Taiwan, China’s renegade province, wanted to make the world sit up and notice it – so it built the planet’s tallest skyscraper, Taipei 101, in its capital city. An architectural meeting of East meets West, Taiwan’s biggest global advertising board and symbol of achievement was a defiant gesture towards its neighbouring superpower, and a calculated quest for Taiwanese commercial attention proving that in modern times, the super-tall building is more than just the corporation HQ of the past. But does having the tag of the tallest guarantee success? And why isn’t there a host of other skyscrapers in this city like its competitor over the water, Shanghai? Presented by Matt Berman.

1180Peachtree is a striking icon on the Atlanta skyline, its huge fins making it distinct from other skyscrapers in the city. But it’s not all about good looks - 1180 is creating a new era for the city’s towers.

Back in the 1980s, when crime and racial tension were rife in the city, architects designed skyscrapers that existed independently of street life, connecting to parking and shopping malls with skybridges that made sidewalks completely redundant. 1180 is opening its doors to the streets and the public, helping to breathe life back into the street culture of this once lifeless city. Presented by Matt Berman.

  Which FEA Software
Posted by: Ultra Zone - 10-16-2009, 05:08 PM - Forum: Free Discussion - Replies (8)

Hi everyone.

I want to learn to use some software of general finite element analysis (fea). I'm a user of CSi products and other structural softwares, but sometimes I need to model some kind of particular steel connection, the sap2000 is a good software but will be so difficult if you want to model some conditions of weldings, bolts or plates. For example in a steel shape, if you put a plate on the flange, you joint them with weldings on the edge of the plate, but sap2000 joint them between the surface in contact, that's no real.

I want to someone reccomend me a software that will be better for my case, for example: Ansys, Abaqus, Cosmos, Catia, etc.
I don't want to use the best software of fea, I wish to use a software for my needs.

Thanks in advance.

). In addition, extensive web resources are provided at the end of every text chapter.. . .

Summary: Construction equipment and methods
Rating: 4

The text book is an excellent resource for my upcoming professional engineer's exam. I would recommend this text book for potential professional engineers getting ready to take the professional engineer's exam

Summary: Decent
Rating: 3

This book was alright. Some illustrations, decent descriptions. Some of the problems were too in depth. It would be alright for some just starting out in construction or someone who just wants to learn a little about it.

Summary: We speak English&use the Metric System in the rest of the World
Rating: 2

We speak English & use the Metric System in the rest of the World.

When will American publishers discover this ?

This book requires me to convert every single worked example to the units used by the rest of the world.

I suggest that they publish the worked examples on a CD with book using the units that he rest of the world use !!!

Summary: Caveat Emptor
Rating: 1

The second chapter is the nuts and bolts of financing equipment. The numbers are commonly wrong. There are WAY to many mistakes. This is a textbook for a heavy equipment class. It's the third week of the semester (Fresno State) and we're dying...

Summary: No attention to detail
Rating: 1

This book had so many errors, the entire class including the instructor were confused. It is very sad to see a textbook in its fifth or sixth edition with so many mistakes. Many of the questions at the end of the chapter are so poorly written, that there was no solution. Clearly, the authors had a goal and a message to convey, but because there was no attention to detail, the message was muddy at best. I remain disenchanted with the general quality of textbooks, but this is one of the worst examples of a textbook I have ever seen. Come on America, educate!

Megastructures - Hoover Dam

Throughout human history, mankind has built monuments to its ingenuity and skill. In Egypt it was the Pyramids. Rome, built the Colosseum. The Greeks built the Acropolis. The great cathedrals of Europe raised the skills of their builders to unequalled heights, creating awe inspiring structures. In the Americas, the cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde and the high mountain city of Machu Pichu speak to the skill and ingenuity of their builders. In the modern era, it's buildings that reach near half a mile into the sky, bridges that stretch enormous distances in a single span, and machines that extend mankind's reach far into space. One monument that must surely be counted among the great achievements of mankind is Hoover Dam.
