Learn Project Management on time and under budget! "Project Management Demystified" is valuable for both the novice project manager and the experienced. For the novice, it is a great way to understand PM basics in an easy-to-understand and practical way. Personalized stories demonstrate both what to do and what not to do. Experienced project managers will find 'gems' spread throughout the text to take away to improve their results. - Lee Krevat, IT Director, Business Strategic Alignment, Sempra Energy (A Fortune 500 company). Mr. Kemp truly demystifies project management, connecting the how and the why. Students and managers alike will gain both skills and confidence. - Malcolm Ryder, Principal and Chief Strategy Officer, Renovance, L.L.P. (An IT management consulting firm).Written in straightforward language, "Project Management Demystified" will help you gain "instant expertise" in project management - even if you have no previous formal training in executive skills. The author, who has trained thousands of first-time managers and team leaders, uses a host of powerful techniques to help you soak up what you really need to know. With "Project Management Demystified", you master the subject one simple step at a time - at your own speed. Unlike most books on project management, general principles are presented first - and the details follow. In order to make the learning process clear, simple, and useful, "Project Management Demystified" offers questions at the end of each chapter to pinpoint weaknesses, and case studies throughout the book to reinforce the entire process of project management. This unique, self-teaching guide shows you how to: Transform a good idea into a smooth-flowing project; Ensure project delivery with the "Six Keys to Success"; Turn disorganized "to-do" lists into effective action plans; Master people-management and team-building skills; Analyze design, development, budgeting, and scheduling; Calm the "storm period" - the transition to production; Bring your project in on time and under budget; Gain practical management skills you can use again and again; Build your "Project for Learning" and use reviews to retain information; and much, much more! If you're looking for mastery of essential PM skills, let "Project Management Demystified" be your shortcut!

  Delay Analysis in Construction Contracts

Delay Analysis in Construction Contracts

info:
Delay Analysis in Construction Contracts
P. John Keane, Anthony F. Caletka,
Wiley-Blackwell (September 22, 2008)
English
1405156546
288 pages
PDF 2.93 MB

The most significant unanticipated costs on many construction projects are the financial impacts associated with delay and disruption to the works. Assessing these, and establishing a causal link from each delay event to its effect, contractual liability and the damages experienced as a direct result of each event, can be difficult and complex.
This book is a practical guide to the process of delay analysis and includes an in-depth review of the primary methods of delay analysis, together with the assumptions that underlie the precise calculations required in any quantitative delay analysis. The techniques discussed can be used on projects of any size, under all forms of construction contract, both domestic and international.
The authors discuss not only delay analysis techniques, but also their appropriateness under given circumstances, demonstrating how combined approaches may be applied where necessary. They also consider problematic issues including 'who owns the float', concurrent delay, early completion programmes, and disruption. The book, which is well illustrated, features practical worked examples and case studies demonstrating the techniques commonly used by experienced practitioners.
This is an invaluable resource to contractors, architects, engineers, surveyors, programmers and delay analysts, and will also be of interest to clients' professional advisors managing extension of time or delay claims, as well as construction lawyers who require a better understanding of the underlying assumptions on which many quantitative delay analyses are based.

Dongyuan Zhao, Shilun Qiu, Yi Tang, Chengzhong Yu "Recent Progress in Mesostructured Materials"
Elsevier Science | 2007-06-04 | ISBN : 044452178X | Pages: 956 | PDF | 96.95 MB

Authorized by International Mesostructured Material Association (IMMA) and hosted by the Fudan University, China. The scope of this involved field covers both traditional inorganic mesostructured molecular sieves and mesostructured materials like organic polymers, metals, organic-inorganic nanocomposites, and ordered mesoporous carbons, the hot topics in chemistry, crystallization, structure, liquid crystalline, catalysis and materials science. This symposium provided a forum for the presentation of the most novel development and knowledge in the science and technology of mesostructured materials. Papers presented cover a wide range of topics that include synthesis, structure determination, characterisation, modelling, and application in catalysis, adsorption, biochemistry and advanced material sciences.

MECHANICS OF COMPOSITE STRUCTURES by Kollar & Spinger

MECHANICS OF COMPOSITE STRUCTURES by Kollar & Spinger

info:
An increase in the use of composite materials in many areas of engineering has led to a
greater demand for engineers versed in the design of structures made from such materials. Although numerous books offer introductions to composites, few demonstrate advanced concepts or emphasize structures. This book addresses that need by offering students and engineers tools for designing practical composite structures.
The Focus is on (fiber-reinforced composites composed of fibers embedded in a matrix. Among the topics of interest to the designer are stress-strain relationships for a wide range of anisotropic materials: tending buckling, and vibration of plates: bending, torsion, buckling, and vibration of solid as well as thin-walled beams: sheik: hygrothermal stresses and strains: finite element formulation; and failure criteria. The emphasis is on analyses that lead to methods applicable to a variety of structural design problems. The expressions
resulting from the analyses are either readily usable or can be translated into a computer algorithm. More than 300 illustrations. 50 fully worked problems, and material properties data sets are included. Some knowledge of composites, differential equations, and matrix algebra is lielpful bin not necessary, tor the book is self-contained.
This book will be of great practical use to graduate students, researchers, and practicing engineers seeking to acquire advanced knowledge of the mechanics of composites and of the applications of composite materials,
Laszlo P. Kollar is Professor in the Department of Architecture at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. George S. Springer is Paul Pigott Professor of Engineering in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics.Stanford University.
