national design standard

(1) Cracks from our VIP forums are published at other sites. I saw our PERFORM 3D crack published at another site. VIP members shall be requested not to publish that.
(2) TENTEASTE has contributed two great cracks to the forum : SAP2000 V14 and STRAP 2009. Some other cr**rs are downloading this cracks from our forum and publishing it with their names. I think this really discourage him.
I request ADMIN and MODERATORS to allot VIP or equivalent post to TENTEASTE, seeing his contribution to our forum. If he is able to put his contribution in VIP section, outsiders may not misuse it. ADMIN and MOderators may decide to put his contribution to general forum if they wish.
Plz note i am not favouring anyone, but i tell what i feel is better to our forum. FInal decision will be of our ADMIN and MOderators.
1. I've noticed that some people (even I perhaps) on the forum write nonsense. They are posting unnecessary thanks and they constantly offtopic and spam. It's great for someone to know that he/she/it is doing something great but it's frustrating to read a thread full of thanks until you get to something that is useful to you. If there are positive reputations, why there are no negative, BUT that kind of negative reputation, which gives only the administrators and moderators in a way to delete useless posts and write a negative reputation, and explanation for it. So, for example, 10 negative reputation follows bann or some kind of warning to the member (even if that member is I). I think that's the only way that people learn to read the forum rules and stick to them.
If anybody wants to say thanks/ excellent/ good_posting/ have_a_great_day/ etc., please use the THANKS button.
2. Same thing on writing not_english. I understand (not every thing) when someone write on spanish but why write spanish or other language when everybody write english. My mother tongue is croatian and i'm not good in english, but if I can use some of Internet dictionaries if I can't remember some of words so can others. Try google translate, eudict, etc. Google is your friend!
(If extremely needed i would try my best to translate this post to any other language just to be understood by all others no_english_understanding_people) ;):D
3. Just one more request (if possible) - is there a way to delete/ remove empty pages in threads? For example in the thread

Product Description:
The ESIS-Technical Committee 9 on Concrete was established in 1990 and has met seven times. A proposal was put to European and extra-European laboratories entitled "Scale effects and transitional failure phenomena of reinforced concrete beams in flexure" which lead to several positive responses.
The central topic discussed by the committee was that of the minimum reinforcement in concrete members. The minimum amount of reinforcement is defined as that for which "peak load at first concrete cracking" and "ultimate load after steel yielding" are equal. In this way, any brittle behaviour is avoided as well as any localized failure, if the member is not over-reinforced. In other words, there is a reinforcement percentage range, depending on the size-scale, within which the plastic limit analysis may be applied with its static and kinematic theorems.
Carpinteri, Ferro, Bosco and El-Katieb propose a LEFM model, according to which reinforcement reactions are applied directly on the crack surfaces and a compatibility condition is locally imposed on the crack opening displacement in correspondence with the reinforcement. The theoretical model is found to provide a satisfactory estimate of the minimum percentage of reinforcement that depends on the scale and enables the element in flexure to prevent brittle failure.

Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures (SDSS’99)
info:
Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures (SDSS’99)
By D. Dubina, M. Ivanyi
Publisher: Elsevier Science
Number Of Pages: 648
Publication Date: 1999-08-01
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0080430163
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780080430164
With the gradual development of rules for designing against instability the idea emerged, in London, in 1974 to hold an International Colloquium treating every aspect of structural instability of steel structures.
There have been 17 International Colloquia Stability Sessions around the world, starting with the first one in Paris in 1972, until with the last one in Nagoya in 1997. In Nagoya it was decided to continue the series of travelling colloquia by launching the Sixth Colloquium in September 1999 with the First Session to be held at the “Politehnica” University of Timişoara, Rom??nia, which will be followed by another in the year 2000 at the Gediminas Technical University in Vilnius, Lithuania, a third one during SSRC’s Year 2000 Annual Meeting in the US, and a fourth one in Australia or New Zealand.
At present important research projects are in progress around the world, like SAC Joint Venture Project in USA, INCO-COPERNICUS “RECOS” in Europe and others, which are devoted to improve and develop new methods for the safety design of steel structures in seismic zones. Special attention is paid in Europe, USA and Japan to improve the design codes and detailing of seismic resistant steel structures.
This was the reason to organise the Session of Nagoya as “Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures” Colloquium. Romania is also a strong seismic territory and therefore, the topic of the Timişoara Session covered both stability and ductility problems. The technical programme of the SDSS’99 Colloquium in Timişoara has been split into nine working sessions.
