About Active & inactive User

I strongly oppose the idea of differentiating between Active and Inactive members. Some of the reasons are as follows:
1) In every forum, there are always a very small percentage of members who are active contributors. The rest are there to learn and benefit.
2) Not evry member in every country/ city has the luxury of having the type of internet connection which is necessary for uploading.
3) Not evry member has the facility of scanning, etc.
4) There are countries and cities where due to power shortage, there is scheduled or unscheduled load-shedding (power-off) every 3 hours or so. It is very difficult to upload a long file from such locations.
5) There are more than 25000 members in this forum. Why would anyone want that all the 25000 members become contributors? This forum is loved for quality, not quantity.
6) If all of the 25000 members donate one dollar per annum, one can collect 25000 dollars to expend on the maintenance of this site. Why not apply this as annual fee?
7) Please remember that spreading knowledge and educating engineers in every part of the world is in itself a great reward for the contributors.

Thanks for read me Grunf, but i'm talking about internet technical knowledge, even so, some of us are using a bad internet connection, so is very hard to put some new links in free hosting sites.
What i mean is you can force everybody to said say something like "good work" or something like that in order to be maintained here, every forum has leechers, but, in my opinion, delete them is radical.

1) initially forums were made for the people to mingle and to share their experience to keep the forum alive all together... TOGETHER is the key word

2) If you can download 100MB, I believe you can upload 2 good MB?! I'm I right? There are a lot of good publications coded in only few MBs. I believe you are sending e-mails with more then 2MB...

3) I don't have a scaner - so I try to find publications using google - look at my post count in E-Book section

4) If you can spend few hours downloading large data or just spend few hours reading all kind of stuff trough Internet and electricity isn't a problem - why is the problem to compose a good post - it needs only 5 min to compose a good post... (I believe you composed your 7 staged post in 10 min - you could write something else, e.g. you could help to someone in the Problem section)

5) Quality is the word we are talking about this few weeks...

6) Because of the problem that this site share a million of ilegal stuff - it's a bit of problem to take someones money for somethig that's ilegal... It is OK if someone can make a donation to Admin, but Admin have had full trust to that person and vice versa..

7) That's the point - sharing knowledge!! We strive to share knowledge and to make discussions here. What would be if CivilEA has 5 million members and only 6 of them are making discussions about everything - maybe they do not know everything, maybe they need help but they not getting any, maybe they (those 6 members) are wrong in all the points they make, but all other members wont say a thing? Is this an essence of the forum?

I´d like to suggest that you read my post #39!
Good point about minimum knowledge necessary to press THANKS Button! Have you considered that you can press THANKS for any post that you consider that COULD be useful in your professional career? Or that you have the perception that demands a great effort for the member to post it (as a member who created a medicine for a program)? Or represents a brand new version or release of an program?
This exercise will improve your personal end professional skills, and, believe me, will be useful out of this forum for you!

Indeed,we shared less knowledge here.i agree with the administrator's opinion everyone should spend more time on sharing his knowledge or problems,not just find cracks or ebooks.i'll give some of my opinions:
1.banning new members or kicking out the inactive members is not helpful to the developement of our forum.
2.some limitations will lead everyone make more contribution to the forum,sharing the knowledge ,experience, discussing, finding more effective solutions,etc. members couldnt make the forum a source for downloading.
3.some of the members maybe busy in work.this is one of the reason there are many more inactive members.i advise that one topic per week can be given, let us discuss. i think more people will take part in.
4.the maxium characteristic of the forum is the members are from all over the world,so the resource is more plentiful than any other site. but i recognised we have some problems in discussion. for example, i come from china , i use the chinese codes,lacking in applying the codes of the US or the Europe, so i dont know how to take part in.

