SP-004: (8TH) Formwork for Concrete + Auto Reshore Excel Spreadsheet

Author(s)/Editor(s): David W. Johnston | Size: 112 MB| Format: PDF| Quality: Original preprint| Year: 2014| pages: 512 | ISBN: 9780870319129

The 8th Edition, authored by David W. Johnston, North Carolina State University, is a major revision of the document to bring it up-to-date with “Guide to Formwork for Concrete (ACI 347R-14).” Revisions include referencing current standards and practices, removing outdated or irrelevant material, adding content on new developments in formwork technology and practice, and updating the look and layout of the document.

This edition considers the updated lateral pressure and other provisions now provided by ACI 347R-14. Expanded coverage is provided in SP-4 for wind loads on formwork specialized from ASCE/SEI 7-10 as modified by ASCE/SEI 37-14. The design of formwork has been divided into two chapters, one focusing on bending, shear, and deflection of wall, slab, and column formwork members, and a second focusing on shoring and bracing members. Bridge formwork considerations have been moved into a separate chapter. A new chapter summarizing the recommendations of ACI 347.3R-13, “Guide to Formed Concrete Surfaces,” has been added.

Benefits of the 8th Edition include:

- An ACI best-selling document

- Allowable strength design and load and resistance factor design examples

- Updated to current standards

- Chapter problems for classroom study

- 500 modern color photographs

- 150 color illustrations

- Includes ACI 347R-14

Keywords:architectural concrete; bridge construction; building construction, concrete construction; construction; construction loads; construction materials; falsework; forms; formwork; formed surfaces, mass concrete; precast concrete; prestressed concrete; quality control; reinforced concrete; reshoring; shoring; slipform construction; tunnels

SP-004: (8th) Auto Reshore Excel Spreadsheet

This series of Excel spreadsheet programs allows the user to perform the shoring and reshoring analysis of multi-story concrete buildings during construction. The programs provide both numerical results and an illustration of the step-by-step construction process. The programs are based on the typical assumptions used in ACI SP-4 Formwork for Concrete, 8th ed., and in ACI 347.2R-05 Guide for Shoring/Reshoring of Concrete Multistory Buildings.

- All previously cast slabs are identical and have equal stiffness;

- Ground level or other grade base support is rigid;

- Shores and reshores are spaced closely enough to treat their reactions as a distributed load;

- Shores and reshores are infinitely stiff relative to the slabs; and

- Reshores are installed snug tight without initially carrying any load.

The user must check all results prior to any application.The results are a function of the analysis assumptions and actual conditions can vary. For example, some studies, as noted in ACI 347.2R, have indicated that compressible shores and reshores cause greater load to be supported by the uppermost, lowest-strength, hardened slab than is indicated by an analysis based of infinite shore/reshore stiffness. Revised versions of the spreadsheet may be issued periodically.

Keywords: (Suggested New) architectural concrete; bridge construction; building construction, concrete construction; construction; construction loads; construction materials; falsework; forms; formwork; formed surfaces, mass concrete; precast concrete; prestressed concrete; quality control; reinforced concrete; reshoring; shoring; slipform construction; tunnels
