BCSA has recently published a design guide which explains the Eurocode load combinations for steel structures based on the recommendations given in BS EN 1990 ‘Eurocode - Basis of Structural Design’ and BS EN 1991 ‘Eurocode 1 – Actions on Structures’. The design guide is called ‘Eurocode Load Combinations for Steel Structures’. The principal aim of this publication is to provide the reader with straightforward guidance on the loading and load combinations for both the serviceability and ultimate limit states for the following building types:
- Multi-storey buildings – Simple construction
- Multi-storey buildings – Continuous construction
- Portal frames without cranes
- Portal frames with cranes

Superabsorbent Polymers — An Additive to Increase the Freeze-Thaw Resistance of High Strength Concrete
Author: Sven Mönnig, Pietro Lura | Size: 0.28 MB | Format:PDF | Quality:Original preprint | Publisher: Advances in Construction Materials 2007, Part V, | Year: 2007 | pages: 351-358
This paper presents the results of freeze thaw resistance tests performed on a reference mixture and a mixture with superabsorbent polymer (SAP) addition. The SAP mixture showed 40% less scaling than the reference mixture and a slight increase of the compressive strength. A simulation performed with the Hard Core Soft Shell model (HCSS) explains the good performance of the SAP mixture with the formation of a number of small, spherical and closely-spaced voids within the cement paste, which have the same function as air entrainment.

As with the best-selling 'Architects Pocket Book' this title includes everyday information which the architect/designer normally has to find from a wide variety of sources and which is not always easily to hand.
Focusing on kitchen design, this book is of use to the student as well as the experienced practitioner. It outlines all the information needed to design a workable kitchen, including ergonomics, services such as water and waste, appliances, and material choices for the floor, walls and ceiling. There is no similar compendium currently available.
* Gathers together essential, useful and practical information for both the student and practicing architect
* An easy to use reference for both the drawing board, and on site
* Provides comprehensive design guidance on the latest products

Construction Contracting: A Practical Guide to Company Management
Author: S. Keoki Sears, Glenn A. Sears, Richard H. Clough | Size: ? MB | Format:PDF | Quality:Unspecified | Publisher: Wiley; 7 edition (March 21, 2005) | Year: 2005 | pages: 656 | ISBN: 0471449881
The industry's leading professional reference for four decades--fully revised and updated
Construction Contracting remains a bestseller in the construction industry forty years after its first publication. A cornerstone of the construction professional's library, this text presents the hard-to-find information essential to successfully managing a construction business, and applies to building, heavy civil, high-tech, and industrial construction endeavors alike.
This new Seventh Edition features important changes in construction insurance, tax law, labor law, and bonding and surety. It includes:
* Contemporary contracting methods such as design/build and best value/competitive negotiation
* Computer assisted estimating, project accounting, scheduling, and document control
* Emerging technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
* Critical updates to standard construction contracts, including the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), and the Design Build Institute of America (DBIA)
Construction Contracting also features expanded coverage of such basics as business ownership and company organization, cost estimating, bidding procedures and strategies, project time and cost management, labor relations, and project safety.
This edition incorporates many special features, including new and updated contracting forms, the latest Construction Industry Arbitration Rules, a companion Web site, and a CD-ROM containing a complete library of forms from the AIA, AGC, and Engineers Joint Contract Documents Committee.
Construction Contracting, Seventh Edition is a complete working resource for the construction professional in the field or office and an indispensable preparatory tool for students.

Earthquake engineering research has been expanding as more and more data become available from a large array of seismic instruments, large scale experiments and numerical simulations.
The first part of this book presents results from some of the current seismic research work including three-dimensional wave propagation in different soil media, seismic loss assessment, probabilistic hazard analysis, geotechnical problems including soil-structure interaction.
The second part of the book focuses on the seismic behavior of structures including historical and monumental structures, bridge embankments, and different types of bridges and bearings.
