Environmental Fluid Mechanics by Hillel Rubin
Publisher: CRC Press | August 17, 2001 | ISBN: 0824787811 | Pages: 752 | PDF | 9.23 MB

Environmental Fluid Mechanics provides comprehensive coverage of a combination of basic fluid principles and their application in a number of different situations, exploring fluid motions on the earth's surface, underground, and in oceans. The authors detail the use of physical and numerical models and modern computational approaches for the analysis of environmental processes. They cover novel scaling methods for a variety of environmental issues, equations of motion for boundary layers, the advection diffusion equation, sediment and associated contaminant transport in lakes and streams, mixed layer modeling in lakes, remediation, transport processes at the air/water interface, and more.

  Structural Wood Design: A Practice-Oriented Approach - Abi Aghayere, Jason Vigil

Structural Wood Design: A Practice-Oriented Approach

[Image: wood.jpg]

To fully understand structural design in wood, it is not sufficient to consider the individual components in isolation. Structural Wood Design: A Practice-Oriented Approach Using the ASD Method offers an integrative approach to structural wood design that considers the design of the individual wood members in the context of the complete wood structure so that all of the structural components and connectors work together in providing strength. Holistic, practical, and code-based, this text provides the reader with knowledge of all the essentials of structural wood design:

Wood structural elements and systems that occur in wood structures

Structural loads—dead, live, snow, wind, and seismic—and how to calculate loads acting on typical wood structures
Glued-laminated lumber and allowable stresses for sawn lumber and Glulam
The design and analysis of joists and girders
Floor vibrations
The design of wood members subjected to axial and bending loads
Roof and floor sheathing and horizontal diaphrams
Exterior wall sheathing and wood shear walls
The design of connections and how to use the connection capacity tables in the NDS code
Several easy-to-use design aids for the preliminary sizing of joists, studs, and columns

Elements of Wavelets for Engineers and Scientists by Dwight F. Mix
Publisher: Wiley-Interscience | September 8, 2003 | ISBN: 0471466174 | Pages: 256 | DJVU | 6.2 MB

Elements of Wavelets for Engineers and Scientists is a guide to wavelets for "the rest of us"-practicing engineers and scientists, nonmathematicians who want to understand and apply such tools as fast Fourier and wavelet transforms. It is carefully designed to help professionals in nonmathematical fields comprehend this very mathematically sophisticated topic and be prepared for further study on a more mathematically rigorous level.
Detailed discussions, worked-out examples, drawings, and drill problems provide step-by-step guidance on fundamental concepts such as vector spaces, metric, norm, inner product, basis, dimension, biorthogonality, and matrices.

Chapters explore . . .
* Functions and transforms
* The sampling theorem
* Multirate processing
* The fast Fourier transform
* The wavelet transform
* QMF filters
* Practical wavelets and filters
. . . as well as many new wavelet applications-image compression, turbulence, and pattern recognition, for instance-that have resulted from recent synergies in fields such as quantum physics and seismic geology.
Elements of Wavelets for Engineers and Scientists is a must for every practicing engineer, scientist, computer programmer, and student needing a practical, top-to-bottom grasp of wavelets.

Computer Analysis & Reinforced Concrete Design of Beams

[Image: castruc.jpg?w=249]

This project deals with the creation of a computer application that analyzes and designs structural beams. The project also aims at emphasizing the importance of computers in the solution of everyday engineering problems (but not engineering economy ebook).
The program developed analyzes one, two and three-span beams and includes a module for the design of reinforced concrete beams. This program was created using the relatively new Actionscript language.

In most countries, the road network constitutes one of the largest community assets and is predominately government-owned. Road administrations must maintain, operate, improve, replace and preserve this asset while, at the same time, carefully managing the scarce financial and human resources needed to achieve these objectives.

Advanced Finite Element Method in Structural Engineering systematically introduces the research work on the Finite Element Method (FEM), which was completed by Prof. Yu-qiu Long and his research group in the
past 25 years. Seven original theoretical achievements - for instance, the Generalized Conforming Element method, to name one - and their applications in the fields of structural engineering and computational mechanics are discussed in detail. The book also shows the new strategies for avoiding five difficulties that exist in traditional FEM (shear-locking problem of thick plate elements; sensitivity problem to mesh distortion; non-convergence problem of non-conforming elements; accuracy loss problem of stress solutions by displacement-based elements; stress singular point problem) by utilizing foregoing achievements

Product Description:

Many countries and cities are located in earthquake-prone areas, and effective seismic design has been long been a major issue in structural engineering. Reassuringly, structural response control and seismic isolation have advanced remarkably in recent years following numerous studies internationally. Several major conferences have been held and reports have been written but little has been issued on the application of the technologies to good structural engineering practice. This state of the art report from an internationally-based task group (TG44) of CIB, the international council of building research organizations, presents a highly authoritative guide to the application of innovative technologies on response control and seismic isolation of buildings to practice worldwide.

* ISBN-13 / EAN: 9789058096920

Product Description:
The lightweight treated soil method (LWTS) is a newly developed construction technique within the area of coastal soft ground engineering. In this groundbreaking book, experts Tsuchida and Egashira demonstrate that by using the LWTS method in a soft ground area, the consolidation settlement and the gravity impact of heavy structures can directly be decreased. Based on extensive research and experience, the text offers expert information for dealing with soft ground in the areas of geotechnical and construction engineering. The properties, design and construction techniques of the LWTS method are treated and a number of case studies is presented to illustrate this method in practice.
