Cut-and-Cover Metro StructuresGeo-Structural Design: An Integrated Approach

Author(s)/Editor(s): Krishan Kaul | Size: 19 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Unspecified | Publisher: Taylor and Francis | Year: 2010 | pages: 672 | ISBN: 9780415469074

Because of their complexity and scale, metro structures capture all the essential aspects of a cut-and-cover structure, and so are given primary focus in this book. The design of a metro construction is outlined coherently and in detail; and the reader is shown how to apply this design process equally well to other, relatively simple, cut-and-cover structures.

Geotechnical and structural engineering principles are combined with both design and construction practice to make this book a unique guide for engineers.

Cut-and-Cover Metro Structures - Geo-structural Design - An integrated Approach

Author(s)/Editor(s): Krishan Kaul | Size: 18.50 MB | Format: PDF | Quality: Original preprint | Publisher: Spon Press - Taylor & Francis | Year: 2010 | pages: 705 | ISBN: 0203894839

This book is an expert and comprehensive guide to the practical design of cut-andcover structures in general and metro structures in particular. It leads the reader clearly and logically from the initial planning and the choice of the structural form through the design process, from concept, assessment of loads to be supported, via specific problems such as seismic, heave, flotation, etc., to the structural analysis.
Furthermore, the influence of the method and sequence of construction on the design process of these structures is palpable all the way through, and the need for it to be taken into account is rightly emphasized.
The case history illustrations and the quality of the worked examples further materially enhance the usefulness of the book in guiding its users to a realistic and economical solution to the design problems.
I welcome this book and commend it to the engineering profession as an informed guide to the practical design of these major underground structures and believe it will prove to be an invaluable resource for the designers.
