Abstract
Presents a method of design consistent with BS 5950: Part 1 and Part 3.1 for simply supported composite beams as used in buildings. A total of 71 design tables for both uniform and point load cases are included to aid selection of steel beam sizes depending on span and loading, depth of the concrete slab and shape of the deck profile used. A worked example illustrates the design of a typical composite beam.
