Large Deflection Inelastic Analysis of Space Trusses Using Generalized Displacement Control Method

info:
This paper presents the large deflection inelastic analysis of space truss structures including both geometric and material nonlinearities. The geometric nonlinearity is considered based on an updated Lagrangian formulation, while the material nonlinearity is accounted for by tracing a complete stress-strain relationship in the elastoplastic range. The nonlinear equilibrium equations are solved using an incremental-iterative scheme based on the generalized displacement control method. This algorithm can accurately trace the equilibrium path of nonlinear problems with multiple limit points and snap-back points. A computer program is developed to predict the inelastic post-buckling behavior of space trusses. Numerical results obtained from the developed program are compared with those reported in the literature to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed procedure.

Solar Energy: Renewable Energy and the Environment

info:

Robert Foster, James Witcher, Vaughn Nelson, "Solar Energy: Renewable Energy and the Environment"
CRC 2009 | ISBN-10: 1420075667 | 382 Pages | PDF | 6,7 MB

Drawing on the authors’ extensive research and project implementation around the globe, Solar Energy: Renewable Energy and the Environment covers solar energy resources, thermal and photovoltaic systems, and the economics involved in using solar energy. It provides background theory on solar energy as well as useful technical information for implementing solar energy applications.

The book details the strengths, weaknesses, and applications of solar power generation technologies. It discusses the design and implementation of often-overlooked solar technologies, such as solar water pumping, distillation, detoxification, refrigeration, and village power. The text also examines photovoltaic power and how it is best suited for remote-site applications with small to moderate power requirements. Examples, real-world case studies, and lessons learned from technical failures illustrate how to best implement solar energy projects.

The time for clean energy solutions is here. Only through energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies can modern civilization extricate itself from the gathering perfect energy storm. Focusing on one of the keys to lessen the potentially harmful impacts of the storm, this book discusses how to increase energy production from a clean energy source—the sun.

Project Management for Telecommunications Managers
Publisher: Springer | ISBN: 1402077289 | edition 2003 | PDF | 295 pages | 11,41 mb

This book is a concise reference work covering important aspects of project management. It explains many key concepts, in layman's terms, for engineering managers, project managers and other professionals working in the telecommunications environment. This presentation is consistent with many of the processes recommended by the certification body for project managers, the Project Management Institute, however, the material expands on the guide by elaborating on the application of the processes in telecommunications projects. The book covers concepts and applications applicable to all telecommunications related areas. Tools for planning, organizing, tracking and managing projects are provided. The author has also included actual examples of various telecommunications projects from wireline and wireless providers, equipment vendors and component manufacturers to illustrate concepts. Important information for working across departmental and functional units and various organizational structures are also included. This book is highly recommended for project managers and project team members who work on projects in the telecommunications environment.

Le Corbusier in Detail

info:
Architectural Press | 2007-08-27 | ISBN: 0750663545 | 264 pages | PDF | 9,2 MB

This is the first book to give such close attention to Le Corbusier's approach to the making of buildings. It illustrates the ways in which Le Corbusier's details were expressive of his overall philosophical intentions. It is not a construction book in the usual sense- rather it focusses on the meaning of detail, on the ways in which detail informs the overall architectural narrative of a building. Well illustrated and containing several specially prepared scaled drawings it acts as timely reminder to both students and architects of the possibilities inherent in the most small scale tectonic gestures. * Lavishly illustrated, with numerous in depth studies this book will be an inspiration to both students and architects
* This is the first book to illustrate Le Corbusier's philosophies through his use of detail
* So innovative was Le Corbusier's approach to design and so influential has he been on the current generation of architects that his work remains as relevant today as it ever did

Book Description:

Today, the spreadsheet is an essential tool for engineers. More than 20 years ago, Craig Christy started using a spreadsheet as a way of keeping notes. His practice has evolved into Engineering with the Spreadsheet, a valuable manual for engineers working with Excel. Christy first introduces basic spreadsheet techniques and more advanced applications that may be unfamiliar to even experienced spreadsheet users. He then applies Excel spreadsheets in preparing engineering calculations for an exhaust stack and an elevated storage tank. The book and CD-ROM present more than 50 actual templates in Microsoft Excel that demonstrate the techniques and specific applications for concrete, wind and seismic issues, foundation soil loading, the vortex shedding of tall stacks, and other engineering issues. Beneficial to professional engineers and college students alike, Engineering with the Spreadsheet is a comprehensive manual that structural engineers will use on their next! projects.

The use of modern composite materials in construction offers the structural engineer and designer exciting opportunities for all types of buildings and structures. By far the most commonly used and longest established composite material is the combined use of steel and concrete in the form known in most parts of the world as 'composite construction'.
Composite Construction takes a comprehensive look at recent developments in this fast growing area. With each chapter written by an acknowledged expert in the field, this book aims to link physical behaviour, engineering approximation, appropriately applied theoretical concepts and design approaches.
Composite Construction is not simply a code commentary, nor does it deal with topics purely in terms of developing theory from first principles. Rather, the emphasis is strongly placed on providing both the practising engineer and the student with an understanding of physical behaviour, and the intelligent application of this knowledge in practice

Description:

Internationally acclaimed as the definitive work of reference on the subject for both the professional and student engineer. The fourth edition has been completely rewritten and updated to reflect advances in concrete technology over the past decade, yet it still retains the original aim of Professor Neville's book: to provide reliable, comprehensive and practical information on the properties and use of concrete, and the selection of mix proportions, all based on scientific observations and the author's extensive engineering experience.
Since its first publication in 1963, Properties of Concrete has been internationally acclaimed as the definitive work of reference on the subject for both the professional and student engineer. The fourth edition has been completely rewritten and updated to reflect advances in concrete technology over the past decade, yet it still retains the original aim of Professor Neville’s book: to provide reliable, comprehensive and practical information on the properties and use of concrete, and the selection of mix proportions, all based on scientific observations and the author’s extensive engineering experience. The emphasis throughout is on understanding the behaviour of concrete and relating it to physical and chemical phenomena involved in the performance of the material in service. The overall effect is to give an integrated view of the properties of concrete so as to enable the reader to achieve the best possible construction in concrete. In addition, the scientific basis of the information provided is invaluable in planning research and in the interpretation of test results.

* new material includes such topics as various cementitious materials, high performance concrete, recently introduced admixtures, concrete under cryogenic conditions, properties of the aggregate-matrix interface, and durability of concrete under extreme conditions.
* incorporates a wealth of data from the latest relevant national and international standards and codes of practice
* both Sl and Imperial units are used throughout
* includes 1500 full references to the world’s literature on concrete
* an extensive index containing over 6000 entries provides excellent ease-of-reference.
