I received the following email from 4Shared today and thought it prudent to pass onto the forum since several downloads are found on that site. While it doesn't appear that 4shared is going to disappear completely, it does appear to me that they wish for us to update our files to a new server.

Dear 4shared user,
In the coming weeks, we're going to retire 4shared accounts support in 4Sync applications. This step is important to make 4Sync even more reliable and easy to use.

After the 24th of December 2012 you won't be able to use 4Sync with your 4shared account. We're encouraging existing 4shared users to create a new 4Sync account and transfer files.

New Year is coming, and usually it means changes. Year 2012 was a busy year for us at 4Sync. Many things changed for desktop application, and for mobile 4Sync. Now we want to focus on improving user experience, and want to make things simpler. In the coming weeks we will stop the ability to log in to 4Sync applications with 4shared accounts. This step is important for us to make 4Sync even more reliable and easy solution for keeping all your files in sync.

After December 24th, 2012 you won’t be able to use 4Sync with your 4shared account, but all your files will remain at 4shared. We are encouraging all current 4shared users to create a new 4Sync account and transfer all their files to this account.

After December 24th, 2012 you can create a new 4Sync account with the same email as you use at 4shared. Alternatively 4shared Desktop application may be used to manage your files at 4shared.
