ACI 349.2: Guide to the Concrete Capacity Design (CCD) Method

ACI 349.2R-07 - Guide Embedment Design Examples

Guide to the Concrete Capacity
Design (CCD) Method
Embedment Design Examples - ACI 349.2R-07

This report was prepared by the members of the ACI 349 Subcommittee on Steel Embedments to provide examples of the application of ACI 349 to the design of steel embedments. The first edition of this report, published in 1997, was based on ACI 349-97 that used the 45-degree cone breakout model for determining the concrete breakout strength. The 2001 edition of the Code* marked a major departure from the previous editions with the adoption of the concrete capacity design (CCD) method. The model for the concrete breakout strength used in the CCD method is a breakout prism having an angle of approximately 35 degrees. In addition, the concrete breakout strength for a single anchor away from the edge is proportional to the embedment depth raised to the power of 1.5 and not embedment depth squared, as used in the previous versions of the Code. These and other changes in the Code result in designs that are somewhat different than those obtained using previous editions of the Code. The examples used in this report are based on the ACI 349-06, Appendix D, and illustrate how the CCD method is applied. In previous editions of ACI 349, the anchorage design was given in Appendix B. Because ACI 349 is a dependent code, the chapters and Appendixes in ACI 349 are updated to be consistent with ACI 318.

New edition covers the latest practices, regulations, and alternative disinfectants

Since the publication of the Fourth Edition of White's Handbook of Chlorination and Alternative Disinfectants more than ten years ago, the water industry has made substantial advances in their understanding and application of chlorine, hypochlorite, and alternative disinfectants for water and wastewater treatment. This Fifth Edition, with its extensive updates and revisions, reflects the current state of the science as well as the latest practices.

  Easy CurveFit v4.0
Posted by: Gabemzaman - 02-11-2010, 10:07 PM - Forum: Non Engineering Software - Replies (2)

Easy CurveFit v4.0

Easy CurveFit is a small application designed to allow you to easily plot a curve through any graph of results that you enter into the application.

When first opened, Easy CurveFit is a complete mystery. It's totally unclear what to do with it, as the interface is very abstract and unresponsive. Hovering doesn't give you any clues, and right clicking elicits no response. There is a manual included however, but unfortunately it's very brief and written in bad English that makes little sense!

Basically, to use Easy CurveFit, you have to create a .txt file with your numerical results entered. Then this can be opened, and the points plotted on a graph. You can then, by clicking the various algebraic buttons, create a curve that bets fits your results.

This curve image can be saved, and you can zoom in and out too. While that curve drawing works fine, it's difficult to see what's special about it. While the curve results are good, it's a very clunky interface to use - it would be much improved if you could manually enter results to be plotted, instead of doing so in a text editor first. There are also a distinct lack of options.

If you want to create best fit curves, and save or print your results, Easy CurveFit does the job, but it's not easy to use or well explained at all.

  Visual Hydrology

Visual Hydrology

One approach to the introduction of computational material to the classroom is to supplement a textbook with modern computer codes. Unfortunately most codes are expensive, designed for commercial use, without source code and may require special software. Visual Hydrology provides a cheaper and simpler alternative, supplying computational exercises that can be fully assimilated by students, and allowing them to activate, understand and reproduce modern computer code.

Visual Hydrology aims to:

•explain the structure of modern object-oriented computer code
•provide the source code for worked examples
•numerically check the worked examples used in text
•show how worked examples can be used with alternative data
•describe and reference the underlying theory
•provide additional exercises with each worked example
•use Microsoft Excel software alone

Requiring only a basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, this Primer teaches the use of modern and readily-available computer code for engineering computation. Visual Hydrology demonstrates codes for common and practical examples used in hydrological engineering, and will be a valuable resource to students, research workers and consulting engineers in the water-related sector.

Mechanics of Elastic Composites
Modern Mathematics and Mechanics

Mechanics of Elastic Composites (Modern Mathematics and Mechanics)
Chapman & Hall | September 15, 2003 | ISBN-10: 1584884428 | 682 pages | 6.3 mb

Composite materials play a fundamental role in many modern engineering applications and have been the focus of much research and development in recent years. Mechanics of Elastic Composites is a comprehensive, reader-friendly treatment of the theory that provides the foundation for these materials. Beginning with an introductory review of tensor calculus and the fundamentals of linear elastostatics, the authors explore the advanced, three-dimensional theory of elastic composites, from the classical aspects of laminates to recently developed results and methods related to the buckling of fiber reinforced composite strips, stability analysis of composite laminates, and brittle fracture mechanics.
