  Rock Fall Engineering

Rock Fall Engineering

Author: Duncan C. Wyllie | Size: 13 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: CRC Press; 1 edition | Year: September 24, 2014 | pages: 270 | ISBN: 978-1482219975

[Image: 89222806151936117703.jpg]

[Image: info.png]

Rock Fall Engineering describes first, the theoretical background to rock fall behavior in terms of the impact and trajectory phases of rock falls, and second, how this information is applied to modeling of rock falls and the design of ditches, fences and sheds. The theory of rock fall behavior is verified by comparing the calculations with five carefully documented case studies.

The book covers four main topics as follows:

•Describes causes of rock falls, including geology, climate and topography, and provides detailed documentation on rock fall impacts and trajectories at five sites with a wide variety of topographic and geologic features
•Discusses theory of impact mechanics, and its application to velocity and energy changes during impacts and trajectories
•Reviews methods of modeling rock fall events, and presents analyses for the five case studies
•Examines rock fall protection in terms of selecting appropriate method(s) for site conditions, and design principles in which the objective is to absorb impact energy in an efficient manner

This book, which contains many worked examples, is of interest to practitioners and researchers working in the fields of geological engineering and natural hazards.

  Water Flow In Soils

Water Flow In Soils

Author: Tsuyoshi Miyazaki | Size: 6.67 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: Taylor&Francis Group | Year: 2006 | pages: 435

[Image: b9c8ee1518c98e856b2b785cb4047b34-d.jpg]

[Image: info.png]

The new edition of a bestseller, Water Flow in Soils bridges the fields of soil physics-where descriptions of water flow tend to be microscopic- and hydrology - where they tend to be macroscopic. Unlike other physics laden texts, this work conveys the fundamental concepts of water flow in soils with clear and essentially nonmathematical explanations. Using abundant illustrations, figures, and equations, the author introduces soil water flow, taking both a phenomenological and analytical approach. He elegantly elucidates the basic and advanced principles of water movement in soils.

ASCE - Failure Case Studies in Civil Engineering

Author: Edited by Paul A. Bosela, Ph.D., P.E.; Pamalee A. Brady, Ph.D., P.E.; Norbert J. Delatte, Ph.D., P.E.; and M. Kevin Parfitt, P.E. | Size: 3.88 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: ASCE | Year: 2012 | pages: 155 | ISBN: 9780784477038

[Image: 10643946096341163041.png]

[Image: info.png]

Description

Sponsored by the Technical Council on Forensic Engineering of ASCE.

Failure Case Studies in Civil Engineering: Structures, Foundations, and the Geoenvironment, Second Edition, provides short descriptions of 50 real-world examples of constructed works that did not perform as intended. Designed for classroom use, each case study contains a brief summary, lessons learned, and references to key sources. This new edition, which replaces the 1995 classic edited by Robin Shepherd and J. David Frost, offers expanded descriptions, additional photographs and diagrams, and updated references. It also includes new case studies, such as the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, the Charles de Gaulle Airport Terminal, and the North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Water Treatment Plant.

Topics include:

foundation failures;
embankment, dam, and slope failures;
geoenvironmental failures;
bridge failures; and
building failures.

This book supplies valuable resource material on typical failures that can be integrated into undergraduate engineering courses. Engineering professors and their students will use this book as the basis for class discussions, a starting point for further research, and a demonstration of how each failure leads to improved engineering design and safety.

  What is the point of this board?
Posted by: AtoZmail - 03-20-2015, 03:45 PM - Forum: Free Discussion - Replies (8)

I see posts about job advice, software modeling, buying random electronics but I write a post asking about the Civil PE Exam and it gets deleted. What the fuck is the point of this?

So I see an announcement that says
"Free discussion is not for engineering subjects" but the forum link is dead in the topic so essentially you have a civil engineering forum where you can't actually discuss engineering topics....yet there's these topics:
Recommanded VGA for Common Cilvil Engineering Software
Unasaturated soil mechanics - from where to start
Is Scia Engineer a complete software for a Structural Engineer?
Engineers Day in INDIA.

Those aren't engineering subjects?
