Offshore Structures: Design, Construction and Maintenance
Posted by: manifertal - 06-03-2013, 04:50 AM - Forum: Archive - Replies (1)

Hi
I'm looking for this book.

Offshore Structures: Design, Construction and Maintenance

Author:Mohamed A. El-Reedy
Hardcover: 664 pages
Publisher: Gulf Professional Publishing; 1 edition (July 31, 2012)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 012385475X
ISBN-13: 978-0123854759

With most of the easy gas and oil reserves discovered and prices rebounding, companies are now drilling far offshore in extreme weather condition environments. As deepwater wells are drilled to greater depths, engineers and designers are confronted with new problems such as water depth, weather conditions, ocean currents, equipment reliability, and well accessibility. Offshore Structure Design, Construction and Maintenance covers all types of offshore structures and platforms employed worldwide.

The ultimate reference for selecting, operating and maintaining offshore structures, this book provides a road map for designing structures which will stand up even in the harshest environments. The selection of the proper type of offshore structure is discussed from a technical and economic point of view. The design procedure for the fixed offshore structure will be presented and how to review the design to reach the optimum solution. Nonlinear analysis (Push over) analysis will be presented as a new technique to design and assess the existing structure. Pile design and tubular joint with the effect of fatigue loading will be presented also from a theoretical and a practical point of view.

With this book in hand, engineers receive the most up-to-date methods for performing a structural life cycle analysis; implement maintenance plans for topsides and jackets, using non destructive testing. Under water inspection is discussed for hundreds of platforms in detail. Advanced repair methodology for scour, marine growth and damaged or deteriorating members are discussed. Risk based under water inspection techniques are covered from a practical pint of view. In addition, the book will be supported by an online modeling and simulation program with will allow designers to save time and money by verifying assumptions online.

One stop guide to offshore structure design and analysis
Easy to understand methods for structural life cycle analysis
Expert advice for designing offshore platforms for all types of environments
Save time and money by verifying designs online

Design for Flooding: Architecture, Landscape, and Urban Design for Resilience to Floo
Posted by: asim99 - 06-02-2013, 02:25 PM - Forum: General Books - No Replies

Design for Flooding: Architecture, Landscape, and Urban Design for Resilience to Flooding and Climate Change

Author: Donald Watson, Michele Adams | Size: 21 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: Wiley | Year: 2010 | pages: 336 | ISBN: 9780470475645

Architects, urban planners, and urban designers, as well as water resources engineers and landscape architects will discover that Design for Flooding presents the best practices and lessons to create buildings and communities that are more resilient in the face of severe weather, climate change, and the prospect of rising sea level.

Design for Flooding covers technical and institutional issues—along with new design and business opportunities—built upon:

Fundamentals of climate and weather, stormwater and floodplain management

Best practices of flood-resistant design and adaption to sea level rise

Multidisciplinary design that integrates sound ecological and engineering principles

Innovative design and construction to protect and improve water security

"Design for Flooding defines the need and opportunity for planners, architects, landscape architects, engineers, and conservation biologists to work together to develop the mix of inland and coastal flooding solutions required for a comprehensive response to climate change."
—From the Foreword by Daniel Williams, FAIA, author of Sustainable Design: Ecology, Architecture, and Planning

"Design for Flooding should be a major tool for the design professions, for public agencies, and for civic activists, indeed for everyone who wishes to bring a genuinely 'intelligent' design for water to their communities. It is a call to action and demonstrates that we have the knowledge, the tools, and the capability to better manage the water system on which we depend."
—From the Foreword by Carol Franklin, FASLA

A portfolio of award-winning designs illustrates practical and visionary projects to prepare for a resilient future, including:

A case study of Climate's Long-term Impacts on Metro Boston (CLIMB) analyzes four alternatives to prepare for climate change

A design charrette sponsored by The Regional Plan Association of New York illustrates creative concepts for waterfront revitalization and flood protection

Lessons from the Netherlands, Japan, and the United States indicate the effectiveness of long-term preparedness planning combined with phased mitigation and renewal projects

Examples include renovations and small buildings, showing how every project at any scale is a design opportunity to increase the sustainability and resilience of our communities, water, and ecosystem services

Traditional Construction for a Sustainable Future
Posted by: asim99 - 06-02-2013, 02:17 PM - Forum: Architecture Books - No Replies

Traditional Construction for a Sustainable Future

Author: Carole Ryan | Size: 13.4 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: Routledge | Year: 2011 | pages: 384 | ISBN: 9780415467575

Since the spread of classical design and construction amongst the upper echolons of British society in the late seventeenth century, traditional construction methods have largely fallen by the wayside. Centuries later, as the construction industry faces up to its environmental responsibilities, this book explores its rich and ancient tradition to provide tried and trusted solutions to modern day construction problems.

By way of introduction, the ancient and historical lifestyles that dictated the nature of traditional construction are explored, before focussing on its health and ecological benefits. As well as cultural background, this book includes a detailed scientific description of traditional building materials and their constituents which draws a sharp contrast with modern petrochemical-based materials. The studies of traditional buildings included reveal the sustainability of features such as natural ventilation and breathing walls, and comparisons with modern construction methods show how they could prevent 'sick building syndrome'. The author argues that maintenance for long life, by contrast with the modern concept of life-cycle costing, is at the nub of sustainability and underlies the contribution traditional building construction can make to tackling climate change.

Over 250 original photos, and over fifty bespoke diagrams illustrate the features, techniques, and characteristics of traditional construction that could make such a valuable contribution to the industry today. The inclusion of a close study of how these methods relate to British building regulations makes this book a practical guide for construction professionals, as well as an authoritative resource for students and policy-makers

New Directions in Sustainable Design

Author: Adrian Parr, Michael Zaretsky | Size: 4 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: Routledge | Year: 2010 | pages: 280 | ISBN: 9780415780377

Recently there has been a plethora of work published on the topic of sustainability, much of which is purely theoretical or technical in its approach. More often than not these books fail to introduce readers to the larger challenge of what thinking sustainably might entail.

Combining a series of well know authors in contemporary philosophy with established practitioners of sustainable design, this book develops a coherent theoretical framework for how theories of sustainability might engage with the growing practice of design. This book:

brings together new and emerging perspectives on sustainability
provides cohesive and jargon-free reading
articulates the specificity of both theory and practice, to develop a symbiotic relationship which allows the reader to understand what thinking sustainably entails
This volume describes a variety of new ways to approach sustainable design and it equips the next generation of designers with necessary conceptual tools for thinking sustainably.