Sorry my dear friend, but I think I completely disagree with you. A member of the Forum since February 2009 put the first post after the Admin has been notified to remove inactive users, I think it´s not the best detail possible. Do not have time to participate? Sorry but I cannot believe it. I have to meet my engineering office at least 10 hours a day, meet my family and students too, and I still spend a few minutes a day to my forum (sorry Admin, but I also feel that this Forum is part of me). As me you can find BennyP, Grunf, Dell Brett Roberts, Kamran, Concreteok, and others engineering professionals with full agendas but are efforts to engage and maintain the Forum as everyone can see, day after day.
Some of us away for periods of time? if we do, for reasons of health, work, or on vacation, but we make every effort to maintain contact. A comment, a question, a message ... Is it too much ask?
I see positively that members who have never been active now make the effort to stay in the Forum. Leoncito is a clear example in the last days. He is working hard to stay inside. Now, if you want to stay in the Forum, who must make the effort? Admin? Admin must fight for everything to flow smoothly for those who work daily in “our” Forum and for those who just enjoy it? It is the other effort that should keep them inside or is your own efforts? You want to stay inside without contributing anything? without spending anything? Sorry but the argument line is have not necessary substance and no weight (it's my way of thinking)
This space was created for engineers concerned to grow intellectually and professionally, to share information and experiences, not to download the latest structural calculation software to sell it to students or other engineers or to use it until you get one better from free, through the efforts of others, as Timosi, who has managed to create patches to evaluate some engineering packages, without receiving a penny, only our infinite gratitude.
You want to stay in the forum? participate, contribute… There´s no other way

At least I do not post spam or junk to be an active user, I imagine that the engineer who strongly criticizes my situation did not start his career as a specialist or as a master...
I just want to propose another alternative to the elimination of inactive users
I am not speaking on my own but for the many that we benefit from the information on this excellent site to grow as an engineer

THE BEST METHOD IS TO MAKE EVERY MEMBER PAYABLE, SOME FEE FOR USING YHE FORUM SHOULD BE CHARGED SO THAT GOOD WORK DONE BY SOME DEDICATED CIVIL ENGINEERS WHO WANT THE KNOWLEDGE TO FLOURISH IS NOT TAKEN FOR GRANTED BY OTHERS.MY SUGGESTION IS THAT FOR
1.FOR ENTRY INTO FORUM $200 should be the fee .
OR THE BEST METHOD IS-
ALL INACTIVE USER'S WHO DONOT CONTRIBUTE SHOULD BE CHARGED $200 AS A PANELTY FEE.
THIS IS THE BEST FORUM IN THE WHOLE WORLD , CIVILEA SHOULD LIVE LONG
I HAVE VERY HIGH REGARD'S FOR ADMIN AND PEOPLE WHO HELP THIS FORUM TO FLORISH.

As you know this is a free forum that you can find any engineering material that you need fast & easy.
I prepare this site for all world engineers with my personal costs. I paid all costs myself & I`m agree.
All Moderators works here free, they works with love. they spend a lot of time here without any new income, Do you know a engineer (like our moderators) how much his income for 1 hours?

dear users, we except you share your knowledge here, not afraid about anythings.
you said about your English, i said you : "MY ENGLISH IS VERY BAD" but i manage this forum up to know. in this way we can improve our English too.

you said about you don`t have anythings to share or said your knowledge is low. i said you we are here to increase our knowledge all of you are a expert or beginner engineer or a student but we have base knowledge of civil engineering. It isn`t acceptable for me a user not have anythings to share, some user register here for more than 1 years & have no posts here. it is acceptable?

it is acceptable that only 500 user have more than 10 post (usefull & un-usefull post), but we have totally more than 25,000 user? it is acceptable?

you can share your experiment here, however it isn`t true but it is important that others discuss about it. it is not hard.
we are from all countries, you can explain about your city project, you can prepare report & photo about projects,
there are many ways to participate here ....
we don`t like to limited you, i like to all user access to all sections even VIP sections, but it is not fair,

as your request limitations of inactive user remain with existing limitations. actually we permit all user to have access all forum.
but we have limitations in our host.

but me & other moderators not bear any rules break. if any user brake our rules (spaming, thanks post, usefulness posts, posting not base on post generators, ...) we`ll limited him/her more & more.

finally i thanks moderators & all active user again for their effort for sharing knowledge here.

I hope we have more powerful place for civil Engineers.
