I would like to access another link to download the publication 'Advance Soil Mechanics - by Braja M. Das', fifth edition. There are blocking issues in downloading from the site that is provided. Thanks
This book covers the field of applied geotechnology related to all aspects of construction in ground, including compacted fill, excavations, ground improvement, foundations, earth retaining systems and geotechnical site characterization. It suits the first year of a graduate course on ground improvement and geoconstruction and will suit practicing engineers, both consultants and contractors.
Distinctively it covers the identification of problematic soils and appropriate mitigation measures, and the inspection of ground construction work. It combines the technical and the practical in applied geotechnology.

Seismic Isolation for Designers and Structural Engineers
Author(s)/Editor(s): R Ivan Skinner; William H Robinson; Trevor E Kelly; Robinson Seismic Ltd.; Holmes Consulting Group. | Size: 12.3 MB | Format:PDF | Quality:Unspecified | Publisher: Robinson Seismic Limited | Year: 2011 | pages: 350 | ISBN: 9788190613064
This book provides both theory and design aspects of seismic isolation. This will be useful for structural engineers and teachers of engineering courses. For other structural components (concrete frames, steel braces etc.) the engineering student is taught the theory (lateral loads, bending moments) but then also the design (how to select sizes, detail reinforcing, bolts). This book will do the same for seismic engineering. The book provides practical examples of computer applications as well as device design examples so that the structural engineer is able to do a preliminary design that won't specify impossible constraints. The book also addresses the steps that need to be taken to ensure the design is code compliant

This major textbook provides comprehensive coverage of the analytical tools required to determine the dynamic response of structures. The topics covered include: formulation of the equations of motion for single- as well as multi-degree-of-freedom discrete systems using the principles of both vector mechanics and analytical mechanics; free vibration response; determination of frequencies and mode shapes; forced vibration response to harmonic and general forcing functions; dynamic analysis of continuous systems;and wave propagation analysis.
The key assets of the book include comprehensive coverage of both the traditional and state-of-the-art numerical techniques of response analysis, such as the analysis by numerical integration of the equations of motion and analysis through frequency domain. The large number of illustrative examples and exercise problems are of great assistance in improving clarity and enhancing reader comprehension.
The text aims to benefit students and engineers in the civil, mechanical, and aerospace sectors.

During recent years the need to develop sites previously considered unsuitable has led to improvements in the adaptability of and range of both pile size and piling applications.
For example, the use of mini-piles to support lightly-loaded structures and industrial machinery is common.
Other important developments include:
1. Increased use of concrete or grout-intruded (continuous-flight auger) piles.
2. Introduction of new and improved piling hammers, vibrators, and method of determining pile response during installation.
3. Importance of noise control during pile installation.
4. Greater appreciation for the need of adequate site and ground investigations, and for improved pile selection and integrity testing procedure.
At an early stage of the project, it is important to be able to select the most appropriate pile type(s) for a given foundation.
This second edition provides a review of piles selection criteria.

The Design and Construction of sheet-piled Cofferdams
Author(s)/Editor(s): B. P. Williams - D. Waite | Size: 7.06 MB | Format:PDF | Quality:Scanner | Publisher: CIRIA - Thomas Telford | Year: 1993 | pages: 103 | ISBN: 0 86017 361 5
This report brings together from many sources information which is likely to be needed for the successful design and construction of a cofferdam up to 10 metres deep in steel sheet piling.
It points out the need for the inclusion of the requirement for such a cofferdam in the initial project planning so that the site investigation will give the information necessary for its design.
Other sections include general planning of the cofferdam, earth and water pressure calculations, various methods of analysis for the detailed design of the wall and support system, and the construction, maintenance and removal of the cofferdam. Emphasis is given lo the considerable effect that water pressures have on the loading on the cofferdam wall, and various methods are given to establish these pressures, including the use of flow nets.
There are nurmerous checklists, comprehensive references and a bibliography, together with a number of worked examples in an appendix. While computers are used extensively in design offices, an engineer must understand the basic principles of the design, and the report helps to achieve thls understanding.
