The fire resistance of concrete filled tubes to Eurocode 4

info:
This publication describes a design method for concrete filled structural hollow sections in fire. The method is compatible with the guidance given in ENV 1994-1-2 and is suitable for use with hot finished sections manufactured to BS EN 10210-1:1997. Section property tables are presented for square and circular hollow sections for 60 and 90 minutes fire resistance. Design examples are also given to illustrate their use. The publication makes reference to software that uses the design method.

The Handbook of Highway Engineering

info:
Ebook Title: The Handbook of Highway Engineering
Author: T.F. Fwa
Publisher: CRC; 1 edition (September 28, 2005)
Hardcover: 888 pages
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0849319862
ISBN-13: 978-0849319860

Modern highway engineering reflects an integrated view of a road system's entire lifecycle, including any potential environmental impacts, and seeks to develop a sustainable infrastructure through careful planning and active management. This trend is not limited to developed nations, but is recognized across the globe. Edited by renowned authority T.F. Fwa, The Handbook of Highway Engineering provides a comprehensive, up-to-date treatment of all aspects of highway development and engineering. Its three sections range from consideration of socio-economic and environmental factors to design, construction, maintenance, and management. Beginning with financing, access management, environmental impacts, road safety, and noise, the book explores the expanded responsibilities of the modern highway engineer as well as the increasing trend toward privatization of project development and financing. The next section considers technical issues in highway and pavement engineering, including materials, new mechanistic-empirical design approaches, and new closed-form solutions for backcalculation as well as deflection and stress computation in multi-slab systems. Rounding out the discussion, the final section examines construction, management, performance evaluation including nondestructive testing, and a chapter devoted to highway asset management. Featuring contributions from eminent experts representing eight countries on four continents, The Handbook of Highway Engineering supplies all of the tools needed to manage the entire integrated process of modern highway development and engineering.

About The Author
T.F. Fwa is the Recipient of the ASCE 2005 Frank M. Masters Transportation Engineering Award For his innovative research on highway and airport pavements and excellence in teaching and professional activities to enhance transportation engineering. --Transportation and Development Institute of ASCE, 2005

  Cold-formed Tubular Members and Connections
Posted by: choonguan - 08-31-2009, 09:02 AM - Forum: Steel - Replies (10)

Cold-formed Tubular Members and Connections: Structural Behaviour and Design

info:
Cold formed structural members are being used more widely in routine structural design as the world steel industry moves from the production of hot-rolled section and plate to coil and strip, often with galvanised and/or painted coatings. Steel in this form is more easily delivered from the steel mill to the manufacturing plant where it is usually cold-rolled into open and closed section members.

This book not only summarizes the research performed to date on cold form tubular members and connections but also compares design rules in various standards and provides practical design examples.

Joints in Simple Construction - Volume 2: Practical Applications

info:
This particular guide covers the range of connections for use in buildings designed by the simple method, i.e braced frames with the connections carrying principally vertical shear or axial loads only.

The selected connection types are shown in pictorial index. Each type has its own area of applications and benefits. Al though the use of other types is not precluded, long term improvements in the efficiency of the industry can be achieved through the widespread adoption and limited range such as this. For the vast majority of steel structures, there is no valid reason for diversity.

info:
This form for EPC/Turnkey Projects is thus intended to be suitable, not only for EPC Contracts within a BOT or
similar type venture, but also for all the many projects, both large and smaller, particularly E & M (Electrical and
Mechanical) and other process plant projects, being carried out around the world by all types of employers, often in
a civil law environment, where the government departments or private developers wish to implement their project on
a fixed-price turnkey basis and with a strictly two party approach.
