BS 6180:2011 Barriers in and about buildings - Code of Practice

Author: Technical Committee B/208, Stairs and walkways | Size: 1 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: BSI | Year: 2011 | pages: 45 | ISBN: 9780580697395

This British Standard gives recommendations and guidance for the design and construction of temporary and permanent barriers to be provided in and about buildings and places of assembly, such barriers being positioned and designed to protect persons from various hazards and to restrict or control the movement of persons or vehicles.
This British Standard applies to:
a) barriers that indicate routes;
b) barriers capable of stopping or diverting moving vehicles within areas where vehicle speed is restricted to a maximum of 16 km/h (4.44 m/s, 10 mile/h);
c) walls, glazing and other elements of buildings or structures where such elements act as protective barriers;
d) areas other than spectator areas of sports halls and buildings used for spectator sports.
This British Standard does not apply to:
1) barriers for resisting impact from vehicles travelling at speeds greater than 16 km/h, e.g. bridge parapets beyond the curtilage of a building, or highway safety barriers (see BS 6779);
2) barriers used in building operations and works of engineering construction;
3) safety barriers, with or without opening gate features, for the protection of children up to 24 months, where the safety requirement is covered by a specific safety standard, e.g. BS EN 1930;
4) permanent means of access to machinery (see BS EN ISO 14122, all parts);
5) barriers used in spectator areas of sports halls, and buildings used for spectator sports (see BS EN 13200, all parts).

  The Deep Mixing Method

The Deep Mixing Method

Author: Masaki Kitazume and Masaaki Terashi | Size: 12,7 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: CRC Press | Year: 2013 | pages: 436 | ISBN: 1138000051

[Image: 01863349787882275551.jpg]

[Image: info.png]

The Deep Mixing Method (DMM), a deep in-situ soil stabilization technique using cement and/or lime as a stabilizing agent, was developed in Japan and in the Nordic countries independently in the 1970s. Numerous research efforts have been made in these areas investigating properties of treated soil, behavior of DMM improved ground under static and dynamic conditions, design methods, and execution techniques.

Due to its wide applicability and high improvement effect, the method has become increasingly popular in many countries in Europe, Asia and in the USA. In the past three to four decades, traditional mechanical mixing has been improved to meet changing needs. New types of the technology have also been developed in the last 10 years; e.g. the high pressure injection mixing method and the method that combines mechanical mixing and high pressure injection mixing technologies. The design procedures for the DM methods were standardized across several organizations in Japan and revised several times. Information on these rapid developments will benefit those researchers and practitioners who are involved in ground improvement throughout the world.

The book presents the state of the art in Deep Mixing methods, and covers recent technologies, research activities and know-how in machinery, design, construction technology and quality control and assurance.
The Deep Mixing Method is a useful reference tool for engineers and researchers involved in DMM technology everywhere, regardless of local soil conditions and variety in applications.

PowerSurvey is a comprehensive survey data management solution. It provides surveying professionals with a complete set of survey-specific tools for both InRoads and GEOPAK. Built on MicroStation PowerDraft, the software directly processes the data from your field survey device and automatically displays the resulting graphics onscreen. You can then manipulate the data using PowerSurvey's editing, reduction, and adjustment tools.

- Data Collector Support
PowerSurvey communicates with all industry-leading data collectors. Connect your data collector directly to a personal computer, laptop, or tablet PC and use PowerSurvey to manage the survey data. PowerSurvey can also upload GEOPAK or InRoads data to the data collector for field stakeout procedures.
- Customizable Feature-Driven Processing
PowerSurvey supports extensive feature databases that detail the representation of each survey shot or feature — including symbolization, labeling, DTM control, and more. The feature database is completely user-definable and ensures standardization from the field surveyor to designer. As you process data, the software draws points and features in accordance with the feature table specified. With this powerful capability, you can generate drawings onsite —immediately after the survey has been collected — for in-field verification.
- Survey Data Adjustments
Editing and adjusting your survey data is an intuitive process when you use PowerSurvey. The software employs industry-standard routines to quickly make geometry adjustments and finalize your data. PowerSurvey offers least squares, compass rule, and transit rule adjustments. You can visually inspect the adjusted data and complete the topographic drawing in both DGN and DWG formats. The data can then be shared with the members of the project team that are using either GEOPAK or InRoads.
- Interactive Coordinate Geometry
Bentley PowerSurvey includes integrated coordinate geometry (COGO) tools. This valuable toolset enables you to perform offset commands, intersections, traverse, and many other geometry commands. Additionally, you can leverage the data generated with other modules of the InRoads and GEOPAK families of products.

Seismic Response Analysis of Large Liquid Storage Tank Considering Fluid-Structure Interaction

Author: Qing Yang, Li Hua Zhu, Jing Jing He, Zeng Feng Yan and Rui Ren | Size: 1 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: Scientific.Net | Year: 2011 | pages: 6

[Image: info.png]

To large liquid storage tank, based on the potential flow theory, considering fluid-structure interaction, the potential-based elements and the shell elements are used to simulate the liquid and the tank, respectively. Using the displacement-velocity potential finite element method formulas, the seismic response analysis method of the liquid storage tank is obtained, and is implemented based on the ADINA program. Some useful conclusions of the tanks under the earthquake loadings are obtained through two examples, which provide the reference for the seismic design theory and the seismic performance, and provide the analysis approach for the damage behavior and loss assessment of liquid storage tank.
