BS 6079 Project Management

BS 6079-1:2002 Project management. Guide to project management
Project management - Part 1: Guide to project management
Executive summary
Guidance on the planning and execution of projects and the application of project management techniques.

Abstract
This British Standard, a part of the BS 6079 series, provides guidance on the planning and execution of projects and the application of project management techniques. It has broad relevance to projects in many industries and the public sector, both at home and abroad. This standard aims primarily to provide guidance for relative newcomers to project management and to act as an aide-mémoire for more experienced practitioners and those who interact with project management teams.

This standard provides guidance for: general managers; project managers; project support staff; educators and trainers.

The principles and procedures outlined are relevant to all sizes of organization, although they may not cover all aspects of every conceivable type and size of project.

Application of these principles and procedures in different industries may have unique and particular emphases and priorities.

History and related standards
This British Standard supersedes BS 6079-1:2000 which is withdrawn.

This standard is used in conjunction with BS 6079–2.

Dear friends, there is a newer issue of this standard - BS 6079-1:2010. If someone of you have it, please share it.

BS 6079-2:2000 Project management. Vocabulary
Project management - Part 2: Vocabulary
Executive summary
Terms used in project management and network planning.

Abstract
This British Standard, a part of the BS 6079 series, defines the terms used in project management and network planning. It has a broad relevance to projects in many industries, commerce and the public sector.

The aim of this standard is to standardize the terminology and symbols used in project management to facilitate communication and the spread of knowledge of the subject.

The changes made to this standard from the previous edition (BS 4335:1997) are in support of the other parts of BS 6079 which have been extended the requirements for standardized terminology from the basic use in project network techniques to project management and its specialized use of other management techniques. Wherever possible the definitions given in BS 4335:1997 have been retained, although some have been deleted because they are no longer in use and others have been revised to reflect current usage or to improve clarity.

BS 6079-3:2000 Project management. Guide to the management of business related project risk
Executive summary
Guidance on the identification and control of business related risks encountered when undertaking projects.

Abstract
This British Standard, a part of the BS 6079 series, provides guidance on the identification and control of business related risks encountered when undertaking projects. It is applicable to a wide spectrum of project organizations operating in the industrial, commercial and public or voluntary sectors. It is written for project sponsors and project managers, either or both of whom are almost always responsible to higher levels of authority for one or more projects of various types and sizes.

It is intended that its application will be proportional to the circumstances and needs of the particular organization.

This standard offers generic guidance only and it is not suitable for certification or contractual purposes. It is not intended as a substitute for specific standards that address risk assessment in distinct applications, such as health and safety, or areas of technological risk.

The guidance in this standard highlights the importance of stakeholder analysis and suggests that it is integrated into the risk management process.

This Published Document is a guide to project management in the construction industry in its broadest sense. It deals with the construction process from inception through to handover of the completed facility to the owner, occupier or operator. It is also applicable to projects involving the maintenance, repair, refurbishment, decommissioning and demolition of existing facilities. Its guidance is relevant to both domestic and international projects and to all project participants including clients, professional consultants and designers, and contracting organizations including managing contractors, main contractors, specialist works contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. The guidance is equally applicable to the management of the many supporting projects or subprojects, commonly termed contracts and subcontracts, undertaken by technical specialists, contractors, subcontractors or suppliers, and to the management of the ultimate client’s project, i.e. the project promoted by the industry’s customer.
