Smart Materials and Technologies in Architecture By Michelle Addington, Daniel L. Schodek
Publisher: Architectural Press 2004
256 Pages | PDF | 4 MB
ISBN: 0750662255

".seeks to give architects and designers a better understanding of some of the breathtaking new technologies becoming available so that they can be applied to the best advantage. Addington and Schodek, both professors in the Harvard Design School's architecture department, want to make sure that these technologies are designed into buildings in a thoughtful way. Indeed, they spent 10 years researching and writing the book. The presentation is tailored to design professionals and includes equations and a fair amount of technical detail,
but the authors don't get so far into the nitty-gritty as to go beyond what designers need to know. Smart Materials and Technologies fills a void in the literature and may help a great many designers and architects develop buildings that are more useful to an even greater number of occupants."

Geomembranes and the Control of Expansive Soils by Malcolm Steinberg

Product Description
A wealth of practical information on designing geomembranes to control expansive soils in a broad range of construction and environmental applications

Written by a leading international expert in the field, this book fully explains when and where geomembranes can be used effectively--and discusses expansive soil conditions and problems as well as control solutions. You will find descriptions of geotechnical membrane placement methods, plus information on costs and durability; and worldwide case studies of buildings, highways, roads, airports, canals, pipelines, railroads, and landfills -- all with solutions to expansive soil problems.this book is the first place engineers, architects, and construction professionals should turn for authoritative geomembrane answers.

About the Author
Malcolm Steinberg , P.E., is an internationally recognized lecturer and expert on expansive soils. The director of an El Paso consulting firm that specializes in soils and foundation engineering, he also directs the American Society of Chemical Engineers' District 15.   Building with Earth Design and Technology of a Sustainable Architecture

Building with Earth Design and Technology of a Sustainable Architecture

ISBN-13: 9783764374778
ISBN-10: 3764374772
200 pages

Written in response to an increasing worldwide interest in building with earth, this handbook deals with earth as a building material, and provides a survey of all of its applications and construction techniques, including the relevant physical data, while explaining its specific qualities and the possibilities of optimising them. No theoretical treatise, however, can substitute for practical experience involving actually building with earth. The data and experiences and the specific realisations of earth construction contained in this volume may be used as guidelines for a variety of construction processes and possible applications by engineers, architects, entrepreneurs, craftsmen and public policy-makers who find themselves attempting, either from desire or necessity, to come to terms with humanity’s oldest building material.
Earth as a building material comes in a thousand different compositions, and can be variously processed. Loam, or clayey soil, as it is referred to scientifically, has different names when used in various applications, for instance rammed earth, soil blocks, mud bricks or adobe.

LIQUEFACTION POTENTIAL OF COHESIONLESS SOILS

Published by NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
Date: April 2007
Pages: 80

ABSTRACT
This report provides basic knowledge about liquefaction of cohesionless soils under seismic loading. Presented also are the most widely accepted methods for evaluating the liquefaction potential of cohesionless oils in level ground, for estimating earthquake-induced settlements and for analyzing slope stability against flow slides. Sample problems to demonstrate each design procedure are included in the appendices.
A brief review is presented of the seismicity of New York State, the level of which can be characterized as moderate. The State historically has experienced earthquakes up to a magnitude of 6.0. Earthquakes of this magnitude can cause structural and ground failures from liquefaction. Liquefaction-induced failure types and factors affecting liquefaction susceptibility are also reviewed.
Finally, methods for improving in-situ soil conditions to reduce liquefaction susceptibility are discussed.

Author: David Stephenson
Publisher: Elsevier Science Pub. Co. in Amsterdam, New York (Jan 1976) | PDF | 232 pages | 7.7 MB
Language English
Quality: High

Product Description:
"... the book is at its best in the design and analysis sections and could stand on these alone as a well-stocked handbook with copious references for further study," commented the Journal of the National Water Council after publication of an earlier edition of Pipeline Design for Water Engineers.
This classic monograph has been revised and updated to take account of new developments in the field. Recent research in cavitation and flow control has prompted additional sections to be added. There are also new sections on supports to exposed pipes and secondary stress. Additional references and a new layout make up this edition. Some sections appearing in previous editions, noteably on pipe network systems analysis and optimization have been ommitted as they were considered more appropriate in the author's parallel book ``Pipeflow Analysis'' (Developments in Water Science, 19).

simitses, George; Hodges, Dewey H, «Fundamentals of Structural Stability» , Butterworth-Heinemann | 379 pages | ISBN-13 9780750678759 | ISBN-10 0750678755 | PDF | 2005 |16 Mb

The ability of a structural assembly to carry loads and forces determines how stable it will be over time. Viewing structural assemblages as comprising columns, beams, arches, rings, and plates, this book will introduce the student to both a classical and advanced understanding of the mechanical behavior of such structural systems under load and how modeling the resulting strains can predict the overall future performance-the stability-of that structure. While covering traditional beam theory, the book is more focused on elastica theory in keeping with modern approaches. This text will be an expanded and updated version a similar, previously published book, but with pedagogical improvements and updated analytical methods.

This engineering textbook will provide a focused treatment on the study of how structures behave and perform when under stress loading, including plastic deformation and buckling. All advanced engineering students studying engineering mechanics, structural analysis and design, fatigue and failure, and other related subjects need to have this knowledge, and this book will provide it in a thorough and coherent fashion. Written by two of the world's leading engineering professors in this subject area, the pedagogy has been classroom-tested over many years and should find a receptive readership among both students and instructors.

* An understandable introduction to the theory of structural stability, useful for a wide variety of engineering disciplines, including mechanical, civil and aerospace engineering
* Covers both static and dynamic loads, for both conservative and nonconservative systems
* Emphasizes elastic behavior under loads, including vertical buckling, torsional buckling and nonlinear affects of structural system buckling and stability
* Case examples to illustrate real-world applications of Stability Theory

Regarding search result

Dear friends,

When we search for something, the results which we get are indicated in the yellow background which makes the search word invisible like the one screenshot which I took (which is only to show as example). I just wanted to say that it would be better if it can be changed to some other light color so that the search word is also clearly visible. Just as a suggestion I am sorry I really don't know if its a valid suggestion.
