Prestress Manual - STATE OF CALIFORNIA

info:
A large percentage of the bridges built in California are prestressed, post-tensioned type structures. As a bridge engineer working for the Divisions of Structure Construction, you should understand the construction principles relating to prestressed, post-tensioned bridge construction.
This Prestress Manual has been compiled to provide the field engineer with the necessary information and the background to perform three basic duties:
1. Check the contractor’s working drawings.
2. Provide thorough and complete inspection during the construction of the bridge with respect to the prestressing operation.
3. Understand and enforce Section 50 titled “Prestressing Concrete” of the Standard Specifications and any pertinent references.
The information included herein is to be considered as both a reference and guideline for structure representatives and assistant structure representatives. This manual should be reviewed both prior to working drawing review and during the prestressing operation. This manual should be available to the field engineer during the post-tensioning operation.

  CADOT: Trenching and Shoring Manual
Posted by: robertsas - 10-23-2009, 09:14 AM - Forum: Foundation & Geotechnics in general - Replies (1)

Trenching and Shoring Manual - STATE OF CALIFORNIA

info:
The California Department of Transportation Trenching & Shoring Manual was originally developed by the Office of Structure Construction in 1977. Its purpose was to provide technical guidance for Structure's field engineers analyzing designs of trenching & shoring systems used in the California Highway Construction program.
This 1990 updated manual edition continues to be devoted to the analysis of trench and excavation earth support (shoring) systems. Its main objectives are to inform the Engineer of California's legal requirements, and to provide updated technical guidance for analysis and review.
The Engineer should bear in mind that this manual is a book of reference and instruction to be used in respect to the administration and engineering of excavation shoring. In cases of conflict, the contract documents shall prevail. Current concepts in soil mechanics or geotechnical engineering are summarized in order to better acquaint the reader with the practical considerations and accepted application of theoretical principles. Situations or conditions which may cause difficulty are noted. A section on earth tiebacks has been added to this 1990 edition.
