Vibration of Mindlin Plates: Programming the p-Version Ritz Method
info:
K.M. Liew, Y. Xiang, S. Kitipornchai, C.M. Wang
Elsevier Science; 1st edition (November 24, 1998) | English | 0080433413 | 212 pages | PDF | 6.19 MB
Over the last several years, the four authors have jointly conducted research into the analysis of vibrating Mindlin plates as a collaborative project between Nanyang Technological University, The National University of Singapore, and The University of Queensland. The research was prompted by the fact that there is a dearth of vibration results for Mindlin plates when compared to classical thin plate solutions. To generate the vibration results, the authors have successfully employed the Ritz method for general plate shapes and boundary conditions. The Ritz method, once thought to be awkward for general plate analysis, can be automated through suitable trial functions (for displacements) that satisfy the geometric plate boundary conditions a priori. This work has been well-received by academics and researchers, as indicated by the continual requests for the authors' papers and the Ritz software codes. This monograph is written with the view to share this so-called p-Ritz method for the vibration analysis of Mindlin plates and its software codes with the research community. To the authors' knowledge, the monograph contains the first published Ritz plate software codes of its kind.

Alluvial fans are among the most prominent landscape features in the American Southwest and throughout the semi-arid and arid regions of the world.
The importance of developing a qualitative and quantitative understanding of the hydraulic processes which formed, and which continue to modify, these features derives from their rapid and significant development over the past four decades.
As unplanned urban sprawl has moved from valley floors onto alluvial fans, the serious damage incurred from infrequent flow events has dramatically increased.
This book presents a concise, coherent discussion of our current and rapidly expanding knowledge of hydraulic processes on alluvial fans.
It addresses the subject from a multidisciplinary viewpoint, acquainting the geologist with engineering principles, and the civil engineer and planner with geological principles pertinent to the analysis of hydraulic processes on alluvial fans.

Hydraulics in Civil and Environmental Engineering : Solutions manual
info:
Taylor & Francis | August 9, 2004 | ISBN-10: 0415306094 | 680 pages | PDF | 3.2 mb
It is carefully structured into two parts to deal with principles before moving on to more advanced topics. The first part focuses on fundamentals, including hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, pipe and open channel flow, wave theory, hydrology and sediment transport. The second part illustrates the engineering applications of these fundamental principles to pipeline system design, hydraulic structures, river and coastal engineering, including up-to-date environmental implications and a chapter on computational modelling, illustrating the application of computational simulationtechniques to modern design, in a variety of contexts.
