The third edition of Cynthia Young's Trigonometry brings together all the elements that have allowed instructors and learners to successfully "bridge the gap" between classroom instruction and independent homework by overcoming common learning barriers and building confidence in students' ability to do mathematics. Written in a clear, single voice that speaks to students and mirrors how instructors communicate in lecture, Young's hallmark pedagogy enables students to become independent, successful learners. Varied exercise types and modeling projects keep the learning fresh and motivating. Young continues her tradition of fostering a love for succeeding in mathematics by introducing inquiry-based learning projects in this edition, providing learners an opportunity to master the material with more freedom while reinforcing mathematical skills and intuition.
The seamless integration of Cynthia Young's Trigonometry 3rd edition with WileyPLUS, a research-based, online environment for effective teaching and learning, continues Young's vision of building student confidence in mathematics because it takes the guesswork out of studying by providing them with a clear roadmap: what to do, how to do it, and whether they did it right.

Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Reinforced Concrete Buildings Using Hierarchical Fuzzy Rule Base Modeling
Author: Solomon Tesfamariam Assistant Professor, The University of British Columbia | Size: 330 KB | Format:PDF | Quality:Original | Publisher: Earthquake Engineering Research Institute | Year: 2010 | pages: 22
A reliable building vulnerability assessment is required for developing a risk-based assessment and retrofit prioritization. Tesfamariam and Saatcioglu (2008) proposed a simple building vulnerability module where the building performance modifiers are in congruence withFEMA 154. This paper is an extension of the building vulnerability assessment that include detailed performance modifier in congruence with FEMA 310 that is represented in a heuristic based hierarchical structure. Some of the input parameters are obtained through a walk down survey and are subject to vagueness uncertainty that is modelled through fuzzy set theory. A knowledge base fuzzy rule base modeling is developed and illustrated for reinforced concrete buildings damaged in the 1 May 2003 Bingöl, Turkey earthquake.

Shigley’s Mechanical Engineering Designhas been the standard in machine design for over 50 years, and now with a 40% revision of problems in the 9th edition, instructors will have a variety of new problems to assign at all levels of difficulty. The ninth edition ofShigley’s Mechanical Engineering Designmaintains the approach that has made this book the standard in machine design for over 50 years. It combines the straightforward focus on fundamentals that instructors have come to expect, with a modern emphasis on design and new applications.

In this book, which focuses on the use of iterative methods for solving large sparse systems of linear equations, templates are introduced to meet the needs of both the traditional user and the high-performance specialist. Templates, a description of a general algorithm rather than the executable object or source code more commonly found in a conventional software library, offer whatever degree of customization the user may desire.
