Discovery Channel - Extreme Engineering: Woodrow Wilson Bridge (2005)

One of America's most ambitious construction projects is currently underway on the outskirts of Washington, D.C. The 40-year-old Woodrow Wilson bridge, which carries drivers over the Potomac River while allowing boats to safely use the heavily trafficked water below, has proven inadequate for the demands of the 21st century. But, engineers have devised a solution: an updated, draw-span design that will accommodate increased traffic both above and below. Watch as the 2,000-ton bridge is shipped by barge from Florida to Maryland and carefully lifted into place, using precariously balanced strand jacks in the water. Then, see how workers install the massive concrete support piers – so huge that a special vehicle is commissioned to transport them to the site.

Portable Autodesk Alias SketchBook Pro

Free your creativity with Autodesk® SketchBook® Pro software. With a flick of the stylus, the industry’s strongest paint and drawing toolset is at your command. It features an artist-friendly, gesture-based user interface that is so fast and intuitive even new users can be productive within minutes. SketchBook Pro equips you with the tools you need to move easily from pen and paper to a digital environment.

Features:

Autodesk® SketchBook® Pro software is your digital sketchpad. Use it in any creative process where pen and paper would traditionally be used. SketchBook Pro features an artist-friendly, gesture-based interface that translates technology and functionality into a natural drawing experience. SketchBook Pro software is easy to use with fast, reactive drawing and productivity-enhancing tools that help you express your ideas freely and boost production.

Paint User Interface
The Sketchbook Pro user interface is designed around the flow and typical interactions of artists. UI elements include marking menus with one-flick access to major tools like colors, brushes, zoom, and pan; an interactive pan/zoom tool; and a floating tool that allows you to change the size of your brush as you work—without opening the brush editor.

Quality Brushes and Tools
Create nontraditional brushes to add texture to an image to extend the creative process beyond what is possible with traditional methods. Create and save your own brushes, erasers, airbrushes, or smear brushes. Vary the size, transparency, roundness, slant, and stamp spacing of your brushes. You can also specify your own image as the brush stamp to create custom texture brushes.

Annotation
Take snapshots of your current application and load and view images or digital photographs. Use SketchBook Pro’s brushes to mark up and add comments.

Email Integration
Integrated email lets you communicate more effectively by instantly emailing sketches and annotations to colleagues and clients. New email messages are created automatically in your default email program with the current image attached.

Interoperability with Adobe Photoshop
In addition to opening and saving common file formats such as TIF, BMP, JPG, and PNG, Sketchbook Pro supports the PSD format so you can interchange layered files with Adobe® Photoshop®.

Conference News section. Can it be renamed?
Posted by: Grunf - 02-23-2010, 08:11 AM - Forum: Archive - Replies (5)

Dear Admin and Moderators,

I have suggestion that section Conference News could be renamed into "Conference, Seminar and Education News" or something like that? From time to time I would like to post somewhere (in one place in the forum) some notifications, for example, about scholarships/ grants, summer schools, workshops, seminars for civile engineer students as well as for professionals in civil engineering. I'm getting a lot of informations/ notifications of that kind to my e-mail, so I would like to share them with others (if that's OK with you)?

Best regard, and thank you for your understanding.

Ecohydrology: Processes, Models and Case Studies

D. Harper, M. Zalewski, S. E. Jorgensen, N. Pacini,
CABI (December 30, 2008) | English | 1845930029 | 352 pages | PDF | 3.67 MB

Ecohydrology is an emerging new sub-discipline which links elements of ecology with hydrology at all points in the water cycle, ranging in scale from water-plant physiological relationships to whole catchment water-ecosystem processes. This book pays most attention to the larger scales of ecohydrology, emphasising the use of this tool in striving towards the goal of sustainable water management. Authors from Eastern as well as Western Europe; from America, Australia and South Africa, give a broad global context.
