  HDPE Geomembranes in Geotechnics

HDPE Geomembranes in Geotechnics

HDPE (High-density polyethylene) geomembranes are nowadays widely used for large-area liners and construction sealings in geotechnical engineering. Lining of water ponds, dams and dykes, landfill base liners and cover systems, remediation of contaminated sites, waterproof for tunnels, beneath highways and for various other civil engineering constructions are a few examples of application. The book covers all aspects of the HDPE geomembrane field: HDPE materials, geomembrane manufacture, textured geomembranes, properties, long-term performance and testing, installation and welding of geomembranes, quality assurance and control, leak detection, standards, recommendations and regulations. Various important topics are treated in detail. As part of it, the basic physical and chemical facts necessary to fully understand HDPE geomembrane properties and performance are carefully developed and explained. The book may therefore serve as a true handbook for manufacturers, designers, testing and inspection engineers and consultants and representatives of responsible administrations giving all relevant facts for appropriate design, manufacture and installation, testing and assessment of performance. Parts of it may also be used as textbook for lectures or seminars on geosynthetics and geotechnical or geoenvironmental engineering with geosynthetics in faculties of materials science and civil engineering.

Boundary Element Methods for Soil-Structure Interaction

info:
Boundary Element Methods for Soil-Structure Interaction
Publisher: Springer | ISBN: 1402013000 | edition 2003 | PDF | 440 pages | 11,75 mb

This state-of-the-art book consists of up to date contributions from leading European researchers and practitioners centred on Soil-Structure Interaction problems. The Boundary Element Method is used as an appropriate solution technique for these problems involving complex geometries, and often unbounded media. For non-linear problems the Boundary Element Method is used in conjunction with the Finite Element Method. Other topics are treated, such as Fracture Mechanics, from which advanced methods may be taken for future use in Earthquake Engineering. Overall, the book provides an authoritative guide to the literature on the subject covered and is expected to be an invaluable tool for practising engineers, students and scholars in the fields of Structural, Geotechnical and Earthquake Engineering. Engineers and students may readily locate the materials or methods available for the solution of their particular problem while scholars may discover methods previously not considered for the particular application being considered.

Design of FRP and Steel Plated RC Structures
Posted by: Flexi - 08-11-2009, 09:12 AM - Forum: Concrete - Replies (6)

Design of FRP and Steel Plated RC Structures: Retrofitting Beams and Slabs for Strength, Stiffness and Ductility

Author: Deric Oehlers (Author), Rudolph Seracino (Author) | Size: 50.09 MB | Format: PDF | Publisher: Elsevier Science; 1 edition | Year: November 23, 2004 | pages: 252 | ISBN: 0080445489, 9780080445489

There are a large and ever-increasing number of structures and buildings worldwide that are in need of refurbishment, rehabilitation and strengthening. The retrofitting of beams and slabs for this purpose is now recognized as the most cost-effective and environmentally sustainable method of carrying out this essential renovation work.

The authors of Design of FRP and Steel Plated RC Structures are both acknowledged world experts on these techniques and their book has been designed to provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of the established techniques and their applications as well as thorough coverage of newly emerging methodologies and their uses. The comparison of FRP and steel is a particular focus and the authors provide practical examples of where one material might be used in preference to another. Indeed practical, worked examples of how, when, and why specific solutions have been chosen in real-world situations are used throughout the text and provide the user with invaluable insights into the decision-making process and its technical background. Just as importantly these examples make the understanding and application of these techniques easier to understand for the student and the practitioner. The book is international in appeal, as while no reference is made to specific local codes the authors' approach always follows that of the more advanced structural codes worldwide. As such it will remain an essential resource for many years to come.

Design of FRP and Steel Plated RC Structures is an important reference for a broad range of researchers, students and practitioners including civil engineers and contractors, architects, designers and builders.
