Introduction to the Mechanics of Deformable Solids: Bars and Beams
Posted by: cace-01 - 02-09-2014, 08:46 AM - Forum: Mechanics & Material Technology (Elasticity, Plasticity and Nonlinearity) - Replies (1)

Introduction to the Mechanics of Deformable Solids: Bars and Beams

Author: David H. Allen | Size: 7 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: Springer | Year: 2013 | pages: 324 | ISBN: 1461440025

Introduction to the Mechanics of Deformable Solids: Bars and Beams introduces the theory of beams and bars, including axial, torsion, and bending loading and analysis of bars that are subjected to combined loadings, including resulting complex stress states using Mohr’s circle. The book provides failure analysis based on maximum stress criteria and introduces design using models developed in the text. Throughout the book, the author emphasizes fundamentals, including consistent mathematical notation. The author also presents the fundamentals of the mechanics of solids in such a way that the beginning student is able to progress directly to a follow-up course that utilizes two- and three-dimensional finite element codes imbedded within modern software packages for structural design purposes. As such, excessive details included in the previous generation of textbooks on the subject are obviated due to their obsolescence with the availability of today’s finite element software packages. This book also:
Features a highly visual pedagogy that emphasizes how visual representation of models leads to mathematical models
Pays careful attention to the history of mechanics and includes a historical chapter
Includes a separate chapter on structural design
Maintains congruity of notation and approach to all mechanics models
Features 200 illustrations
Introduction to the Mechanics of Deformable Solids: Bars and Beams is an ideal book for undergraduate students taking their first course in mechanics of solids.

  Concrete Structures for Wind Turbines
Posted by: Badis - 02-09-2014, 07:23 AM - Forum: Concrete - Replies (1)

Concrete Structures for Wind Turbines

Author: Jurgen Grunberg, Joachim Gohlmann | Size: 4.00 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: Wiley | Year: 2013 | pages: 232 | ISBN: 978-3-433-03041-7

The wind energy industry in Germany has an excellent global standing when it comes to the development and construction of wind turbines. Germany currently represents the world's largest market for wind energy. The ongoing development of ever more powerful wind turbines plus additional requirements for the design and construction of their offshore foundation structures exceeds the actual experiences gained so far in the various disciplines concerned.
This book gives a comprehensive overview for planning and structural design analysis of reinforced concrete and pre-stressed concrete wind turbine towers for both, onshore and offshore wind turbines. Wind turbines represent structures subjected to highly dynamic loading patterns. Therefore, for the design of load bearing structures, fatigue effects - and not just maximum loads - are extremely important, in particular in the connections and joints of concrete and hybrid structures. There multi-axial stress conditions occur which so far are not covered by the design codes. The specific actions, the nonlinear behaviour and modeling for the structural analysis are explained. Design and verification with a focus on fatigue are addressed. The chapter Manufacturing includes hybrid structures, segmental construction of pre-stressed concrete towers and offshore wind turbine foundations.
