GUIDELINES FOR GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION
UAE - ABU DHABI MUNICIPALITY ROAD DEPARTMENT
UAE - ABU DHABI MUNICIPALITY ROAD DEPARTMENT
This document is a compilation of recommended good practices for geotechnical investigation.
The document delineates the sequential stages that a normal geotechnical investigation program requires and describes the purpose and scope of work for each of those steps. Descriptions of technical requirements for site works, laboratory works, and reporting are covered in general.
Indexes of specific, internationally accepted standards1 pertinent to subsurface investigation are included in the appendices. This document is intended as a reference tool. The requirements and practices described are
general guidelines and are to be viewed as such. The document is not intended to be definitive in its scope or to provide detailed guidance on every type of subsurface investigation in every type of condition. Prevailing ground conditions and details of a project at hand will finally dictate actual requirements (see Section 3.3.2.6).
The contents of this document are based on good engineering practice and internationally accepted standards, and the Abu Dhabi Municipality Road Department (herein referred to as the Department) expects these practices and
standards, as applicable, to be followed as a matter of course in geotechnical investigations.
These should be considered minimum standards.
Specifications that are more detailed or standards that are more appropriate may be required, depending on a specific project’s needs.
