This guide includes a short history of and information on the basic design and operation of equipment, frequently called mobile mixers, used to produce concrete by volumetric measurement and continuous mixing (VMCM). Definitions, applications, and quality assurance testing are discussed. The use of this equipment is compared with weigh-batch-mixing equipment to highlight some of the limited differences.

BS 8102 gives recommendations and provides guidance on methods of dealing with and preventing the entry of water from surrounding ground into a structure below ground level.
It covers the use of:
a) Waterproofing barrier materials applied to the structure
b) Structurally integral watertight construction
c) Drained cavity construction.
It also covers the evaluation of groundwater conditions, risk assessment and options for drainage outside the structure. It applies to structures which extend below ground level and those on sloping sites.
BS 8102 does not give recommendations on the use of embedded heating in structures, floors and walls or for the special requirements in connection with the design and construction of cold stores.
BS 8102:2009 replaces BS 8102:1990, which is now withdrawn. This is a full revision of the standard, and includes the following changes:
a) A number of recent developments are addressed, which are important when specifying, designing and constructing below ground structures, including:
1) More deep construction in congested urban areas
2) An increase in the provision of residential basements
3) Development and use of new materials for waterproofing
b) A more detailed assessment is provided of the risks in below ground construction and how these might best be addressed.

An Engineer's Guide to Mathematica enables the reader to attain the skills to create Mathematica 9 programs that solve a wide range of engineering problems and that display the results with annotated graphics. This book can be used to learn Mathematica, as a companion to engineering texts, and also as a reference for obtaining numerical and symbolic solutions to a wide range of engineering topics. The material is presented in an engineering context and the creation of interactive graphics is emphasized.
The first part of the book introduces Mathematica's syntax and commands useful in solving engineering problems. Tables are used extensively to illustrate families of commands and the effects that different options have on their output. From these tables, one can easily determine which options will satisfy one's current needs. The order of the material is introduced so that the engineering applicability of the examples increases as one progresses through the chapters. The second part of the book obtains solutions to representative classes of problems in a wide range of engineering specialties. Here, the majority of the solutions are presented as interactive graphics so that the results can be explored parametrically.
Key features:
Material is based on Mathematica 9
Presents over 85 examples on a wide range of engineering topics, including vibrations, controls, fluids, heat transfer, structures, statistics, engineering mathematics, and optimization
Each chapter contains a summary table of the Mathematica commands used for ease of reference
Includes a table of applications summarizing all of the engineering examples presented.
Accompanied by a website containing Mathematica notebooks of all the numbered examples
An Engineer's Guide to Mathematica is a must-have reference for practitioners, and graduate and undergraduate students who want to learn how to solve engineering problems with Mathematica.
Mathematica 10 update is included. Updated material includes:
- Creating regions and volumes of arbitrary shape and determining their properties: arc length, area, centroid, and area moment of inertia
- Performing integrations, solving equations, and determining the maximum and minimum values over regions of arbitrary shape
- Solving numerically a class of linear second order partial differential equations in regions of arbitrary shape using finite elements

Rock Fall Engineering describes first, the theoretical background to rock fall behavior in terms of the impact and trajectory phases of rock falls, and second, how this information is applied to modeling of rock falls and the design of ditches, fences and sheds. The theory of rock fall behavior is verified by comparing the calculations with five carefully documented case studies.
The book covers four main topics as follows:
•Describes causes of rock falls, including geology, climate and topography, and provides detailed documentation on rock fall impacts and trajectories at five sites with a wide variety of topographic and geologic features
•Discusses theory of impact mechanics, and its application to velocity and energy changes during impacts and trajectories
•Reviews methods of modeling rock fall events, and presents analyses for the five case studies
•Examines rock fall protection in terms of selecting appropriate method(s) for site conditions, and design principles in which the objective is to absorb impact energy in an efficient manner
This book, which contains many worked examples, is of interest to practitioners and researchers working in the fields of geological engineering and natural hazards.
