Australia Steel Institute Handbook 1: Design of structural steel connections. Background and theory
Author: Hogan, T. J. and Munter, S. A. | Size: 3 MB | Format:PDF | Quality:Scanner | Publisher: Australian Steel Institute | Year: 2007-12-01 | pages: 125 | ISBN: 9780909945947
This handbook sets out to explain the provisions of section 9 of AS 4100-1998 and then to expand on these provisions by developing general 'design aids' or 'tools' which can be applied to a variety of connection design situations.
Handbook 1 contains formulations in accordance with AS 4100-1998 for the assessment of bolts, bolt groups loaded by in-plane design actions, bolt groups loaded by out-of-plane design actions, welds, weld groups loaded by both in-plane and out-of-plane design actions, connection components, supported members (coped and uncoped members) and supporting members.

Design capacity tables for structural steel, vol. 1: Open sections
Author: Australian Steel Institute | Size: 12 MB | Format:PDF | Quality:Scanner | Publisher: Australian Steel Institute | Year: 2009-10-07 | pages: 286 | ISBN: 9781921476204
This design aid to the limit states standard AS 4100-1998 considers open type hot-rolled sections and standard open sections manufactured from hot-rolled plate. Data includes among others: dimensions and section properties, design section capacities, values for fire design, design capacities for members subject to bending, shear , bearing, axial compression, axial tension and combined actions. This new edition was published in October 2009 and updates the third edition of 1999.
The second printing of this edition includes the technical revision of September 2010 to Part 13 Crane runway beams and monorail beams.

Design capacity tables for structural steel, vol. 3: Simple connections - Open sections
Author: Hogan, T.J. and Munter, S.A. | Size: 2 MB | Format:PDF | Quality:Scanner | Publisher: Australian Steel Institute | Year: 2007-12-01 | pages: 75 | ISBN: 9780980401585
This consolidates all the design capacity tables contained in the individual simple connection design guides into one volume for easy reference and comparison. These tables aim to replace the simple connections section of AISC Standardised Structural Connections (3rd edition, 1985) and also provide typical details for web side plate, flexible end plate and angle cleat connections.
The capacity tables have been developed for selected connection configurations covering: steel grade, connection components such as plates or cleats, welds, bolts, hole geometry, bolt pitches and bolt gauges.
For a selected connection configuration, most design calculations are eliminated using the tables except for design checks which relate to the supporting member or general frame design. Information on the design model used for each connection can be found in the relevant design guide for that connection.

Author: Australian Steel Institute | Size: 43 MB | Format:PDF | Quality:Scanner | Publisher: Australian Steel Institute | Year: 1999-01-01 | pages: 198 | ISBN: 0909945799
The purpose of this handbook is to provide sufficient information for a trainee structural steel detailer to learn the fundamentals of how to detail most members and connections in a simple steel-framed building.
The text includes a general section on computer aided drafting but is basically written from the viewpoint of traditional manual drafting. Some engineering fundamentals are included to help in understanding the procedures.

Daylighting, Architecture and Health examines the relationship between natural light in buildings and human health, considering both psychological and physiological issues and bringing together a range of research in the field.
As we are becoming increasingly conscious of global warming and pushing towards energy efficiency in buildings, the book examines the question of daylighting from the perspective of the health of building occupants. It gathers and reviews all the latest and pertinent medical and architectural research related to natural light, or lack thereof, and its effect on people.
* Documents medical research findings which establish a link between light quality and health
* Considers design strategies for increasing daylight in buildings
* Develops understanding and awareness of the importance of natural light in buildings
Daylighting, Architecture and Health: Building Design Strategies is a timely and essential text for professional architects and all others concerned with the effects of daylighting on health, architecture and building design.
* Outlines appropriate design strategies for increasing daylight in buildings
* Demonstrates a link between light quality and health and explains the importance of natural light in buildings
* Brings together the latest medical and architectural research on this important topic

Daylighting offers a general theory and introduction to the use of natural light in architecture.
The fourth of Derek Phillip's lighting books draws on his experience to illustrate how best to bring natural light into building design. As sustainability becomes a core principal for designers, daylighting comes to the fore as an alternative to artificial, energy consuming, light. Here, Phillips makes a rational argument for considering daylight first, outlining the arguments in favour of a daylight approach, and goes on to show, through a series of
beautifully illustrated case studies, how architects have created buildings in which natural light has been shown to play a major strategic role in the development of the design of a building.
