Marine Hydrodynamics was specifically designed to meet the need for an ocean hydrodynamics text that is up-to-date in terms of both content and approach. The book is solidly based on fundamentals, but it also guides the student to an understanding of their engineering applications through its consideration of realistic configurations.

SEISMIC DESIGN OF JOINTED PRECAST CONCRETE WALL SYSTEMS
Author: Sri Sritharan; Sriram Aaleti | Size: 0.3 MB | Format:PDF | Quality:Original preprint | Publisher: 4th International Conference on Earthquake Engineering, Taipei, Taiwan | Year: October 2006 | pages: 10
The precast concrete wall presented in this paper utilizes two or more individual precast walls that are connected to the footings using unbonded post-tensioning at the center of each wall.

Since the publication of the second edition of this Manual in 1984, there have been significant advances in local practice with regard to slope investigation, design, construction and maintenance. As a result, more up-to-date guidance is given in subsequent GEO publications to supersede or supplement that given in this Manual (see the Addendum at the end of the Manual). For this up-to-date guidance, readers are recommended to refer to the original publications cited in the Addendum.

This Geoguide presents a recommended standard of good practice for the maintenance of man-made slopes and retaining walls, disturbed terrain features and natural terrain hazard mitigation measures. It is aimed primarily at the engineering profession, but it will be of use to other parties concerned with slopes and retaining walls maintenance.

This Geoguide presents a recommended standard of good practice for the description of Hong Kong rocks and soils for engineering purposes. This need was recognized in July 1983, when a Subcommittee of the Building Authority Working Party on Geotechnical Regulations reviewed the application in Hong Kong of the British Standard BS 5930 : 1981, Code of Practice for Site Investigations. With regard t o Section 8 of BS 5930 (Descriptions of Soils and Rocks), the Subcommittee concluded that it should not be recommended for general use in Hong Kong, because parts of the section were not relevant to local conditions or conflicted with current Hong Kong practice.

This book tackles calculus with an infinitesimal approach. The infinitesimal approach has three important advantages for the calculus-learner. First, it is closer to the intuition which originally led to calculus. Second, the central concepts of derivative and integral become easier for the student to understand and use. Third, it teaches both infinitesimal and traditional approaches, giving the student an extra tool which may become increasingly important in the future.
It is important keep in mind that the calculus was originally developed using the intuitive concept of an infinitesimal, or an infinitely small number.
While the traditional course begins with the difficult limit concept, this course/book begins with the more easily understood infinitesimals.
Enjoy it!!!!

NISTIR 6295_Curing of High-Performance Concrete: Report of the State-of-the-Art
Author: Kenneth W. Meeks; Nicholas J. Carino | Size: 1 MB | Format:PDF | Quality:Unspecified | Publisher: NIST | Year: 1999 | pages: 191
This report describes the latest information, technology, and research on the curing of high-performance concrete (HPC). The scope of the report is expanded somewhat to examine the current body of knowledge on the effects of various curing conditions on the development of the properties of concrete in general. The significance and importance of curing and various proposed definitions of high-performance concrete are discussed. Specific types of the most commonly used high-performance concrete are described, and their properties and characteristics are highlighted.
The report summarizes some of the currently accepted concepts and theories of how curing alters the physico-chemical characteristics and structure of a cement paste, since many of these are applicable to the study of high-performance concrete.
The history of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) building code requirements for curing are traced from the beginning of this century to the present time. Current curing requirements in the standards of various countries are reviewed and discussed. Some of the recent research in the United States and other countries, related either directly or indirectly to the curing of high-performance concrete, is summarized.
The report concludes with a discussion of the major areas of research needed to develop optimum curing criteria for this new class of concrete.
