Behaviour of Precast Concrete Floor Slabs Exposed to Standardised Fire

Behaviour of Precast Concrete Floor Slabs Exposed to Standardised Fire
by Gordon M E Cooke

Abstract
This paper quantifies the thermal movements of 14 simply supported precast reinforced concrete floor slabs of 4.5m span and 900mm width exposed to two standardised heating regimes used in fire resistance furnace tests. The tests were designed to show the effect of varying the slab thickness, type of concrete, imposed load, soffit protection and nature of fire exposure on the mid-span flexural deflection and axial movements of the slab ends. Measured deflections showed that during the 90 min design period of fire resistance thermal bowing was dominant and the effect of the 1.5 kN/m2 design imposed load was small. The NPD hydrocarbon fire exposure caused a doubling of the flexural deflections achieved using the standard BS 476: Part 8 (now Part 20) fire exposure in the first 20 min of exposure.

An Assess't of Repair& Strengthening Techniques for Brick& Stone Masonry Arch Bridges

An Assessment of Repair and Strengthening Techniques for Brick and Stone Masonry Arch Bridges
by D Ashurst

Abstract:
The problems and repair techniques studied were as follows: Problem: Arch ring with insufficient calculated capacity -- Repair techniques: reinforced concrete saddle; repointing; grouting; lining with sprayed concrete; prefabricated liner. Problem: Inadequate foundations -- Repair: mini-piles; underpinning with mass concrete; curtain walls may be combined with grouting and/or stitching of the piers or abutments; invert slabs. Problem: Outward movement of the spandrel walls - Repair: tie bars; and replacing some or all of the spandrel fill with concrete. The County Councils of England and Wales and the Regional Councils of Scotland were asked to provide examples of bridges which had been repaired using the techniques. A total of 180 examples were provided from which a sample of the fifty most suitable was identified for more detailed study. This report provides a useful guide to the effectiveness, the advantages and disadvantages, and the cost of the various repair and strengthening techniques available for masonry arch bridges.

Hi everyone,
I am looking for INFORMATION and EXAMPLES of how designing a two way slab using the Method 1 of the ACI-63.
I have the printed code of that year but I do not have solved examples.
I know that the reinforced concrete book of the Shaum series has an example but is not clear.

Txs in advance

Applied Structural Steel Design
Fourth edition - by Leonard Spiegel

Synopsis
Written specifically for the engineering technology/technician level, this book offers a straight-forward, elementary, noncalculus, practical problem-solving approach to the design, analysis, and detailing of structural steel members. Using numerous example problems and a step-by-step solution format, it focuses on the classical and traditional ASD (Allowable Stress Design) method of structural steel design (the method still most used today) and introduces the LRFD (Load and Resistance Factor Design) method (fast-becoming the method of choice for the future).

Introduction to Steel Structures. Tension Members. Axially Loaded Compression Members. Beams. Special Beams. Beam-Columns. Bolted Connections. Welded Connections. Open Web Steel Joists and Metal Deck. Continuous Construction and Plastic Design. Structural Steel Detailing: Beams. Structural Steel Detailing: Columns. LRFD: Structural Members. LRFD: Connections.

For technicians, technologists, engineers, and architects preparing for state licensing examinations for professional registration.

Booknews
A textbook for use in engineering technology programs, and usable by engineers and architects preparing for state professional examinations. It uses an elementary, non-calculus, practical approach to designing and analyzing structural steel members, with example problems and a step-by-step solution format. Earlier editions were published between 1986 and 1997. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Product Description
Textbook teaching traditional and novel methods of applied structural steel design, including the Allowable Stress Design and the Load Resistance Factor Design. Includes expanded coverage of plastic design, use of homework problems throughout, and the use of American and SI units. Previous edition: c1997. DLC: Building, Iron and Steel.

Post-Tensioned Slab Design Calculation

This document is a design example for a two-way post-tensioned flooring system, it introduces the hand calculations for a typical Post-tensioned slab.
This document is introduced by Professor Bijan O Aalami based on IBC 2003 and ACI 318-02.

It takes you through the ways of analysis and how to determine the design strips, and shows calculations in an easy detailed way so That the reader won't have a hard time understanding the Document.

Note: sorry for the bad presentation of the document due to the lack of my skills in Pdf format And how to join several pictures in one File, but eventually it's readable and beneficial .
