Abstract:

Full-scale data on the dynamic properties of buildings in Japan have been collected and analyzed. The data on 123 steel structure buildings and 66 reinforced concrete structure buildings have been collected on a data base. Almost all data base were evaluated from measurements at a low vibration amplitude. Analyses of the data have been conducted for each structure type in order to grasp statistically the characteristics of the damping ratios and the natural frequencies. The natural frequencies show a clear dependence on building height. On the other hand, the damping ratios scatter under the influence of various factors, for example, building height, foundation type, building usage, vibration amplitude, and vibration test or damping evaluation method. The differences resulting from each factor have been shown from fundamental analyses.
