Dynamic Programming Based Operation of Reservoirs: Applicability and Limits
Publisher: Cambridge University Press | ISBN: 0521874084 | edition 2007 | PDF | 144 pages | 12,6 mb

Dynamic programming is a method of solving multi-stage problems in which decisions at one stage become the conditions governing the succeeding stages. It can be applied to the management of water reservoirs, allowing them to be operated more efficiently. This is one of the few books dedicated solely to dynamic programming techniques used in reservoir management. It presents the applicability of these techniques and their limits on the operational analysis of reservoir systems. The dynamic programming models presented in this book have been applied to reservoir systems all over the world, helping the reader to appreciate the applicability and limits of these models. The book also includes a model for the operation of a reservoir during an emergency situation. This volume will be a valuable reference to researchers in hydrology, water resources and engineering, as well as professionals in reservoir management.

Finite element based fatigue calculations - Bishop and Sherratt

Fatigue analysis procedures for the design of modern structures rely on techniques, which have been developed over the last 100 years or so. Initially these techniques were relatively simple procedures, which compared measured constant amplitude stresses (from prototype tests) with material data from test coupons. These techniques have become progressively more sophisticated with the introduction of strain based techniques to deal with local plasticity effects. Nowadays, variable amplitude stress responses can be dealt with. Furthermore, techniques exist to predict how fast a crack will grow through a component, instead of the more limited capability to simply predict the time to failure.

Author : John bird
PDF : 4.83 Mb

This text will provide a foundation inmathematical principles, which will enable students to solve mathematical, scientific and associated engineering principles. In addition, the material will provide engineering applications and mathematical principles necessary for advancement onto a range of Incorporated Engineer degree profiles. It is widely recognised that a students’ ability to usemathematics is a key element in determining subsequent success. First year undergraduates who need some remedial mathematics will also find this book meets their needs.

Composite structures and products have developed tremendously since the publication of the first edition of this work in 1986. This new edition of the now classic 1986 text has been written to educate the engineering reader in the various aspects of mechanics for using composite materials in the design and analysis of composite structures and products. Areas dealt with include manufacture, micromechanical properties, structural design, joints and bonding and a much needed introduction to composite design philosophy. Each chapter is concluded by numerous problems suitable for home assignments or examination. A solution guide is available on request from the authors.
