Ground Penetrating Radar Theory and Applications

Ground Penetrating Radar Theory and Applications

Author: Harry M. Jol | Size: 34 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: Elsevier Science | Year: 2009 | pages: 544 | ISBN: 0444533486, 0444533486, 9780444533487

Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is a rapidly developing field that has seen tremendous progress over the past 15 years. The development of GPR spans aspects of geophysical science, technology, and a wide range of scientific and engineering applications. It is the breadth of applications that has made GPR such a valuable tool in the geophysical consulting and geotechnical engineering industries, has lead to its rapid development, and inspired new areas of research in academia. The topic of GPR has gone from not even being mentioned in geophysical texts ten years ago to being the focus of hundreds of research papers and special issues of journals dedicated to the topic. The explosion of primary literature devoted to GPR technology, theory and applications, has lead to a strong demand for an up-to-date synthesis and overview of this rapidly developing field. Because there are specifics in the utilization of GPR for different applications, a review of the current state of development of the applications along with the fundamental theory is required. This book will provide sufficient detail to allow both practitioners and newcomers to the area of GPR to use it as a handbook and primary research reference. *Review of GPR theory and applications by leaders in the field *Up-to-date information and references *effective handbook and primary research reference for both experienced practitioners and newcomers

Performance Based Inelastic Seismic Analysis of Buildings

Author: Reshama M. Karad;S. N. Tande | Size: 648 KB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: International Journal of Latest Trends in Engineering and Technology (IJLTET) | Year: 2013 | pages: 11

Occurrence of the earthquake is unpredictable, but we can adopt preventive measures to overcome problems
during earthquake. In this case, various organizations in the earthquake threatened countries have come up with
documents, which serve as guidelines for assessment of the strength, expected performance and safety of existing
buildings as well as for carrying out the necessary strengthening required.
The present paper deals with detailed discussions on non-linear static analysis methods various structural performance
levels of building. Seismic evaluation followed by information about various strengthening techniques for beam and
column. The study includes the Pushover Analysis of G+6 storey building using SAP 2000 with default and user-defined
hinges. And conclude that model with user-defined hinge properties is more successful for capturing hinging mechanism.

Analytical Case Study of Seismic Performance of Retrofit Strategies for Reinforced Co

Analytical Case Study of Seismic Performance of Retrofit Strategies for Reinforced Concrete Frames: Steel Bracing with Shear Links Versus Column Jacketing

Author: Mais M. Al-Dwaik and Nazzal S. Armouti | Size: 953 KB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: Jordan Journal of Civil Engineering, Volume 7, No. 1, 2013 | Year: 2013 | pages: 18

The effectiveness of seismic retrofitting applied to enhance seismic performance is assessed for a five-storey reinforced concrete (RC) frame building structure as built in Jordan in mid 80s. The response of the structure is evaluated using nonlinear static and dynamic analysis with synthetic ground motion records for rock base.
FEMA 356 criteria are used to evaluate the seismic performance of the case study building. Two approaches are used for seismic evaluation: global-level evaluation (drift values) and member-level evaluation using three performance levels (immediate occupancy, life safety and collapse prevention). Based on the seismic evaluation results, two possible retrofit techniques are applied to improve the seismic performance of the structure, including the addition of RC column jackets and the addition of eccentric steel bracing. SAP 2000 is used to perform linear and nonlinear dynamic analysis, whereas plastic hinge analysis is performed by Response 2000. This study shows that adding new structural elements as steel members to an existing RC building proves to be effective in enhancing performance and reducing cost than adding RC elements. Even more, the eccentric bracing proves to outperform the column jacketing drift limit, plastic hinge limit and cost effectiveness.

Behavior of high frequency modal responses in non linear seismic analysis

Author: Dhileep. M , Trivedi. A , Bose.P.R | Size: 274 KB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: NTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF CIVIL AND STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING Volume 1, No 4, 2011 | Year: 2011 | pages: 9 | ISBN: 0976 – 4399

Practical difficulties associated with the non linear direct numerical integration of the
equations of motion leads to the use of non linear static pushover analysis of structures.
Pushover analysis is getting popular due to its simplicity. High frequency modes and
nonlinear effects may play an important role in stiff and/or irregular structures. The
contribution of higher modes in pushover analysis is not fully developed. The behavior of
high frequency modal responses in non linear seismic analysis of structures is not known.
In this paper an attempt is made to study the behavior of high frequency modal responses
in non linear seismic analysis of structures.

Non-linear time history analysis of tall structure for seismic load using damper

Author: Waseem Khan , Dr. Saleem Akhtar , Aslam Hussain | Size: 264 KB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: International Journal of Scientific and Research Publications, Volume 4, Issue 4, April 2014 ISSN 2250-3153 | Year: 2014 | pages: 5

This research paper describes the results of an extensive study on the seismic behavior of a structure with damper and without damper under different earthquake acceleration frequency like EQ Altadena , EQ Lucerne, EQ Pomona, EQ Smonica and EQ Yormo. The proposed procedure is placed the dampers on the floors of the ninth-floor and five-floor of a ninth story building frame then compare the different performance of structure with damper up to Ninth-floors, damper up to Fifth-floors and without damper of ninth-story building frame using SAP2000 V15. As per IS1893 2002 non-linear time-history analyses of frame structure indicate that maximum displacement, maximum base shear and maximum acceleration effectively reduce by providing the damper in building frame from base support to fifth- floor and base support to ninth-floor comparison to as usual frame.
