I have a query regarding orientation of columns in buildings how does it influence the design. Does orientation of column is essential?. And how do you guys initially decide the column sizes?

i sure this section will be hottest & most useful section of CivilEA.

i`m trying to prepare standard drafting procedures for structure & architecture drafters in our company.
this standard include all things that a drafter must be follow for draw a drawing by atuocad. lincluded:

- how sections, details, views, ... numbering or drawn.
- standard title block
- standards layer & color
- what thing a drawing must be have? (north, key plan, refference,....)
- ....

this document help us to produce nice & same drawing even with different draftes.

I need some similar document, book to provide our standard base on it .

anyone have a document or book like this?

Just a thought that states my attitude to structural engineering and civil engineering

There are two ways to study a natural problem: they are the purely scientific and engineer way. The way of pure science is only interested in getting the truth. The structural engineering is therefore the art of using materials whose properties can only be estimated, to build real structures, which can only be approximately analyzed in order to resist the actions that are not sufficiently known, so that our responsibility to public safety is met.
In short, if an individual has five minutes to solve a problem whose life depends on its resolution, the same individual should spend three minutes to study and understand the problem and two minutes to solve it. "
